Let’s bring Saint Joseph into our homes! Given the title “Terror of Demons” makes Saint Joseph the penultimate (that is, right after Our Lord and the Blessed Mother) figure to call upon in this day and time, most especially when Satan is prowling about the world seeking the ruin of souls in what appears to be overtime mode! Saint Joseph was a virtuous man who modeled obedience to the will of God, courage in the face of grave danger to his family, tremendous love and fidelity to his vocation as a husband and father and joy in his daily work. In the words of Saint Aquinas…there are many saints to whom God has given the power to assist us in the necessities of life, but the power given to Saint Joseph is unlimited: it extends to all our needs, and all those who invoke him with confidence are sure to be heard. For this reason we need to beseech his intercession particularly for all fathers, fathers-to-be, sons, brothers, grandfathers and uncles…all men…who are created to be guardians, protectors and spiritual leaders of their families…to grow in virtue and courage. Cited as a pillar for family life, let’s commit a space for him in our homes…with a beautiful statue and The Saint Joseph Prayer Book. Or learn about the Consecration to Saint Joseph and the mountain of graces that follow for you and your family!
Happy Feast of Saint Joseph!

The only thing I grew up knowing was that St. Patrick’s Day (also known as St. Patty’s Day) was a day for everything ‘green’ (green eggs and ham and even green beer!) not to mention everyone running to the pub or bar for a party! I’m not sure why this has happened to this great Saint? Maybe we as Catholics need to revive the real story about this well-loved evangelizer of the Catholic faith! At the age of 14, he was captured by Irish pirates and taken to Ireland where he lived as a slave herding sheep. It wasn’t until he turned 20 that he was able to escape; God told him in a dream to leave and go to the coast where he met some sailors who returned him to Britain. There he was reunited with his family! However, his life took an unusual turn as Patrick was given in a dream once again to return to the very land of Ireland (where he once fled the paganistic culture) and be “the voice to the Irish”. I guess the next time you raise your glass on St. Patty’s Day… remember this great soldier for Christ and share his story with your friends. You never know where your evangelizing might lead…especially if St. Patrick hears you!

Calling all Mothers and Mothers-to-be! Imagine one day you are rocking your little baby, nursing him, looking on his tiny features and the next day you are in prison and separated from him? Or worse than this, if that’s possible, you are put in prison when you are 8 months pregnant? That’s what happened to these two ladies in the 3rd century in Africa…Sts. Perpetua & Felicity…now the Patron Saints of Mothers and expectant Mothers! History records reveal that Perpetua was a well-educated noblewoman and Felicity was a slave. What was their crime, you might ask? They loved God and would not renounce their Christian faith! How is it that 1900 years later we are still witnessing Christian persecution…and it’s truly getting worse! How we could use the example of these two mother’s and their supernatural courage…following the beasts, both mothers were martyred by the sword. Although it’s not officially Mother’s Day today, let’s lift up ALL Mother’s in prayer…for their love, devotion and sacrifice for their families and yes…sometimes their unbelievable resolve to preserve the good of society for their children’s future. In the words of St. Perpetua, ”stand fast in the faith…Do not let our sufferings be a stumbling block to you.” Sts. Perpetua & Felicity please pray for all mothers to have just an ounce of your courage in the face of adversity!

Well, we all know how important our Christian traditions are for keeping us united and passing down the faith! Christmas time is full of rituals and traditions! Here’s a great new little way to introduce this Feast of the Holy Family! Ceremoniously, unpack these cute dolls by to teach your children about the most beautiful model of family that God sent us! Recite a favourite family prayer together or write one tailored to your family; read the nativity story again (remember the Christmas Season has really just started) and if you are really ambitious write a letter about your family and everything that has happened throughout the year…tell your family you will prepare another one for this special occasion next year! Finally, prepare a special treat and invite Jesus, Mary & Joseph to join you! Children learn well by doing special things over and over. These items are sure to please the little hands and imagination of your kiddos (or grand-kiddos!) for many years to come! Happy feasting with the Holy Family!
