God wanted to get Gideon and the Israelites to express their faith. This had to be God’s victory, not a victory won by human hands. So there was a winnowing down of the human number and force. With only 300 men it clearly had to have been the Lord’s victory.

Sermon Snippet | Deborah

Deborah was unique among the judges. She did not lead from the battlefield. She led from a place of wisdom and of character. She sat beneath a palm tree to settle legal and relational disputes. She functioned as a motherly protector, and as a “deputy of Yahweh.” Deborah reminds us that God’s leadership involves both rescue; and righteous rule.

Sermon Snippet | Othniel

The Isrealites stopped halfway in their conquest because they got comfortable, lethargic and complacent. They traded God’s best and was trapped in a cycle of “covenantal amnesia,” failing to fully occupy the land and turning to false gods. Through Othniel whose name means “Lion of God,” we see how God isn’t bound by our social background or family history to bring about deliverance. Isreal found a surprising ray of hope in the first judge , Othniel who was technically an outsider. God’s grace is always greater than his judgement.
