Hello brothers and sisters in Christ!
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age. – Matthew 28:19-20 ESV
If someone is going to be a disciple of Jesus Christ, they must be baptized into the name of the Holy Trinity. The water is poured three times for the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Baptism joins you through the water to the eternal triune God and seals you with the promise of salvation, as Peter says in 1 Peter 3:21; Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you. Yet, discipleship, or following Jesus, does not just begin and end with baptism. It includes the second part of our verse: teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. To follow Jesus is to be baptised and to learn His teachings, to hear God’s Word each Sunday and to study it in personal devotion for the rest of our lives. Though it might seem that Confirmation class fulfills that part of the Christian life, it is only the beginning. The Holy Spirit will continue to form us through our baptism and God’s Word until we graduate to the halls of God’s Heavenly Kingdom. The Lord Jesus will teach us and bring us to that most blessed place! Thanks be to God!
May God bless your day and the rest of your week,
