Blessing for the Beginning of the New Academic Year
“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved… rightly handling the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15
On Wednesday, September 30, 2026, His Eminence Archbishop Apostolos of Canada celebrated the Service of the Blessing of the Waters for the beginning of the new academic year at the Patriarchal Orthodox Theological Academy of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Canada.
His Grace Bishop Athenagoras of Patara, Director of the Academy, participated in the service. Faculty members and students were also present, together with the President of the National Philoptochos of the Archdiocese.
His Eminence offered his paternal wishes to the students for a blessed and fruitful academic year. He emphasized that theological education is not simply the acquisition of knowledge. It is a journey of faith, spiritual formation, and preparation for service to the Church.
“I pray that this new academic year will be filled with the grace and illumination of God. May you advance in knowledge while growing in faith, humility, and love. Theological knowledge becomes truly fruitful when it is accompanied by prayer and transformed into service to the Church and to our fellow human beings.”
Archbishop Apostolos also referred with respect and gratitude to his predecessor, His Eminence Archbishop Sotirios, former Archbishop of Canada, who founded and supported the Theological Academy for many years. His Eminence expressed his commitment to continuing and strengthening its mission so that it may remain a place of theological education, ecclesiastical formation, and preparation for future service in the Church.
In closing, Archbishop Apostolos thanked His Grace Bishop Athenagoras and the faculty for their ministry and dedicated service. He offered his prayers for the entire academic community, wishing everyone health, strength, and the abundant blessing of God throughout the new academic year.

Αγιασμός για την έναρξη του νέου ακαδημαϊκού έτους

Την Τετάρτη, 30 Σεπτεμβρίου 2026, ο Σεβασμιώτατος Αρχιεπίσκοπος Καναδά κ. Απόστολος τέλεσε τον Αγιασμό για την έναρξη του νέου ακαδημαϊκού έτους της Πατριαρχικής Ορθοδόξου Θεολογικής Ακαδημίας της Ιεράς Αρχιεπισκοπής Καναδά.
Στην Ακολουθία συμμετείχε ο Θεοφιλέστατος Επίσκοπος Πατάρων κ. Αθηναγόρας, Διευθυντής της Ακαδημίας. Παρέστησαν επίσης οι καθηγητές και οι φοιτητές, καθώς και η Πρόεδρος της Εθνικής Φιλοπτώχου της Ιεράς Αρχιεπισκοπής.
Ο Σεβασμιώτατος ευχήθηκε στους φοιτητές ένα ευλογημένο και καρποφόρο ακαδημαϊκό έτος. Τόνισε ότι η θεολογική παιδεία δεν είναι μόνο απόκτηση γνώσεων. Είναι πορεία πίστεως, πνευματικής καλλιέργειας και προετοιμασίας για τη διακονία της Εκκλησίας.
«Εύχομαι η νέα ακαδημαϊκή χρονιά να είναι γεμάτη από τη χάρη και τον φωτισμό του Θεού. Να προοδεύετε στη γνώση και συγχρόνως να αυξάνεστε στην πίστη, στην ταπείνωση και στην αγάπη. Η θεολογική γνώση γίνεται καρποφόρα όταν συνοδεύεται από προσευχή και μεταμορφώνεται σε διακονία προς την Εκκλησία και τον άνθρωπο.»
Ο Αρχιεπίσκοπος αναφέρθηκε με σεβασμό και ευγνωμοσύνη στον προκάτοχό του, Σεβασμιώτατο πρώην Αρχιεπίσκοπο Καναδά κ. Σωτήριο, ο οποίος ίδρυσε και επί σειρά ετών στήριξε τη Θεολογική Ακαδημία. Εξέφρασε την πρόθεσή του να συνεχίσει και να ενισχύσει την αποστολή της, ώστε να παραμένει χώρος θεολογικής παιδείας, εκκλησιαστικού ήθους και προετοιμασίας των αυριανών στελεχών της Εκκλησίας.
Τέλος, ευχαρίστησε τον Θεοφιλέστατο Επίσκοπο Πατάρων κ. Αθηναγόρα και τους καθηγητές για τη διακονία και την προσφορά τους. Ευχήθηκε σε ολόκληρη την ακαδημαϊκή κοινότητα υγεία, δύναμη και πλούσια την ευλογία του Θεού κατά το νέο ακαδημαϊκό έτος.
