Venerable Kalsang oversaw our annual lobster release last week. Many lucky lobster were placed back in the Atlantic, safe from fishing for at least one year. May they be well! Helping out were temporary monk Norbu, Druppon Nancy, Chelsea (our new 3 year retreat cook) and Capt. Mark.

Special Announcement - A New Collaboration
Gampo Abbey and the Dharmata Foundation are pleased to announce that Gampo Abbey is to be part of the Dharmata Hermitage Project started by Anam Thubten. In Canada, Rinpoche has given the project the name, Kadak Dzong (Fortress of Original Purity). It is part of Rinpoche's vision for establishing the Dudjom Lingpa lineage in Canada. The heart of Kadak Dzong, and the hermitage project in general, is to encourage people to do deep practice.

Ani Pema Chodron, Abbess of Gampo Abbey, and Anam Thubten Rinpoche, spiritual advisor of Dharmata Foundation, have given their blessings and encouragement to their communities to collaborate to offer and support individual and group retreats at Gampo Abbey under the guidance and oversight of Anam Thubten Rinpoche.

The initial stage of the Kadak Dzong project is to encourage practitioners to use the hermitage environment of Gampo Abbey to do solitary and group retreats, and even consider temporary monasticism. In providing opportunities for intensive practice and study, this new collaboration will include a focus on the Dudjom Lingpa lineage of Dharmata Foundation, while also honoring the braided lineage and monastic core so well established at Gampo Abbey.

In talking to the Gampo Abbey community recently, Rinpoche said "Places like Gampo Abbey are sanctuaries, like spiritual fortresses for those who want to be in touch with their inner silence, in touch with their own Buddha nature. I feel there are lots of blessings at Gampo Abbey because there were so many wonderful Dharma teachers that came, and it was built with the blessings of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, a great Mahasiddha. There is a saying in Tibet, first people bless the land and then the land blesses the people."
