There are just two weeks left in Say Yes! to Kids 2026—and the Diocese of Saskatchewan needs your support.

For the third year in a row, the Diocese is raising funds for its travelling Vacation Bible School ministry, bringing faith-filled programming directly to children and youth in communities across northern Saskatchewan.

The Patronal Festival of St. Alban the Martyr (June 21st). Please join us for out 10:30 a.m. Reserved Sacrament Holy Communion Service with Rev. Deacon David Zulkoskey. As this is a special celebration, following the 10:30 a.m. service please join us downstairs for a light lunch. Please note, there is no 8:00 a.m. Holy Communion Service on the 21st.

Wednesday Holy Communion in the Chapel is on pause until September 2nd. Just a reminder, next Sunday (June 28th) will be Food Bank Sunday so please consider bringing a non-perishable food donation (or a monetary donation) for the P.A. Food Bank.

On Sunday our celebration of our faith community is two fold - first it is our patronal festival but it is also National Indigenous People’s Day. A time to honour the rich heritage, diverse cultures, and outstanding achievements of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. The cultural fabric of our faith community is diverse, vibrant and guided by the Holy Spirit. I will mention again a comment of solidarity said to me in a conversation with Lawrence Joseph about family and faith - together in our cultures, in this church we are as he said “a church family equal before God” .

The mission work we undertake must be grounded in the Holy Spirit. Our faith community in order to succeed must be a living example of God’s love, compassion and respect. Is there an agenda for this plan? But of course and it is not one of personal success and ambition, it is not a list of mission statements - it is a missional approach which is first and foremost centred in the Holy Spirit and the results will be God’s doing. Without the power of the Holy Spirit there will be no 21 century church reformation and revival.

Every time you contribute to a collection of baby clothes, school supplies for back packs, knit a prayer shawl or give soap and shower products you are making a connection with our surrounding community. It is a witness for this parish within Prince Albert. Your generosity in products or money to purchase items is a missional commitment guided by the Holy Spirit. God is our focus and compassion for ours is the profession of love for others. We are shining a light on the Cathedral. The community recipients welcome your donations with open arms. They know us and our Christian presence.

Today we recognize the idea of self sacrifice and tomorrow we must resolve to take action. It is time to literally unlock your talents and embark on building our church with renewed spirit and conviction. St Alban, England’s first martyred saint died to help another flee to safety. In his selfless act he spread the word of God. His personal conversion and willingness to face adversity defines his commitment to our Lord Jesus Christ. We are in fact all missionaries of God’s word and our tasks may differ in scope but together we are an ensemble focused on the word of God and guided by the Holy Spirit.

What is a Patronal Festival?

The festival serves as a time to give thanks for blessings, celebrate the community, and honor the patron saint. Over the past five years, as a parish we have recognized this day with visual displays and we have written about why we feel connected to this church. Our faith community is united to worship our Lord in a beautiful historic church. We are celebrating our past and building our future. Happy St Alban’s Day!

This Sunday (June 21st) is the feast of St. Alban the Martyr, and so I am providing a short history of the portrait of St. Alban which hangs in the northwest corner of the Cathedral. From the July 13, 2007 Prince Albert Daily Herald - "A rare painting in St. Alban's Cathedral has gained international attention. The painting of the English martyr, St. Alban, is now confirmed to be one of the few surviving paintings of British pre-Raphaelite artist, Kate Elizabeth Bunce. London, England-based art historian Jan Marsh, who has co-authored a book on female pre- Raphaelite artists, visited Prince Albert Monday to see the Bunce painting. Marsh said she heard about the painting through her research. St. Alban's rector's warden Fred Payton said church members thought the painting was a Kate Bunce but are glad to have it confirmed by an art historian. Marsh said her research indicated the painting was part of a triptych, or three-part painting, with Christ and two saints. Bunce never visited Canada, but Marsh believes the painting was made for the church after Bunce met someone from Prince Albert. She might have met a bishop or another clergy member from Prince Albert in England."

From the Prince Albert Daily Herald - June 4, 1917

"The formal opening of St. Alban tennis court took place Saturday afternoon. Quite a number of young people came to play the first game. Tea was served by Misses T. Strong, W. Parker, E. Clinch, and D. Strong. Among those who attended were Mrs. T.E. Parker, the Misses B. Parker, G. McDonald, J. McKay, E. Kirkbright, R. Parker, E. Parker, D. Strong, T. Strong, Rev. J. I. Strong, Rev. Mr. Macklin of Shellbrook, Mr. Shirley and B. Strong. (Canon Strong served the Cathedral for fifteen years, coming to Prince Albert in 1911. Thirteen of those years were spent as Rector of the pro-cathedral, and for two years canon residentiary of the cathedral. He was rural dean and member of all the important committees, executive and finance, of the general and provincial synods.)

Let’s Celebrate!

On Sunday June 21 at the main 10:30 a.m. service we will be celebrating our Patronal Festival! Our worship that day will recognize the structure, history and liturgical significance of our beautiful church. I invite you to reach out to parishioners that have not attended for some time and in turn invite them to be a part of our faith community. St Alban’s is more than a building, it is a worship space alive with the power of the Holy Spirit!
