PRESS RELEASE
April 10, 2026
Following a period of consultations and in accordance with the recommendations of the Apostolic Nuncio to Canada, Pope Leo XIV, Bishop of Rome and Primate of the Roman Catholic Church, announced today (at noon Rome time, 6 a.m. in our time zone) the appointment of Bishop Guy Boulanger, current Bishop of the Dioceses of Amos and Rouyn-Noranda, as Archbishop of Sherbrooke.
Bishop Boulanger will assume his new duties in approximately two months, on a date to be determined soon. Until then, he will continue his ministry in the Dioceses of Amos and Rouyn-Noranda but will henceforth serve as Diocesan Administrator. After he begins his ministry in the Archdiocese of Sherbrooke, the Colleges of Consultors of the Dioceses of Amos and Rouyn-Noranda will meet to appoint a priest as diocesan administrator to serve until the appointment of a new bishop.
Let us include Bishop Boulanger in our prayers in his new role and the ministry he will undertake. Let us also give thanks to God for his work and dedication to the two dioceses of Amos (since September 2023) and Rouyn-Noranda (since March 2020).
