📸✨ Calling All Shutterbugs! Submit Your Photos for 2028 Canadian Church Calendar!

Submissions for the 2028 calendar are now open. If you're considering submitting, here are some ideas.

We’re looking for photos of United Churches:

🙌 Interior shots of people: at worship, church events, the choir singing, architectural details, altar displays, the communion table, a filled baptismal font, etc.

🌿 Exterior shots of churches: not just church buildings but also community gardens, architectural details, greening projects, outdoor services, social justice events, etc.

🌱❄️🍂☀️ Remember to include winter, spring, and fall shots too.

We’d love to see photos of churches from all the provinces and territories across Canada!

📷 We print a photographer credit and offer a $100 honorarium for each photo chosen, and we’ll send you a copy of the calendar once it’s printed.

🗓 Deadline for submissions: January 17, 2027.

As we approach the first anniversary of The United Church of Canada's apology to the 2S and LGBTQIA+ community on August 8, 2025, we share an apology worship resource, adapted from Gathering worship materials.

This includes theological reflection on apology and forgiveness, exploring what it means to practice a “living apology,” and includes worship elements and questions to help communities move from words into faithful action.

Together, these offerings are intended to help communities meaningfully embody the apology and discern faithful next steps—grounding this work in worship, relationship, and a shared commitment to justice.

August 1 is Emancipation Day:

On Saturday, we pause to mark the day when human enslavement was finally abolished in the British Empire, including in Newfoundland and Labrador. On August 1, 1834, The Slavery Abolition Act came into effect, ending more than 400 years of African peoples being captured, forcefully transported across the Atlantic and sold as chattel. Over these centuries, more than 15 million people of African descent were subject to a system where they endured physical torture, forced labour, family separation, and the intentional erasure of culture, language and identity. On this day we take time to remember and reflect, honouring the resilience, strength and contributions of people of African descent, and pledging to fight the ongoing reality of anti-Black racism.
