The president of Haiti was assassinated in his residence early yesterday morning. Haiti has been a hotspot for rioting and gang warfare over the past three years, and just last month, the UN stated that the violence had escalated to “unprecedented levels”. In the wake of this assassination, the prime minister has declared a 15-day "State of Siege" (like martial law... more severe than a state of emergency, but not quite a state of war).
Kings Church has a church-to-church partnership with Eglise Wesleyenne de Maïs Gaté in Port-au-Prince, and we have assured Pastor Solon that we are praying for them during this time. Please pray for peace in the streets, for wisdom for the existing government, and for the Christians in Haiti (including our partner church) to reflect Jesus throughout this crisis.
Pray also for the missionaries in Haiti [including Mike and Laura Smith, missionaries we support at the Community Advancement Ministry Project (C.A.M.P.) in rural Cayes-Jacmel]. May they glorify Christ and lift Him up as a beacon of hope.
As you pray, read through Psalm 46 (see below) and proclaim it's truth over the Church in Haiti.
Psalm 46 (NIV)
1 God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
3 though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.
4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy place where the Most High dwells.
5 God is within her, she will not fall;
God will help her at break of day.
6 Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
he lifts his voice, the earth melts.
7 The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
8 Come and see what the Lord has done,
the desolations he has brought on the earth.
9 He makes wars cease
to the ends of the earth.
He breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
he burns the shields with fire.
10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”
11 The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
