So, what songs have risen to your heart this week? (Curious about this question? It was part of last Sunday's application challenge. Listen to the sermon here: https://www.bbchurch.ca/sermons/a-song-for-the-journey-of-lent-and-life/ )

Twice a year we remind you to change your clock either an hour ahead (as we will on March 8th) and then back an hour in the fall. But today's news informs us this will the last clock change! https://news.gov.bc.ca/releases/2026AG0013-000209?fbclid=IwVERDUAQS3RhleHRuA2FlbQIxMABzcnRjBmFwcF9pZAwzNTA2ODU1MzE3MjgAAR48WzTEJguqdgwPxTqq0LK8MdF946wNVKVjjwvqin8PrXCyqFIl_R5j_r0q0A_aem_FtFstbsw8O0BKn4_W4Skqw

‘Spring forward’ on March 8 will be the last time change, ending twice-yearly clock changes

Our hearts are broken for the families, friends and community of Tumbler Ridge who lost loved ones and will forever be changed by this tragic event. We pray for them, the first responders, and for those who will be called upon to provide counseling.

Below is an adapted prayer by a retired CBWC pastor, Greg Sumner, as posted on our denomination's CBWC FB page for you to pray if you cannot find the words.

A PRAYER FOR TUMBLER RIDGE

Lord of Mercy and Comfort, tonight we come with heavy hearts as we grieve with the community of Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia - for lives lost, for families shattered, for neighbours, friends, and first responders who carry images and pain they did not choose.

Hold close those who are mourning tonight. Be especially near to those who feel afraid, angry, numb, overwhelmed or in complete shock.

Lord Jesus, we ask for Your protection and peace to settle over this small northern BC town.

Where fear now lingers, bring a sense of your faithful presence and supernatural safety.

Where trauma has entered bodies and memories, begin the long, gentle work of soul healing.

We pray for spiritual leaders, pastors, elders, chaplains, community leaders, school teachers and caregivers in Tumbler Ridge.

Be strength for those providing care and leadership in the days ahead.

Give them Your grand wisdom beyond their own strength; tenderness without exhaustion, and courage to speak hope without rushing grief.

Sustain them as they walk with others through the darkness.

Lord, be a refuge for children, youth, and families grasping to make sense of the unthinkable.

Show this community how to carry one another’s burdens, and let love be stronger than fear.

We place the names, the stories, and the sorrow of this day into Your hands - trusting that You are near to the brokenhearted and that You will not abandon those who cry out to You. Thank you Lord that you have said you will not leave us without a Comforter and that you will never leave us.

Be the Light in this darkness, we pray.

For its in Your Name we pray Lord Jesus

Amen

A prayer for the new year:

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for making all things new! As another new year begins, help me live each day for You. May I continually have a new song in my heart to sing to You, no matter what comes my way. I trust in You because I know that Your mercies are new every morning, and nothing ahead of me will take You by surprise.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
