Sometimes thankfulness comes easily. Other times, we have to look back and remember how God has carried us through.

That was part of our Thanksgiving celebration today. We thanked God for the many blessings in our lives, but also for His faithfulness in the seasons that haven’t been easy.

Thank you to Dawn, Keisha and Sarah for being willing to share your stories with us. We need to hear each other’s testimonies. They remind us that God is at work in real lives, through real struggles, and that our stories can encourage someone else to keep trusting Him.

And thank you to Pastor Jani for challenging us to think about contentment and what it means to be satisfied in Christ, regardless of our circumstances.

Lots to think about. Lots to be thankful for.

Church looked a little different today because we had our potluck—and it was a huge success!

Thank you to everyone who made it possible: those who took care of all the important planning details, helped set up and take down, handled the food today and brought a dish to share.

The table was filled with so many delicious options: macaroni and cheese, shepherd’s pie, homemade soup, chicken biryani, curry, marry me lentils, pizza, salads and so much more. There was even a table packed with drinks and desserts!

But the best part wasn’t the food. It was the time we shared together.

We enjoyed sitting together and catching up, playing games and getting to know new faces. Meals have a way of bringing people together, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to share one as a church family.

Pastor Jani also took advantage of the table situation during our service and gave us many opportunities to share together and reflect on how the Word for the day connected to our lives. It was a fresh way to experience a sermon—one that invited us not only to listen, but also to participate, reflect and learn from one another.

Here’s an idea: why not invite someone over for dinner next month? We may not have a potluck, but sharing a meal with your church family is always a great idea!

Connor was walking through the parking lot this morning carrying two chairs.

It might have looked a little odd, but it’s actually a pretty common sight.

These chairs have been holding people up for decades. They’ve held people on Sunday mornings as we worshipped together, during Bible studies and kids ministry, at countless lunches and dinners, and through weddings and funerals.

They’ve been part of a lot of ministry.

And sometimes, they break.

When they do, Connor takes them home, welds them back together and brings them back to church. It’s a quiet ministry that most people will never notice, but it matters.

Thank you, Connor.

And thank you to the many people in our church who serve in ways that often go unseen. Those who pray faithfully. Cook a meal for someone who is sick. Visit those who can’t get out. Cut the grass. Change the sign. Set up a room. Fix what’s broken. Show up when someone needs help.

Not every ministry happens from a platform. Your service matters, and we’re grateful for you.

Our Fall Potluck is coming up!

If you’re new to potlucks, everyone brings a dish to share, we put it all together, and enjoy a meal as a church family.

Not sure what to bring? Salads, meat, pasta dishes and casseroles are always great. The kids (and, well, everyone!) loved the pizza and chicken nuggets last time. Brownies, cookies and pies are popular too!

The sign-up sheet is now open in the foyer. Add your name and let us know what you’re bringing.

One year together!

It’s been one year since we came together as one church, and God has been good.

There is so much to celebrate. We’re grateful for the ways God has been at work among us, for the relationships that have grown, and for all He has ahead for our church family.

Join a Connect Group. Because we weren’t meant to grow in faith alone.

This morning we were reminded from Hebrews 10:24–25 that following Jesus includes meeting together, encouraging one another and motivating each other toward love and good works.

That’s why Connect Groups matter. We need relationships with other believers as we grow in our faith.

Church was never meant to be a Sunday-only thing.

We need people to learn with, pray with, encourage and walk alongside as we follow Jesus.

Connect Groups are a place to build those relationships. We gather in smaller groups to study Scripture, pray, share life and help one another grow as disciples of Jesus.

This Sunday, we’ll be sharing more about Connect Groups and how you can get connected. There’s a place for you.

These little feet have a lot of growing and walking ahead of them. Our prayer is that they will always walk with Jesus.

This past Sunday we had the joy of dedicating five children to Jesus. Their parents committed to raising them to know and follow Christ, and our church committed to come alongside them in that calling.

Pastor Jani reminded us that dedication is about blessing, belonging and becoming: blessing each child and recognizing they are a blessing from God, giving them a church where they know they belong, and helping them become more like Jesus.

May these little feet follow Jesus all their days, and may we faithfully help show them the way.

In 1978, a small group stepped out in faith from Kennedy Road Church of the Nazarene to plant what became Altona Church of the Nazarene. They gave sacrificially of their time, skills, prayers, and resources to build a church where people could know Jesus. Many taught children, served their neighbours, and even helped build this church - brick by brick - with their own hands.

Then, in 2015, Rosewood Church of the Nazarene planted Connect Church of the Nazarene in Ajax. Meeting first in a movie theatre, Connect was founded with the same heart: helping people connect with Jesus and grow as His disciples, together.

In 2025, those two stories became one as Altona and Connect united to become Altona Connect Church. Today, we continue that shared legacy as a Bible-based, family-oriented, multigenerational church serving Durham Region.

Recently, Pastor Jani found this hand-drawn sketch of the original church and framed it to keep on his desk. It's a reminder that we're building on the prayers, sacrifices, and faithfulness of those who came before us.

This Sunday we'll be dedicating several babies and children to the Lord.

In the Church of the Nazarene, child dedication is more than a promise made by parents. It's a commitment made by the whole church family. Together, we promise to pray for these children, encourage their families, and help them grow to know and follow Jesus.

We hope you'll join us this Sunday as we celebrate these families and make this commitment together.
