1 Corinthians 13 describes a beautiful kind of love that can feel impossible to live out on our own. The truth is, we were never meant to manufacture God’s love through effort or good works. As we abide in Christ, let go of false beliefs, and grow in our relationship with Him, His love begins to flourish within us and flow naturally to others.

Our hearts can become divided when we give too much of ourselves to the things that compete for our attention and affection.

But God desires more for us than a heart scattered among countless distractions. As we surrender unhealthy attachments and walk in His truth, He works to restore our hearts and help us love others more fully.

“Unite my heart to fear your name.” — Psalm 86:11

What if the reason we struggle to love others fully is that our hearts have been divided among too many things? The distractions and idols we cling to can fragment our hearts, leaving us with less to give. When life doesn't go as planned, frustration, anxiety, and discouragement can take over. Sometimes, we try to regain control by managing the people and circumstances around us.

But God hasn't called us to control others. He's called us to reflect His character.

Galatians 5:22–23 reminds us that the fruit of the Spirit includes love, joy, peace, patience, and self-control.

What would change if your goal were love instead of control?

What does it really mean to “love your neighbor as yourself”?

We often hear that we need to learn to love ourselves before we can love others. But Scripture points us in a different direction. We already naturally care for ourselves—so God calls us to take that same care and turn it outward.

Biblical love isn't primarily about how we feel. It is about how we choose to act toward others.

And when we wonder, “How can I possibly love like God loves?” the answer isn't to try harder in our own strength. God has poured His love into our hearts through the Holy Spirit.

So today, ask yourself: Where is God inviting me to turn my focus outward and love someone through my actions?

Biblical love isn’t primarily about how we feel toward someone, but how we choose to act toward them. And when we feel like we simply can’t love someone, we can remember that God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit.

But Psalm 23 doesn't promise that we will avoid the valley—it reminds us that we don't walk through it alone. Jesus knows suffering, pain, and even death. Whatever valley you're facing today, keep your eyes fixed on Him.
