Still Thankful

Thanksgiving has a way of reminding us to look around and recognize what we have been given. For some, that may come easy. For others, gratitude may feel harder because life has brought uncertainty, disappointment, loss, or prayers that still seem unanswered.

Scripture
Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. — 1 Thessalonians 5:18

Notice that Scripture does not tell us to give thanks for every circumstance. It tells us to give thanks in every circumstance.

There is a difference.

We do not have to pretend that everything that happens is good. We do not thank God for sickness, tragedy, broken relationships, or suffering. But even in those places, we can still find reasons to be thankful because our circumstances do not change who God is.

He is still faithful.
His grace is still sufficient.
His mercy is still new.

And Jesus is still with us.

Sometimes thanksgiving comes easily around a table filled with food, surrounded by family and laughter. But some of the deepest thanksgiving is found when life has not gone according to plan and we can still say, “Lord, I trust You.”

Maybe today you can look back and see prayers God answered. Maybe you can remember doors He opened, people He placed in your life, or moments when His provision arrived exactly when you needed it.

But perhaps you are still waiting.
Even there, you can give thanks.

I encourage you to thank Him for the breath in your lungs. Thank Him for another morning. Thank Him for the people who love you.

Thank Him for grace that does not run out and for a Saviour who came looking for us before we ever thought about looking for Him.

And if you are still trying to figure out what you believe about Jesus, perhaps Thanksgiving can begin with something very simple: “God, if You are there, help me to see Your goodness.”

Thanksgiving is more than a holiday. It is a posture of the heart that remembers that even when life is uncertain, God remains good!

What can you thank God for today? Not because everything is perfect, but because He has remained faithful.

Whatever this season looks like for you, there is still grace to receive, hope to hold onto, and something for which to give thanks.

Prayer
Father, thank You for Your goodness, Your faithfulness, and Your grace. Help us recognize Your hand in every season, including the difficult ones. Give us thankful hearts that trust You even while we are waiting.

Above all, thank You for Jesus and the hope we have in Him. Amen.

There Was Jesus

There are seasons of life when God feels close, and others when we wonder where He is. Looking back, though, we begin to recognize that even in the places where we felt most alone — Jesus was there.

“And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” — Matthew 28:20
________________________________________

Sometimes we recognize the presence of Jesus immediately. Other times, we only see it when we look back.

We remember the season when everything seemed to fall apart. The diagnosis we were afraid to hear. The relationship that broke our heart. The prayer that seemed unanswered. The night we wondered how we were going to make it through another day.

And yet, somehow, we did.

Perhaps someone called at exactly the right moment. Strength came when we thought we had none left. A door opened that we could not have opened ourselves. Peace settled over us even though nothing around us had changed.

There was Jesus.

We live in a broken world where sickness, disappointment, loss, and hardship are real. But the promise of Jesus is that we never have to walk through those places alone.

He is there in the hospital room.
He is there when the house feels painfully quiet.

He is there when the future is uncertain.
He is there when you are trying to rebuild what has been broken.

And He is even there when you do not yet know Him.

Maybe you are reading this and you would not call yourself a believer. Perhaps you are still asking questions about Jesus, faith, or whether God is really there at all.

Jesus is not frightened by your questions, your doubts, your failures, or your past.

He invites you to come.

And for those of us who already know Him, sometimes we need the same reminder. When life becomes difficult, we can become so focused on the storm that we forget Who is standing with us in it.
One day we may look back over places we thought would destroy us and recognize something we could not see clearly at the time.

Through the tears, there was Jesus.
Through the disappointment, there was Jesus.

When we were weak, there was Jesus.
And whatever tomorrow brings, He will still be there.

When you look back over the difficult seasons of your life, where can you now recognize that Jesus was nearer than you realized?

Encouragement
You may not know what tomorrow holds, but you do not have to face it alone—Jesus is with you.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for being near even in the moments when we cannot see or feel Your presence. Help us recognize Your hand in our lives and trust You in the places we do not yet understand. And for anyone searching for You today, make Your love and grace real to their heart. Amen.

Truly Amazing

Sometimes the hardest time to believe God loves us is when we are disappointed in ourselves. We may know what Scripture says, yet after a failure, a wrong decision, or a season where we have drifted, something inside us tells us to keep our distance from God until we can somehow make things right. But that is not how His love works.

Scripture
No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord. -- Romans 8:39

Our instinct may be to straighten things out first, become a little better, pray a little harder, or somehow make ourselves worthy enough to come back.

But that is not the heart of our Father.

His love is not fragile. It does not disappear when we struggle, and it is not withdrawn when we fall short. God does not love us more on our best day and less on our worst. His love flows from who He is, not from how perfectly we perform.

When we recognize that we have wandered, we do not need to hide from Him. We can turn toward Him, repent where repentance is needed, make right what needs making right and discover that His arms were never closed.

His love is what draws us back.

God, who knows us completely, still loves us completely. He sees the places where we struggle, the things we wish we could undo, and even the parts of ourselves we have difficulty accepting—and still He invites us nearer.

Perhaps today you have been keeping your distance because you feel unworthy, ashamed, disappointed in yourself, or uncertain whether God still wants you close. Do not allow those feelings to speak louder than His Word.

Come to Him as you are.

Let His love meet you there. Let His grace restore what shame has tried to steal. Let Him remind you that your failure does not have the final word over your life.

God’s love does.
And that love is truly amazing.

Whatever yesterday looked like, you can turn toward Him today. His love has not changed, His grace is still reaching for you, and His arms are still open.

Father, thank You for a love that does not abandon me when I fall short. Help me to stop hiding behind shame, regret, or feelings of unworthiness and instead draw near to You. Where I need to turn back to You, give me the courage to do so. Let Your grace restore and transform me and remind me that nothing can separate me from Your love in Christ Jesus. Amen

Never Give Up

There are moments in life when simply taking another step can feel difficult. Illness can wear us down, relationships can leave us wounded, circumstances can seem impossible, and sometimes we become tired of fighting battles we thought would have ended by now. But when our strength begins to fail, we need to remember who is carrying us.

Scripture
“I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.” — Isaiah 46:4

“Never give up” sounds easy when life is going well. It becomes something altogether different when you are hurting, exhausted, disappointed, or wondering how much more you can take.

There may be times when you feel there is no hope. Voices may whisper that nothing will ever change, that you are finished, or that there is no point in continuing. Sometimes even your own thoughts can begin agreeing with those voices.

But they do not get the final word.

God does.

And God says, “I will carry you.”

There will be seasons when your strength simply isn't enough. That is not the time to give up; it is the time to lean more fully upon the One whose strength never runs out.

You may be facing an illness that has changed your life. You may be praying for a relationship that seems beyond repair. You may be carrying disappointment, loneliness, financial pressure, grief, or circumstances nobody else completely understands. God has not promised that we will never experience difficult seasons, but He has promised that we do not have to walk through them alone.

Sometimes faith looks powerful and courageous. Other times faith is simply saying, “Lord, I don't know how I am going to get through this, but I am still trusting You.”

That is still faith.

Ask God for enough grace for today. Take the next step with Him. Tomorrow, His grace will still be there.

You may feel tired, but God is not tired of carrying you.
You may not see the answer yet, but God is still working.

So hold on to Him.

Not because everything is easy.
Not because you understand everything.

But because God is good, God is faithful, and He has not let go of you.

Never give up.

You do not have to possess tomorrow's strength today; trust the God who promises to sustain you one step at a time.

Heavenly Father, when I am tired and tempted to give up, remind me that I am not walking alone. Carry me where I am weak, strengthen my faith, and help me trust Your goodness even when I cannot see what lies ahead. Thank You for never letting go of me. Amen.

By His Stripes

There are times when we can believe God has something good for us, yet still wonder whether we have done enough to receive it. We look at our failures, our weaknesses, or the places where we still struggle and quietly ask, Am I worthy of His healing? Am I worthy of His freedom?

Scripture
But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. — Isaiah 53:5
________________________________________

The older translations use the familiar words, “By His stripes we are healed.”

Those stripes tell us something powerful: Jesus paid a price we could never pay for ourselves.

Our peace was purchased. Our forgiveness was purchased. Our freedom was purchased. And Scripture points us toward healing through the suffering Christ willingly carried for us.

That means we do not have to convince God to be good to us.
We do not have to work ourselves into a place where we finally deserve His grace. We do not have to pray perfectly, believe perfectly, live perfectly, or somehow prove that we have become worthy enough.

If receiving from God depended upon our worthiness, none of us could stand.

The gospel is not the story of people becoming good enough to reach God. It is the story of Jesus coming to us and accomplishing what we could never accomplish ourselves.

There may be something in your life today that needs His healing touch. Perhaps it is your body. Perhaps your heart has been wounded. Maybe fear has held you captive, regret keeps pulling you backward, or something from your past still seems to have a grip on your present.

Do not measure what Christ has made available by what you believe you deserve.

Look instead at the cross.

His wounds were real. His sacrifice was real. And His grace toward you is real.

We certainly continue to seek Him, obey Him, grow in faith, and surrender our lives to Him. But none of those things are payments we make to purchase His goodness. Jesus already paid the price.
So come to Him without striving.

Bring Him the sickness. Bring Him the hurt. Bring Him the fear, the bo***ge, the disappointment, and even the places where your faith feels weak.

You do not have to earn your way into His presence.

Jesus has already opened the way.

By His stripes.

What have I been trying to earn from God that Jesus is inviting me to receive by grace?

You do not stand before God because you are worthy enough; you come confidently because Jesus has already paid the price.

Lord Jesus, thank You for what You accomplished for me at the cross. Help me to stop striving to earn what You give by grace. Bring Your healing, freedom, and peace into every place in my life that needs Your touch. Teach me to trust what You have done and rest in Your goodness. Amen.

Forgive Yourself

If you’ve ever disappointed yourself, fallen into something you knew better than to do, or wondered, “How did I end up here again?”—you are not alone. Sometimes the person we struggle most to forgive is the one looking back at us in the mirror.
________________________________________

Scripture
“I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.” — Romans 7:15
________________________________________

There is something deeply reassuring about Paul’s honesty when he wrote this in the book of Romans. This was an apostle, a man used mightily by God, yet he openly acknowledged the struggle within himself. He knew what was right, desired what was right, and still found himself falling short.

Most of us understand that struggle.

We say something we wish we could take back. We repeat a mistake we promised ourselves we would never make again. We allow anger, temptation, pride, fear, or weakness to get the better of us, and afterward we can become our own harshest judge.

Conviction has a purpose. When the Holy Spirit reveals something that needs to change, we should listen. We should repent, ask God to forgive us, make things right where possible, and turn away from what pulled us down.

But repentance and self-punishment are not the same thing.
God’s grace is not permission to keep living however we please. Grace does not say that sin does not matter. In fact, genuine grace draws us toward change. When we truly understand what Christ has forgiven, our desire should be to walk closer to Him, not farther away.

Yet after we have sincerely repented, there comes a point when continuing to condemn ourselves no longer produces holiness—it simply keeps us chained to yesterday.

You may remember your failure, but God is calling you forward.

Perhaps forgiving yourself begins by agreeing with God. If He says there is mercy, receive mercy. If He says you are forgiven, stop trying to pay a debt Christ has already carried. Learn from what happened. Let it humble you. Let it deepen your dependence upon Him. But do not build your identity around your worst moment.

Paul struggled, but he did not stop following Jesus.

Neither should you.

Fall down, repent, receive His grace, get back up, and keep walking.

Have I truly repented of my failure, or am I continuing to punish myself for something I have already placed before God?

Encouragement
Your failure may be part of your story, but by the grace of God, it does not have to become your identity.

Prayer
Father, forgive me where I have fallen short and give me a truly repentant heart. Help me learn from my failures without living beneath their condemnation. Thank You for Your grace that forgives me, changes me, and gives me strength to rise again and keep following You. Amen.

I Know a Name

To everyone who has ever faced a moment when you did not know what to say, where to turn, or how things could possibly change, there is a name worth knowing. He is my hope, and I would like to remind you of Him—or perhaps introduce you to Him.

“Therefore, God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name — Philippians 2:9
________________________________________

There are names we know because of family, friendship, reputation, or history. Some names bring comfort because of the person connected to them. Others carry authority because of the position they represent.

But I know a Name unlike any other.

Jesus.

When the weight of life feels too heavy, I know a Name. When fear begins whispering that everything is going to fall apart, I know a Name. When guilt reminds me of yesterday, when grief makes tomorrow difficult to imagine, or when I simply do not know what to pray, I know a Name.

But there is something important here. The name of Jesus is not a magic word we attach to our problems to make them disappear. Its power is found in who Jesus is.

He is the One who welcomed the rejected, forgave sinners, restored the broken, and gave hope to people others had written off. He is the One who carried our sin to the cross, conquered the grave, and opened the way for us to be reconciled to God.

Scripture tells us there is salvation in no other name. That means Christianity is not ultimately about becoming good enough to reach God. It is about discovering that in Jesus, God came looking for us.

For the believer, perhaps you need to remember today who you already know. You may not know what tomorrow holds—but you know Jesus.

And if you are still seeking, questioning, or unsure what you believe, you do not have to have everything figured out before you begin turning toward Him. Start with His name. Ask Him to show you who He is. Read His words. Look at His life.

Behind the name of Jesus you will discover more than religion.
You will discover a Saviour who still welcomes people home.

Whatever you are facing today, remind yourself that even when you do not know the answer, you can know the One who walks with you through it.

There is hope in His name, grace in His presence, and an open invitation for anyone willing to turn toward Jesus.

Jesus, thank You that Your name represents everything You are—Saviour, Redeemer, Comforter, Shepherd, and Friend. When I am uncertain, afraid, weary, or searching, help me turn toward You and trust You more deeply. And for the person still discovering who You are, reveal Your love, grace, and truth in a way that draws their heart closer to You. Amen.

Let Go of the Pen

Many years ago, I heard it said, “I want God to take hold of the pen and write my story.” The words stayed with me and became the inspiration for this message.

Scripture
“Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this.” — Psalm 37:5
________________________________________

Even at our best, when we know our heavenly Father is good, faithful, and worthy of our trust, we can still find ourselves trying to write the next chapter on our own. We know He sees the end from the beginning and holds every chapter of our lives in His hands, yet we still plan, strive, worry, and sometimes force doors open because letting go of control can feel uncomfortable.

But God never asked us to carry the responsibility of knowing how the whole story will unfold. He asks us to trust His heart, follow His leading, and place the next page into His hands.

That trust is often tested most when life does not unfold as we expected. In those moments, we may be tempted to take the pen back—to rush ahead, assume the worst, or try to force an outcome because waiting on God feels frightening.

When we try to write the story ourselves, we often write from fear, impatience, or our own limited understanding. We carry questions we cannot answer and burdens we were never meant to bear.

Surrender does not mean becoming passive or refusing to make decisions. It means continuing to pray, obey, and walk faithfully while releasing our demand to control the outcome. We still take the steps God places before us, but we stop trying to make everything happen in our own strength.

If today feels uncertain, do not let fear take hold of the pen. Let faith place it back into God’s hands.

Place your future into the hands of the Author who can redeem even the chapters you would never have chosen. Some pages may be difficult, and some seasons may not make sense while you are living through them, but God will not abandon you in the middle of your story.

Let go of the pen. Trust God with what has already been written, follow Him through the chapter before you, and leave the ending in His faithful hands.

You do not need to know how every chapter will unfold; you only need to trust the One who will faithfully walk with you through each one.

Father, thank You for being good and faithful in every season. Forgive me for the times I have tried to control what I should have trusted to You. Today, I surrender my plans, fears, and future into Your loving hands. Help me to pray, obey, and follow where You lead, trusting You with every chapter still to come.

Nevertheless at Your Word

To everyone who has ever wanted to trust God completely but found that your faith was still wrestling with disappointment, uncertainty, or what you could see, this message is for you. God is not intimidated by the places where your faith is still growing; sometimes one simple step of obedience is where He begins to reveal more of Himself.

Scripture
“Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.”
But Simon answered and said to Him, “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.” — Luke 5:4–5
________________________________________

Peter knew fishing. He knew the water, the nets, and the right conditions, And he knew what an unsuccessful night looked like. He and the others had worked for hours and had nothing to show for it.

When he had all but given up, Jesus told him to go back out and lower the nets again.

Peter’s response was not overflowing with confidence. You can almost hear the weariness in his words: “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing.” Everything Peter had experienced told him there was little reason to expect anything different.

But then came the words that changed everything:
“Nevertheless at Your word…”

Peter’s faith may not have been fully caught up with what Jesus was saying, but he obeyed what he had heard.

And Jesus met him there.

The catch was so great that the net began to break and another boat had to come alongside to help. Jesus did not wait until Peter possessed flawless faith before demonstrating His power. He met imperfect faith with abundant grace.

There will be moments when we are much like Peter. We have prayed before. We have tried before. We have been disappointed before. God may be asking us to trust Him again, while everything within us remembers the empty nets of yesterday.

Faith does not always sound like, “Lord, I understand exactly what You are doing.” Sometimes faith simply says, “Nevertheless at Your word.”

Do not underestimate what God can do with a sincere step of obedience. Your faith may still be growing, but His grace is already sufficient.

Where might Jesus be asking you to trust His word even though your past experience is telling you not to expect very much?

Encouragement
You do not need perfect faith to take the next step. Bring Jesus the faith you have, obey His leading, and allow Him to show you more of who He is.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, sometimes my past disappointments speak louder than my faith, but I choose to trust Your word. Help me obey even when I do not fully understand, and by Your Holy Spirit give me the faith, peace, and courage to follow where You lead. May every step draw me closer to You and reveal more of Your grace and faithfulness. Amen.
