Jesus tells parables to help us to catch on to what God is truly like. He uses familiar and everyday experiences, but then turns everything upside down with a surprising twist. We go away surprised, shocked, perhaps happy that God’s style is so different to our way of thinking and acting.

The audience will expect to hear the Pharisee praised, but Jesus has God standing up for the despised, the sinner, the one who fails to keep the Law. He shows that God is full of compassion, cares about the suffering of the outcast and sees the grain of honesty and goodness hidden in the human heart. This tax collector is humble; unlike the Pharisee, he begs for the mercy and pardon that he does not deserve.

This weekend at Mass, try to pray the tax-collector’s prayer - ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’ You will discover a privileged place in God’s heart. There you find God, and God finds you.

Our Society of St. Vincent de Paul launched a campaign to collect used eyeglasses over the Summer. We are happy to announce that we collected 60 pair of eye glasses. Thank you everyone for your generosity, you have helped someone out there see better. Your used glasses mean a lot to many in the developing nations, because they simply cannot afford the corrective eyeglasses. They can't learn, because reading is difficult. They can't work to the best of their ability, because they can't see clearly. For children, clear vision means a better education, healthier development and a better quality of life. For adults, it means greater employment opportunity and economic strength. For seniors it means less dependence on others.

Once again, thank you!

St. Joseph's Parish 1912 - 2022

Did you know that the history of Catholicism in Port Moody dates back to 1900 with just two Catholic families?

Did you know that our parish has helped establish other Catholic communities and is “the mother parish” of two nearby churches - All Saints (1961) and St. Clare of Assisi (1999)?

Thank you everyone for the tremendous support to our 110th Anniversary Celebration Dinner.

The door will be open at 4:00pm, and we encourage you to come on-time so that you won’t be missing out on any of the programs. As you arrive, please kindly approach the registration desk and let the lovely volunteers know your name (thus no actual ticket is required) to complete the registration process and they will find your table number. Greeters are then ready to show you where the table is.

Then it is time to sit back and relax, or greet and mingle with other parishioners and our guests of honor; Archbishop Michael Miller, CSB and some of our former Pastors after all this is an important celebration of our parish, let’s rejoice!

Two more sleeps to Sunday, October 16, 2022, see you there!

In Jesus’ time, a widow had no support unless she had adult sons to help her. Here the widow goes directly to the judge. The judge, an unpleasant character, ignores her for a long time but she persists in her pursuit for justice and he finally gives in. The parable is an invitation to us to persist in prayer especially in times of difficulties. We however, approach a loving Father, ready to listen to us and we are invited to come with calm assurance. Jesus tells us not to give up or lose heart.

Thank you!

Meet Celine. She is 3 years young. This sweet little girl came with her parents, uncle and grandparents to clean the church. She loves to sing; so far she mastered one Holy Spirit song, three Marian songs and one Gratitude song. At Mass if you hear a sweet angelic voice sings along the Gospel Acclamation - 'Alleluia', that is Celine. Her love to music shows when she picked the area of the church to clean - the Choir Loft. Thank you little Celine, we pray that you may grow to love God more and more.
