ST. COLUMBA IN KOREA | Part 2 🌿
Walking and praying for peace
As part of the International Ecumenical Peace Convocation in Seoul, the Rev. Lara Scholey joined participants in a peace walk along the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone).
Along the way, the group heard stories from a poet and from people who continue to farm and live in villages close to the border. The walk took place about 5.5 km from the actual border, in an area that remains heavily guarded.
At the end of the walk, participants looked across toward the mountains of North Korea — a powerful reminder of a land that remains divided.
“Prayers for peace in this troubled, divided land.” 💛
The journey also included a visit to the National Korean Democracy Museum, where Lara learned more about the struggles of journalists and student protesters during the 1970s and 1980s.
Moments like these remind us that peace is not only something we hope for. It is something people continue to seek, work toward, and pray for.

ST. COLUMBA IN KOREA | Part 1 🌏
Connections across the global church
Looking back on the Rev. Lara Scholey’s September visit to South Korea, we give thanks for the connections made across the wider Presbyterian and ecumenical church.
From September 8–20, Lara travelled to Korea in her role as Moderator of The Presbyterian Church in Canada, together with Carl Adams and Lily Ko of International Ministries.
One significant moment was the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Korea (PCK), where Lara had the opportunity to bring greetings to a gathering of approximately 1,500 participants.
Her time in Korea also included the International Ecumenical Peace Convocation, offering opportunities to meet, listen to, and learn from church leaders and ecumenical partners from around the world.
These encounters remind us that the church reaches far beyond any one congregation. Across cultures and traditions, we are connected by faith and by opportunities to listen, learn, and seek together what it means to live faithfully in our world. 💛
Over the next few posts, we’ll share more from Lara’s visit — including the Peace Convocation, a peace walk near the DMZ, and a visit to historic Saemoonan Presbyterian Church.

A colorful day at Kid’s Club! 🎨
At our last Kid’s Club gathering, the children explored the story of Joseph and his coat of many colors — and then gave it a sweet and creative twist!
Using graham crackers, icing and Fruit Loops, they made their own “coats of many colors” to take home and enjoy.
A Bible story, some creativity, and a little something sweet made for a joyful time together. 💛
Kid’s Club meets on the second and last Sunday of every month during worship at 10:00 a.m.

A wonderful evening at St. Columba by-the-Lake. 💛
Thank you to everyone who joined us for our special evening with Ruth Harvey, leader of the Iona Community.
It was a meaningful time of conversation, reflection, and song, and we were grateful to share in the Iona Community’s rich tradition of creative worship, peace, justice, and the rebuilding of community.
