“God’s message, the God who created the cosmos, stretched out the skies, laid out the earth and all that grows from it, Who breathes life into earth’s people, makes them alive with God’s own life: I am God. That’s my name.”

🙏 It is Monday of Holy Week. I meditated on today’s scripture while creating this scribble-drawing with pencil crayons. I simply scribbled across the page with a pen, then coloured in the spaces to make this picture. These words above are excerpts from Isaiah 42, from The Message translation of the bible (with pronouns slightly adapted by me.)

It feels good to slow down, to walk, in this holy time, toward the cross and toward Easter. May you and yours make time to be holy in your own way this week too. 🙏 Peace be with you.

Way to go Dorothy and church!

Dorothy Harrison braved the icy roads this week to bring in a donation from the Cressy Glenora United Church. This donation was in memory of Marilyn Schamerhorn, who was a strong supporter of the PEC Angel Tree. Thank you!!

Dear Friends and Neighbours,
This Sunday, we begin our Advent journey toward the manger in Bethlehem. We light a candle each week--candles of HOPE, PEACE, LOVE and JOY--to prepare ourselves for the arrival of our ancient baby brother on Christmas morning.

This Sunday we light the candle of HOPE. The flickering flame of HOPE shines brightly into the dark and shadowy places of our lives and our world. The candle of HOPE exposes suffering, injustice and the need to hold those in power to accountability. In faith, we believe in the power and promise of living with HOPE--not apathy, not avoidance, not despair--but HOPE! The Gospel of John said it beautifully with these poetic words: "The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it."

May we all let the goodness and courage in our hearts glow a little brighter this Advent season. And may we be inspired to work with HOPE together in generosity, courage and goodwill toward all.

With Advent blessings, from your community minister,
Rev. Aaron

Dear Friends and Neighbours,
It is a nice time of year for taking walks and breathing in the autumn air. Slow, regular breathing helps us to be mindful of the world around us and to the Spirit of God within us.

The author Thomas Hawkins in his book "Every Step A Prayer" wrote, The air we breathe has been around for a long time, cycling between lungs and leaves for thousands of years. When we inhale, we breathe in our connection to everything in God's beautiful, complex world. When we exhale, we give back to the world air transformed in the depths of our own being. Our awareness of this rhythm helps us recognize how interdependent we are with the world around us.

On our walks or quiet moments of stillness, friends, may we simply breathe and simply be.

In peace, from your community minister,
Rev. Aaron

LEST WE FORGET
On November 11th 2025, our church laid a wreath at the Picton Cenotaph in remembrance of those fallen in WWI and WWII. We prayed for God's promised day that "war will be no more." We will remember them.

Dear Ghouls and Goblins,
Happy Halloween! It's time for costumes and masks, pumpkins and candy! I have childhood memories--and perhaps you do too-- of being on the loose in the neighbourhood with a old pillow case for collecting chocolates, apples, candy and the occassion toothbrush. (GROAN!) We also had orange Unicef boxes hanging around our necks, jingling with loose coins we'd collect at each stop. All us kids loved dressing up and being "completely unrecognizable" (*wink wink*) to our parents and teachers. We weren't just dressed in costumes, we BECAME vampires, robots, superheroes, ghosts, princesses and witches for one ghoulishly fun day!

There's this dusty old book I like to read. In it, is encouragement to become someone new too through a kind of dress-up. "Put on the armour of God," it says. But this isn't armour for a physical battle. It is a spiritual garment of peace, strength and endurance in the face of hard times. It says,

"Stand, therefore, and belt your waist with truth and put on the breastplate of righteousness and lace up your sandals in preparation for the gospel of peace. With all of these, take the shield of faith, with which you will be able to quench all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God."

So, if you don't know what to wear this Halloween, might I suggest you clothe yourself in these things. No tricks. Just peace and the power of the Spirit to transform the world for the benefit of all God's children.

From your community minister,
Rev. Aaron

CALL OUT FOR SINGERS for JOINT CHRISTMAS CHOIR
Do you like to sing? Do you like to ring bells and chimes? A fun joint Christmas choir is being formed for folks in North and South Marysburgh, Prince Edward County!

Choir practices will be Sunday mornings in November before or after worship (8:30am at South Bay and 11:45am at Cressy Glenora). The song will be “A Candle is Burning” from the United Church hymn book (to the familiar tune of Away in a Manger).

We'll have three "performances." First, at the Community Christmas Carol Concert at Picton United on Sunday, Dec 7th (6:30pm). Our song will also be on the “Celebrate Christmas” Radio Program on 99.3 CountyFM. And, for those who are able, we’ll sing at Black River Chapel Christmas Eve Service (Dec 24th at 7pm).

Singers of all levels welcome. Please let me know if you and yours are interested in having some fun making a joyful noise this for the people of God!!
