✝️ Celebrating the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross ✝️

Today, our Our Lady of Nineveh Chaldean Catholic community gathered at Bruce’s Mill Conservation Park to celebrate the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, with the Divine Liturgy celebrated by His Excellency Bishop Robert Saeed Jarjis.

In the readings of today’s liturgy, we were reminded of the mystery at the heart of our faith: what the world may see as weakness, God has revealed as His wisdom and power. Through the Cross, Christ gave Himself for us and opened for us the path to life, hope, and salvation.

The Cross is not simply an ornament we place in our homes or wear around our necks. It calls us to live its meaning — with faith, self-giving, courage, and trust in Christ. As the liturgical reflection reminds us, we are called to embrace the reality of the Cross in our lives and to live its message in all its fullness.

We are especially grateful to Bishop Robert for celebrating this beautiful Liturgy with us and for sharing his pastoral presence with our community. His presence made this outdoor celebration especially meaningful.

Following the Liturgy, our community remained together to enjoy a wonderful time of fellowship, food, conversation, and friendship. It was a beautiful reminder that our faith brings us together not only around the altar, but also as a family.

A blessed Feast of the Holy Cross to all our parishioners, families, friends, and everyone who joined us today.

“By the Cross, we are saved; by the Cross, we rejoice.” ✝️

May the Life-Giving Cross of Christ remain at the centre of our lives and lead us always to Him.

🙏 Thank you to everyone who helped make today’s celebration possible, and to all who joined us in prayer and fellowship.

✝️ The Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross — Sliwa

Next Monday, the Chaldean Church celebrates the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, a feast that carries us from the Season of Elijah into the Season of the Holy Cross — Sliwa.

The Season of Elijah has invited us to look toward the coming of Christ, to remain spiritually awake, and to prepare our hearts for the fulfillment of God’s promise. With the Feast of the Holy Cross, our gaze turns to the Cross of Christ — the sign of our salvation, victory, and hope.

The Cross is not simply a symbol of suffering. It is the Cross through which Christ conquered death, overcame sin, and opened the way to life. It gathers together the mystery of His Passion, Resurrection, and His promised coming in glory.

As we enter Sliwa, may the Cross of Christ become more than something we wear or venerate—it may become the source of our strength, the sign of our faith, and the path by which we follow Christ.

🔥 In the ancient Chaldean tradition, the Feast of the Holy Cross is also associated with the lighting of fires, a beautiful symbol of the light and victory of Christ proclaimed through His Cross.

“By Your Holy Cross, You have redeemed the world.”

✝️ May the Holy Cross of Christ reign in our hearts, strengthen our faith, and lead us to the fullness of life in Him.

✝️ The Second Sunday of Elijah

Today, our community gathered once again around the Holy Mass as His Excellency Bishop Robert celebrated the Divine Liturgy with us on the Second Sunday of the Season of Elijah.

This Sunday’s readings invite us to listen—not only with our ears, but with our hearts.

📖 Isaiah 30:15–26 reminds us that our strength is found in returning to the Lord, in quietness, trust, and confidence in His saving presence.

📖 2 Thessalonians 2:15–3:18 calls us to stand firm in the faith we have received and to persevere in doing what is good, trusting that the Lord will strengthen us.

📖 In the Gospel, Matthew 13:1–23, Jesus gives us the Parable of the Sower. The seed is the Word of God, generously scattered upon the world. Yet it is the soil of our hearts that determines whether that seed will take root and bear fruit.

What kind of soil is my heart?

As we continue through the Season of Elijah, may we allow God's Word to take deep root within us—transforming our hearts, guiding our lives, and bearing fruit in our families and our community.

🙏 We are grateful to Bishop Robert for celebrating the Divine Liturgy with us and for continuing to accompany our community in faith and prayer.

May the Lord open our hearts to His Word and make our lives fertile ground for His grace.

May the Lord bless you all. ✝️
