It was a joy to represent Elm Street United Church at the Merritton Labour Day Parade today! ☀️

We enjoyed handing out candy and snacks, seeing so many familiar faces, and joining in the spirit of this wonderful community tradition.

Thank you to everyone who walked with us, and to the Merritton Lions Club for bringing our community together.

We’re grateful to be part of Merritton and its long history of neighbours celebrating together.

Happy Labour Day everyone! ❤️

Loving God,
On this Labour Day, we give thanks for all who work to provide the things we need to live, and for the many ways that our labour contributes to the life of our communities and our world.

We give thanks for the witness of organized labour and unions, who remind us of the power of solidarity and our shared responsibility to safeguard fair wages, safe working conditions, and dignity for every worker.

Bless workers with strength, safety and dignity. Bless employers and leaders with wisdom, fairness, and care. May all who have power use it to create workplaces and communities where everyone can flourish.

May our shared labour, and our commitment to justice, help bring about your vision of peace, dignity, and abundant life for all.

And remind us, O God, that in you, our labour is not in vain.

Amen

All creatures great and small! 🐾

Join us on Sunday, September 6 at 11:00 a.m. for a special Blessing of the Animals as we give thanks for the beloved animal companions who bring so much joy, comfort, and love into our lives.

Bring your furry, feathered, or scaly friend along — or, if it’s easier, bring a photo, collar, favourite toy, or another symbol of an animal you love.

Everyone is welcome, whether you bring a pet or simply come to enjoy the gathering. Come meet some new friends — two-legged, four-legged, and otherwise!

Sunday, September 6 | 11:00 a.m.

In case you missed it…

1️⃣ Large bins will be available at the Seymour-Hannah Sports and Entertainment Centre and Bill Burgoyne Arena Monday, August 10 to Saturday, August 15 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for St. Catharines residents who need to dispose of flood-related waste. Proof of residency will be required.

Household hazardous waste is not accepted at the City's large bins.

2️⃣ Niagara Region's enhanced city-wide waste collection continues August 10-14. Curbside garbage limits are lifted for flood-related waste and garbage can be placed at the curb even if it's not your regular garbage collection week.

Help keep Niagara Region's waste collection workers safe: use extra care when disposing of flood-waste that may contain nails, screws, broken glass, sharp edges or other hazards.

Reminder: enhanced city-wide garbage collection is limited to flood-related waste. There's a lot to pick up and this helps crews move through neighbourhoods more quickly.

And speaking of the parking lot, here's a little reminder from Pastor Kassandra. 😉
