This past Sunday, P. Sam Lim continued our journey through Acts, preaching from Acts 17:16-34.

Paul arrives in Athens — a city full of idols and intellectual curiosity. Rather than condemning the people, he observes, engages, and meets them where they are. He even notices an altar inscribed "To an Unknown God" — and uses it as a bridge to introduce the one true God.

Three powerful truths from this passage:

🪨 Every human heart has an altar to the unknown God. We are all worshippers by nature. The deep longing we feel — that sense that there's more to life — is God-given. As St. Augustine wrote: "Our heart is restless until it finds its rest in You."

🌍 The true and living God is near. God is not distant. He is Creator, self-sufficient, Sovereign over history, and closer to us than our very breath — even when we don't feel it.

✝️ God has the final word: The Resurrection. The resurrection of Jesus is the crux of our faith, and it calls all of us to repent — to turn away from our idols and toward the God who has made Himself fully known in Christ.

The Gospel always demands a response. The people of Athens responded three ways: some mocked, some delayed, and some believed. How will we respond?

The unknown God has a name. His name is Jesus — and He has been pursuing you far longer than you've been searching for Him. 🙏

As we continue our journey through our current sermon series in Acts, we arrive at Acts 17:1-15.

P. Sam Lim unpacked Paul and his team in their ministry to Thessalonica and Berea. Two different cities with two different responses to the Gospel message.

Thessalonica, while some received the Gospel, others did not, and gave Paul and his friends a hard time, forcing them out and giving them trouble.

Paul and his team then went to Berea, where the Bereans were of noble character, and examined the Scriptures. They did not just receive whatever Paul spoke. They studied.

We are encouraged to follow the Bereans, and be eager in our desire to open the Scriptures and be transformed!

We were challenged with two questions to reflect on:

1. Are we eager to open the Scriptures?
2. Are we examining and studying God's word for ourselves?

As we continue our journey through our current sermon series in Acts, we arrive at Acts 16:25-34.

Beaten, chained, and locked in a windowless prison cell — Paul and Silas weren't there because they had done something wrong. They were there because they had done something right. And yet, at midnight, they began to pray and sing.

What followed was extraordinary. An earthquake shook the prison, the doors flew open, and every chain came loose. But Paul and Silas didn't run.

They stayed — and in staying, they saved the life of the very jailor who had imprisoned them, leading him to ask the question behind every human heart: "What must I do to be saved?"

Praise is not an escape from darkness — it's a weapon within it. And the God who stayed with Paul and Silas in that prison cell is the same God who stays with you.

As we continue walking through the book of Acts, P. Sam Lim helps us walk through Acts 16:6-15, where Paul and his team continue their missionary journey. However, they would encounter the Spirit's leading in the form of closed doors.

The Spirit continued to close doors, and inevitably led Paul and the team to Macedonia (where they were asked to come to help).

God had orchestrated a God-moment where he closed doors, in order to open new ones for Paul to come to Philippi to meet a woman by the name of Lydia, who God was preparing in her heart to receive the Good News of Jesus Christ.

What can we learn from Paul and his team about when God closes doors and opportunities? Who are the Lydia's that the Spirit has placed in our lives?

As we continue walking through the book of Acts, P. Sam Lim helps us walk through Acts 15:36-16:5, where we encounter some ministry/work drama!

Even the great apostle Paul and Barnabas did not agree on everything. How do we handle conflict and tension like that in our own workplaces and relationships?

Fritz Baylen helps unpack the passage for us, looking at the different personalities and the different ways that God has wired all of us. Our differences are not "bad", but in fact, a gift for each other.

04/22/2026

As we continue walking through the book of Acts, P. Sam Lim helps us walk through Acts 14:8-28, where Paul and Barnabas continue their missionary journey.

As the Holy Spirit leads them to a small Roman colony, Lystra, they experience God showing up in the most unexpected of ways.

We see in Acts 14 that God's grace reaches the unreached. We are given the example of the lame man in Lystra, as well as the people of the city who hadn't heard of the Gospel, but had experienced the common grace of God.

We learned that the road to the kingdom is often filled with suffering. In other words, God's kingdom comes through the Cross. It is the path that Jesus took, and it is a path that His disciples take as well. This is the pattern of the Kingdom of God. As those who are citizens of the Kingdom, we carry a Cross-shaped Gospel with us.

And last but not least, God has always left nations and the world a witness. Not necessarily in the form of the Gospel message (specific revelation), but in general revelation - through God's creative works (creation!).

The people of Lystra were not left without a witness, and God had been at work well before Paul and Barnabas arrived or even spoke a word.

God is at work in our lives and in the world today, all around us. He is opening doors all the time. The question isn't whether God is working or active; it's recognizing the doors the Spirit is opening, when and where God is working, and whether we will walk through the doors He's opening for us, as Paul and Barnabas did when God opened the door to Lystra.

04/21/2026

As we continue to walk through the book of Acts, P. Sam Lim helps us walk through Acts 13:4-12, where Paul and Barnabas, on their missionary journey, were confronted with spiritual and demonic attacks and oppression.

God was working and preparing a man named Sergius Paulus, the proconsul, a man of high intelligence. He was open to learning about who Christ was, but Elymas attempted to hinder and deter him from hearing the Gospel.

When we are confronted with such opposition and a counterfeit Gospel, what do we do? Do we run away? Do we remain silent?

Acts 13:4-12 gives us a sort of roadmap on what to do. We can look at Paul and Barnabas' response to Elymas as an example of how we can confront counterfeit Gospels and scripts in our own lives and how we can respond.
