I was honored to officiate at the Celebration of Life for Steve today.

It is with great sadness that the Office of the Lieutenant Governor marks the passing of Staff Sergeant Stephen Wright, Honorary Aide-de-Camp to the Honourable Wendy Cocchia, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia.

In his retirement years, after serving British Columbia as a member of the RCMP, Steve was driver to the Honourable Judith Guichon, 29th Lieutenant Governor, and the Honourable Janet Austin, 30th Lieutenant Governor. His excellent companionship and sense of humour helped pass many long hours of driving for engagements and road trips on community tours, and his professionalism and steadfast devotion to the Office assured all the Lieutenant Governor was in good hands. A longtime resident of Sooke, Steve left a lasting impression on the community as a member of the Sooke Lions Club, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 54, and a devoted participant in the Cops for Cancer Tour de Rock.

On behalf of his Government House family, we share our deepest condolences to Steve's family and loved ones, and all affected by this loss.
