GLORY COMMUNITY CHURCH HOSTS SENIORS WORKSHOP, APPRECIATION AND BACK-TO-SCHOOL CELEBRATION IN LINCOLN, NIAGARA REGION.

Lincoln, Ontario - September 1, 2026

Glory Community Church hosted its In-Person Seniors Workshop & Appreciation and Back-to-School Celebration on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at Charles Daley Park, next to Lake Ontario in Lincoln, Ontario.

The event brought together seniors, older adults, youth, families and community members for an afternoon of learning, encouragement, fellowship and community connection. It was designed to provide practical information to seniors and older adults while also encouraging young people and families as they prepared for the new school year.

A major focus of the event was a practical workshop for seniors and older adults on adjusting to life in Canada and understanding the different government, financial, health and community supports that may be available to them.

Facilitators covered a wide range of federal and provincial programs, including Old Age Security (OAS), which provides a monthly pension to eligible seniors beginning at age 65 and does not require a person to have worked in Canada, and the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS), which provides additional tax-free monthly support to low-income seniors receiving OAS.

Participants also learned about Ontario GAINS, a provincial benefit for low-income seniors that is paid in addition to OAS and GIS. For the 2026–27 benefit year, the maximum benefit is $92 per month for a single senior and $184 per month for a senior couple, depending on income.

Other supports discussed included the Ontario Senior Homeowners’ Property Tax Grant, which may provide eligible senior homeowners with up to $500 annually toward property taxes, as well as property-tax deferral options that may be available to qualifying low-income senior homeowners.

The workshop also highlighted the Ontario Trillium Benefit, the Ontario Electricity Support Program, and the Low-Income Energy Assistance Program, which may help eligible low- and moderate-income households manage energy and household costs.

Facilitators also discussed the Ontario Seniors Care at Home Tax Credit, which can help eligible seniors with certain medical and aging-at-home expenses, as well as the Allowance and Allowance for the Survivor for eligible low-income individuals between the ages of 60 and 64 in specific circumstances.

Throughout the session, participants were encouraged to confirm eligibility directly with the appropriate government programs and service providers, as access to benefits can depend on age, income, residency, marital status and other personal circumstances.

The event also included information on health, aging-at-home and community support options for seniors in the Niagara Region.

Participants learned about the types of services that may be available to older adults experiencing concerns such as memory loss, dementia, depression, falls, medication-related issues and other age-related health challenges. The discussion also covered home and community care supports that can help seniors remain safely and independently in their homes for as long as possible.

Examples of support discussed included nursing services, personal support, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech-language therapy, social work, nutrition support, assistive equipment and long-term-care planning. Participants were also encouraged to seek appropriate medical and community-based support when dealing with dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, mild cognitive impairment or caregiver-related challenges.

Alongside the seniors’ workshop, the Back-to-School Celebration created an opportunity to encourage students and families as they prepared for the new academic year.

The afternoon included encouragement and prayer for students, family-friendly activities, fellowship and opportunities for community members to connect in a warm and welcoming environment. The event also recognized the important role that seniors and older adults continue to play in strengthening families and communities.

Through events such as this, Glory Community Church continues to combine spiritual support with practical community outreach by creating spaces where people can access useful information, build relationships and feel more connected to the community around them.

This event was made possible in part through the generous support of the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program. This support is helping Glory Community Church create more opportunities for seniors and older adults to access practical information, strengthen social connections and remain actively engaged in community life.

Glory Community Church Launches New Horizons for Seniors Program with Seniors Celebration and Unveils Glory Seniors Connection Forum

May 31, 2026 - St. Catharines, Niagara Falls, ON

Glory Community Church proudly launched its New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP) with a vibrant Seniors Celebration and Recognition Event, bringing together Older Adults (55+) and Seniors (65+) from across the community for a day of appreciation, fellowship, inspiration, and community connection.

Funded in part by Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) through the New Horizons for Seniors Program, the event marked the official commencement of a community initiative designed to promote active aging, social inclusion, volunteerism, lifelong learning, and healthy, independent living among older Canadians.

The celebration welcomed older adults, seniors, church leaders, volunteers, caregivers, families, and community partners to recognize the invaluable contributions that older generations continue to make within families, churches, workplaces, and society.
The event featured an uplifting worship service followed by a message of hope, faith, and encouragement that emphasized the dignity, wisdom, and lasting legacy of older adults and seniors. Participants were encouraged to remain actively engaged in community life while continuing to share their experiences, talents, and leadership with future generations.

A special recognition ceremony honoured the lifelong service and contributions of participating older adults and seniors. As a token of appreciation, every registered participant received a $50 Walmart gift card, reflecting the church's gratitude for their commitment, resilience, and positive impact within the community.

Guests also enjoyed a delicious lunch served in a warm and welcoming atmosphere, creating opportunities for fellowship, meaningful conversations, new friendships, and stronger social connections. The event intentionally fostered an inclusive environment where participants could interact, share experiences, reduce social isolation, and strengthen their sense of belonging.

A significant milestone of the celebration was the official unveiling of Glory Seniors Connection Forum, a new community initiative established under the New Horizons for Seniors Program. The forum will serve as a safe, welcoming, and inclusive space where Older Adults (55+) and Seniors (65+) can regularly connect, learn, support one another, and participate in activities that promote healthy aging and lifelong engagement. Participants registered as founding members during the launch, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the church's seniors ministry.

The event also officially initiated implementation of the NHSP project through the recruitment of community volunteers who will play an important role in planning and delivering upcoming activities. Volunteers will help organize educational workshops, wellness initiatives, digital literacy training, social gatherings, intergenerational engagement, community outreach, and recreational programs throughout the project period.

New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP) is a federal grants and contributions program administered by Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC). The program supports projects that empower older adults and seniors to share their knowledge, skills, and experience while improving their health, well-being, and participation in community life.

The NHSP recognizes that older adults are valuable contributors to Canadian society and encourages communities to create opportunities that reduce isolation, strengthen inclusion, and support healthy aging.

Through this funding, Glory Community Church is delivering a range of initiatives that enhance the quality of life of Older Adults (55+) and Seniors (65+) by promoting active participation, lifelong learning, volunteerism, and social connectedness.

Glory Community Church NHSP project is designed to:

1. Promote active aging, healthy lifestyles, and overall well-being among Older Adults (55+) and Seniors (65+).
2. Reduce loneliness and social isolation by creating regular opportunities for fellowship, peer support, and meaningful community engagement.
3. Establish and strengthen the Glory Seniors Connection Forum as an ongoing community hub for connection, education, recreation, and mutual support.
4. Recruit, train, and engage volunteers to support seniors' programming and foster intergenerational collaboration.
5. Improve digital literacy and cybersecurity awareness to help older adults confidently and safely use technology.
6. Enhance financial literacy by providing education on budgeting, online banking, fraud prevention, and financial planning.
7. Increase awareness of government services and community resources available to older adults and seniors.
8. Promote physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, and social wellness through educational workshops and community activities.
9. Encourage leadership, volunteerism, mentorship, and lifelong learning among older adults and seniors.
10. Build stronger partnerships with community organizations to improve access to programs and services that support healthy and independent living.

Throughout the project, participants will have opportunities to attend educational workshops, digital literacy and cybersecurity sessions, financial wellness seminars, health and wellness presentations, social and recreational activities, newcomer support sessions, volunteer opportunities, and other community-building initiatives tailored to the interests and needs of older adults and seniors.

Speaking during the launch, Pastor Eunice Magira-Hawkins reaffirmed Glory Community Church's commitment to ensuring that older adults and seniors remain respected, connected, valued, and actively engaged members of the community.

The successful launch marks the beginning of an exciting journey that will continue throughout the project, providing meaningful opportunities for learning, friendship, wellness, volunteerism, and community participation for Older Adults (55+) and Seniors (65+) across Niagara Falls Region, Hamilton and Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

As part of its ongoing commitment to empowering Older Adults (55+) and Seniors (65+) through education and lifelong learning, Glory Community Church is pleased to announce the first educational webinar under the New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP).

The interactive webinar is designed to equip older adults and seniors with the knowledge and confidence needed to safely navigate today's increasingly digital world. As technology continues to play an essential role in communication, banking, healthcare, government services, and everyday life, the session will provide practical guidance to help participants become more confident and secure online.

Participants will learn how to:
- Understand basic digital technology and common digital tools.
- Safely use smartphones, tablets, and computers for everyday activities.
- Recognize common cyber scams, phishing attempts, fraud, and online threats targeting older adults.
- Protect personal, financial, and confidential information while using the internet.
- Build confidence in using digital technology to stay connected with family, friends, healthcare providers, and community services.

The webinar supports the objectives of the New Horizons for Seniors Program by promoting digital inclusion, enhancing independence, reducing barriers to technology, and helping older adults confidently access essential online services. It also contributes to reducing social isolation by enabling participants to communicate more effectively with loved ones and participate in virtual learning and community activities.

The session is open to all Older Adults (55+) and Seniors (65+), regardless of their level of digital experience. Whether participants are just beginning to use technology or wish to strengthen their online safety skills, the webinar will provide practical, easy-to-understand information in a supportive and welcoming learning environment.

Dear Brethren,

It is a good time again to remember that we have not just entered a new year but a new decade.

How wonderful to know that our God has made us remnants for such a time as this. As we enjoy and thank God for the new year let us ask ourselves: What is one good reason that the Lord had mercy on me and has successfully crossed me over to 2020?

In this new year and decade let the fear of the Lord lead us to wisdom and His Knowledge to be our understanding. (Proverbs 9:10)
We are not here for nothing. We are here because it is the will of God.
We are here because:
We are victorious through Christ Who gives us strength
We are healed in Jesus Name
Salvation is our portion in Jesus Name
We will walk and not be weary
We are the watchmen of the Kingdom for 2020
We are the gatekeepers for His kingdom

We are here to announce to the enemy that 2020 is our year of harvest and restoration.
2020 is the year our Lord will open His armory and bring out the weapons of His indignation as promised in the book of Jeremiah 50 as he fights our battles.

May the Lord Bless you this year and this decade so you may declare the goodness of the Lord in the new decade. We have crossed over so the grasshopper mentality is not our portion. We will be the Joshuas and Calebs in this decade in Jesus name.
