Douglas says about this piece:

In recent years I have been more and more intrigued by the insights of sacramental theology. That all of creation can participate in leading us to participate in the life of God. Even the most ordinary of things can point us to Him. We are reminded of the grace and salvation that God freely offers to us. The world is still an enchanted place, more connected than we realize, being drawn together until God is “all in all.”

The image of Christ in this painting is rendered in blue so that no racial or ethnic group can make exclusive claim to him. It depicts Christ, the Logos, the Eternal One, taking a Sabbath rest in the shelter of my brother’s longing heart.

I don’t know the artist of this picture. I first saw it in the Netherlands. I’m sure the image means many things to many people, but for me…it urges me to sing “My chains are gone.
I've been set free!
My God, my Savior has ransomed me.
And like a flood His mercy reigns
Unending love, amazing grace.”
