This past Sunday, our guest speaker, Toby Lam, brought us a rich message from Psalm 133.

Have you ever wondered — do I really need a local church? Can't personal Christian friendships be enough?

Psalm 133 answers that question through the beauty of Hebrew poetry — flowing like a waterfall, each image more expansive than the last:

🫒 Oil poured over a head — In the ancient world, oil was precious, stored alongside gold and silver. When brothers and sisters dwell together, it is that precious. A sign of refreshment and abundance.

🏔️ Dew on Mount Hermon — Not a small morning drop — a mountain drenched in abundance, overflowing.

✨ There, God commands a blessing — eternal life. The poem builds until it lands on something that stretches to infinity.

Why a local church? Personal friendships are a gift — but they come with freedom to choose. Church is different. Scripture places church relationships between friendship and family.

We have real obligations to one another. Not because we have everything in common, but because in one Spirit we are one body.

And at the centre of the poem stands Aaron — a high priest. Oil flows through him to the community. Today, we have a High Priest. His name is Jesus. Blessings flow through Him into His gathered body — and we are that body. 💛

Hey church! A few changes for this Sunday:

📍 We're meeting back at TWU, 4th floor (due to unpredictable weather)
🕤 Service time moves up to 9:30AM (to accommodate the church meeting after us)

We will still have our "picnic" together; we're just moving that to after our service on Sunday on the 4th floor. There will be food!

This past Sunday, P. Sam Lim continued our Christian Community series from Galatians 6:1-5

Most of us, when asked how we're doing, say "fine." Even when we're not. We live in a culture that treats self-sufficiency as a badge of honour. And this has quietly crept into the church too.

But what if God's design for community is built around the reality that some things were never meant to be carried alone?

Three things from Galatians 6:

🩹 Restore Gently (v.1)
When someone in the community is caught in sin, the response isn't to distance ourselves — it's to draw close and restore. The Greek word (katartizō) means to mend, to bring back to original condition after damage.

The goal of restoration is never punishment. It is always wholeness. And Paul is clear about how — gently. Listening before speaking. Speaking truth in love. Staying present through the slow, messy process. Approaching the person, knowing we, too, are sinners.

🤝 Carry Each Other's Burdens (v.2)
Grief. Trauma. Serious illness. Mental health struggles. Financial crisis. Spiritual burnout. These are the kinds of burdens the community of Christ is designed to carry together. Three things that create that culture:

🔒 People need to feel safe — the community's response must be presence, not judgment or gossip.

👀 We need awareness — we can't carry what we're not close enough to see. This is where small groups become essential.

🕰️ We must be willing to stay — carrying someone's burden isn't a one-time act. It requires sustained presence through weeks, months, sometimes years.

⚠️ Guard Against Pride (vv.3-5)
A proud person won't restore gently. A proud person won't carry burdens. The antidote is honest self-examination — bringing our hearts before God and asking: Why am I doing what I'm doing? Is my first response to someone who's sinned judgment or compassion?

Two invitations:
If you've been carrying something heavy alone — you weren't designed to carry it alone. Take a step and share it with someone in this community.

If you sense someone is carrying something heavy — don't leave today without doing something. A text. A phone call. "I've been thinking about you — can we grab coffee?"

Presence doesn't have to be extraordinary. It just has to show up. 🙏

"Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfil the law of Christ." — Galatians 6:2

This past Sunday, P. Sam Lim continued our Community series from John 13:34-35 and 1 John 4:7-12 — "A New Command: Love One Another."

Let's be honest. Loving people is hard. The easiest people to love are often strangers. It's the people closest to us — our families, our friends, the person at church whose personality grates on us — who are often the hardest to love.

And yet Jesus gives us this command: love one another.
The solution isn't to try harder or manufacture warmth. That just leads to exhaustion and guilt. So what actually holds the community of God together?

Three truths from our passage:

❤️ Love One Another — A New Standard
Before Jesus gave the command to love, He modelled it. Knowing betrayal and crucifixion were coming — He got down on His knees and washed His disciples' feet. All of them.

Including Judas. Love is not primarily a feeling — it is a decision to act, even when it costs something.

🙏 God is the Source of Our Love
We cannot give what we have not first received. We cannot claim to know God and fail to love people — the two cannot be separated. When we spend time with God, His love overflows into how we treat others. If our relationships are marked by coldness, the deeper question is: when was the last time I truly spent time with God?

✝️ Love Defined — by the Cross
God's love is agape — sacrificial, moving toward the other person's needs at personal cost. God loved us first — not because we deserved it — but because it is His very nature.

"This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us." — 1 John 4:10

God's love is not meant to stay within the walls of the church. When the body of Christ loves one another, God is made visible to the world. They will know us by our love.

"By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." — John 13:35

A challenge for this week:
Is there one person you could reach out to — not because you want something from them, but simply to know them a little deeper? And if you feel depleted, go to God first. Be filled by His love — then go love others as you have been loved. 🙏

Have you ever wondered if the church actually needed you? Not someone like you — but you, specifically? 🙌

This past Sunday, P. Sam Lim continued our Christian Community series from 1 Corinthians 12:12-27 — and Paul's answer is a resounding yes.

Three truths from 1 Corinthians 12:

🙌 God placed you here on purpose. The church is not a Christian club — it is the living body of Christ. Your presence at Crucible is not accidental. We cannot function as God designed without you.

💪 The less visible parts are indispensable. Paul uses the strongest Greek word he can find — anankaios — meaning cannot do without. The person setting up chairs, quietly praying, cleaning up after everyone leaves — these gifts are not optional. They are anankaios - they are indispensable.

💛 When one part suffers, all suffer — when one is honoured, all rejoice. We are one body. We suffer together. We celebrate together.

"Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it." — 1 Corinthians 12:27

Your absence is felt. You are not optional. We need you. 🙏

Hey Church!

This past Sunday, P. Sam Lim launched our brand new 11-week series on Christian Community with a message from Genesis 2:18 and Acts 2:42-47.

We live in a world more "connected" than ever — and yet loneliness is at an all-time high. Almost two-thirds of Gen Z report feeling lonely.

In 2023, the World Health Organization declared loneliness a global public health crisis. Research even shows that chronic loneliness is equivalent to smoking 15 ci******es a day.

But here's the thing — our loneliness isn't just a social problem. It's a spiritual signpost pointing us back to what we were made for.

From Genesis 2:18, God looked at Adam — surrounded by God's own presence and purpose — and said: "It is not good for the man to be alone." The Hebrew word for "alone" here (badad) means to be cut off, in solitary, like a foreigner in exile.

And the word "good" (tov) means life-giving and beautiful. In other words, God was saying: aloneness is not life-giving. We were designed for one another. Even the presence of God does not remove the human need for community and relationship.

From Acts 2:42-47:
Three thousand people gave their lives to Christ — and they didn't just go back to their regular lives. They became something new. The early church was born.

And they devoted themselves — persistently and fiercely — to four practices that created deep, radical community:

📖 Teaching — Community was built not on cultural similarities or felt needs, but on the truth of Christ and Scripture. Teaching gave them a shared identity, a shared story, and a shared life.

🤝 Fellowship (Koinonia) — More than just coffee and church socials. Koinonia means shared life, shared resources, shared suffering, and shared joy. It's the language of family.

🍞 Breaking of Bread — Sharing meals together was a beautiful way to remember Christ's presence with His people. The next time you share a meal with someone from church — remember, it's never just been about the food.

🙏 Prayer — Prayer in the early church was communal, not just private. When people pray together, they come to know each other in a way that's hard to develop any other way.

A community that doesn't pray together will always remain superficial. The big idea:
Every time we gather, every meal shared, every burden carried together — the church is God's answer to Genesis 2:18. We were not made to do life from a distance. We were made for something far deeper, richer, and yes — harder. We were made for community. 💛

We just wrapped up our journey through the book of Acts! 📖✨ This week P. Lawrence Yuen helped us look at Paul's dramatic final chapter — a shipwreck, a snakebite, and his arrival in Rome as a prisoner — and asked what his story teaches us about persevering when life feels uncertain.

Hey church!

This past Sunday, P. Sam Lim walked us through Acts 27:13-44 on the topic on how to weather life's storms.

Life is like a roller coaster — and when the storms hit, how do we respond? Paul finds himself in the middle of a violent, life-threatening storm at sea, surrounded by 276 people who had completely given up hope.

Yet Paul stood out — not because he wasn't afraid, but because of where he placed his trust.

Three powerful truths from Acts 27:

⚓ God is Sovereign in the Storms of Life. When life feels completely out of control, it is never out of God's control. Sometimes a storm doesn't mean we're outside God's will — sometimes it means we're exactly where He wants us, and He's forming something in us that can only happen in the storm.

🙏 Our Responsibility is to Trust in God's Care. Trusting God doesn't mean throwing out common sense or good judgment — it means responding differently than those who don't know God.

Paul was afraid, but he moved forward in faith, anchored in God's Word and promise. If we build a spiritual foundation in Christ before the storm hits, we'll have something solid to stand on when it does.

🌊 God Uses Our Trust in the Storm to Bear Witness. Paul didn't keep God's promise to himself — he shared it openly with the entire crew. In dark seasons, people tend to be more open to spiritual things.

Your trust in God in the storm can become someone else's evidence that God is real and that He cares. "Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you." — 1 Peter 5:7

A question for us to sit with this week:
Who is in your "ship" — watching how you handle the storms of life? Your faithfulness in Christ is not private. It is meant for everyone around you. 🙏

Pastor Dan Forest continued our Acts series with a message on Festus — the Roman governor who barely gets a mention in Scripture, yet made a choice that helped set Paul on his path to Rome.

Most of us won't be remembered like Paul, Peter, or Stephen. We're side characters. But Festus reminds us that side characters still matter — their choices ripple through God's story.

As Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 12: "the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable."

You may not be the hero of the story, but you are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139), known by name, and given a part to play in what God is doing.
