St. Paul's United Church, Riverview, New Brunswick

St. Paul's United Church, Riverview, New Brunswick St. Paul's United Church is located in Riverview, New Brunswick (population 21,500) Paul's is a one point pastoral charge with weekly worship at 10:00 AM Sunday.

Paul’s is deeply involved in the community, supporting directly or indirectly numerous agencies, i.e. self help/issue groups, charities, food banks, youth activities, fundraisers, ministerial associations, retreats, not for profit daycare, etc. Our current Lay Minister is David-Roger Gagnon. Working previously with co-ministry, we returned to one minister in 2022; Rev. Steve Berube (1999 – 2024) a

nd Rev. Shawn Redden (2000 - 2010), Rev. Dr. Andy O'Neill (2012 - 2021). St Paul’s has an active Minister Emeritus: Rev. Dr. Hugh Farquhar. We are currently structured under the Official Board System. This is subject to review and evaluation by the GPS committee, formed in 2009, whose mandate is: Determine the effectiveness of St. Paul’s leadership and committee structure; Consider how it can more effectively meet the spiritual needs of congregants and involve them in the ministry and congregation; Make recommendations regarding governance with attention to the role of ministry personnel and staff within this structure. In 2003 the session of St. Paul’s began discussion that led to formation of a committee in 2005 to seek resources to facilitate further discussion conducting same-s*x marriages at St. Paul’s. A workshop was held for official board in 2006 and a congregational workshop and meeting was conducted in 2007. The results of the meeting led to the congregation of St Paul’s to endorse a policy to conduct same s*x marriages at St Paul’s with a vote of 85% in favour. In 2020 St. Paul's completed the Affirming Ministry educational programme and issued a statement of faith and action which welcomes people of all s*xual orientations and gender identities into every aspect of our life and work.
