Have you purchased your tickets yet? St. Alban's Cathedral is having a Turkey Fall Supper Fundraiser this Sunday (October 25th) with two sittings at 4:30 & 6:00 p.m.

Menu includes: turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, turnips, carrots, coleslaw, cranberry sauce, gravy all prepared by award-winning local chef Genalyn Dioso. An assortments of desserts from our Cathedral volunteers, and a beverage is also included in your meal!

For information on tickets and ticket purchasing, please refer to the attached picture. Tickets will also be available at the door.

St. Alban's Cathedral is located at 1410 Bishop McLean Crescent, and the meal will be upstairs in the hall (please use the white west-facing doors in the southern building of the Cathedral complex).

An Invitation to Afternoon Holy Communion

šŸ™ Sunday, October 18 at 3:00 p.m.

Join us in the Cathedral for a service of Reserved Sacrament with music, according to the Book of Common Prayer (BCP).

Come and receive the Holy Sacrament as we gather in worship and celebrate the living presence of our Lord Jesus Christ in our lives.

Please note: There will be no 8:00 a.m. service this Sunday, and the 10:30 a.m. service will be Morning Prayer.

Thank you to those who have impacted our lives.

In an age where people strive to be influencers in popular culture, we often associate the word influence with the idea of manipulating others. This is most definitely not the case in our lives of faith! We need to examine the positive impact of how we have developed in our own personal lives and our faith in God.

When you reflect upon your life, who do you credit with making a difference in your life and guiding you in your pursuit of happiness? This individual might be deceased but that does not lessen their influence upon you. My paternal grandmother Nellie (Angela) Zulkoskey taught me the value in taking the time to support family and those in need. Her gardening skills were more than simply cultivating a growing space but rather building a sustaining garden that was built on love and dedication.

Who are you thankful for in your life? This Sunday October 11 you are invited to write the name of a person that you are thankful for on the small pumpkins and gourds and place them in the thankful basket. This basket will be brought to the altar at the offertory to recognize before God these influential people and our great thanks for their role in our lives.

Let us give thanks unto the Lord.

Would you like to learn how to serve?

I will be running a one hour server training session on Saturday October 17 from 11-noon. The duties being outlined will include carrying the processional cross and the duties at the credence table. The only age limit is that you must be confirmed. This is your opportunity to fully participate at the Eucharist and assist the deacon with preparing the altar. Servers will be used in services that have a priest presiding at on Sundays at 10:30. At present there are three keen students wanting to be part of this initiative. Plenty of room for you! Either speak to me after a service, contact the parish secretary or simple arrive on the day!

Our files contain a number of old bulletins, including this one from October 7, 1956, the nineteenth Sunday after Trinity. The 11:00 am service was Choral Communion, which featured an anthem "For theF Blessing of the Fields" with soloist, Miss F. Parker. The Processional was "Praise My Soul" (353), the Offertory was "The God of Abraham Praise "(3731), tune Covenant, Communion was "O God, unseen, yet ever near" (238), tune St. Flavian, and Recessional was "Faith of our Fathers" (422), tune St. Finbar. The week's schedule was busy, with four meetings (Brownies, Layman's Supper, Girl Guides, and Bishop MacLean ACW), Wednesday had four (Matheson ACW, Brownies, Junior Choir Girls, and Cathedral Corporation), Thursday had Choir practice, and Saturday had the annual turkey dinner sponsored by the Roberta Tilton A.C.W.

SPECIAL NOTE: our annual fall supper will be Sunday, October 25, in the Cathedral Hall. Volunteers strongly encouraged to talk to Priscilla, Lori, Marlene, or the office. Tickets will be available shortly.

Prince Albert Daily Herald, April 29, 1953 - "First Anglican Missionary Mrs. Annie Brown Dies At 80"

"Mrs. Annie E. Brown, who had spent most of her long life in missionary work amongst the Indigenous people, died in a local hospital, Tuesday, April 28. She was sent out as the first Missionary of the Woman's Auxiliary, to Onion Lake Anglican Indian School, Sask. The late Rev. John R. Matheson was then principal of the school. She was married to the late Rev. James Brown, who was also a missionary. Mr. Brown was an expert carpenter and builder and helped in the building of the church at Stanley, and built a small church at Pelican Narrows. She was a constant visitor in Indigenous homes, endearing herself to the people." Archdeacon Paul officiated at Mrs. Brown's funeral, and she was buried at St. Mary's.

Thanksgiving - Expressing our Thankfulness

Sometimes I think we all tend to focus on the negative. It doesnā€™t matter what the topic is, whether it be the weather, the economy, church attendance and dare I say politics! I have mentioned several times over the past 18 months about the thankfulness papers and their importance in our focus in worship. Thank you to those of you who take a moment and write something down. I am amused as a few people ponder the papers and the items prior to the start of the service but do not actually write something down. I encourage you to go one step further and write something! As we approach the Thanksgiving long weekend take the opportunity to reflect upon and identify the good things that you are experiencing. Remember as they say in church - all things come of thee, and of thine own have we given thee.
