Red Cross NEEDS Blood!!

Right now, donation appointments are being cancelled, fewer people are giving, and hospitals across Canada continue to rely on a steady supply of blood every day. There is an immediate need for donors of all blood types, and every appointment booked now helps ensure patients receive the care they depend on.

Only about two per cent of eligible people in Canada donate blood, yet demand continues every day for cancer treatments, surgeries, trauma care, childbirth and unexpected emergencies. When fewer people donate, it becomes more difficult to keep pace with patient needs.

If you already have an appointment, thank you. Please keep it if you can. If your plans have changed, cancel your appointment as soon as possible so another donor can take your place, then rebook for another day. Better yet, make an even bigger impact by booking a group donation with friends, family or colleagues. Together, we can encourage more people to donate and help meet the immediate need for blood this summer.
There are currently 50 open appointments at the scheduled blood drive at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 244 on Monday August 24th – help us fill each and every appointment!

When we talk about the 15 units at 63 Halton Street, we aren’t just talking about construction milestones, square footage, or energy metrics. We are talking about stability, safety, and peace of mind.

For a parent, it means knowing their children have a permanent, quiet place to do their homework. For an individual with mobility needs, our ground-floor accessible units mean living with independence and dignity. For everyone moving in this fall, it means relief from the stress of housing insecurity.

It is with sadness that we share the news of Alan Preston’s death. At the age of almost 97, Alan died very early Monday morning (August 10) suddenly and peacefully after a very brief illness. Alan was an active member of St. James the Apostle, Perth, but some may know him from his dedication and service in the Diocese of Ottawa on Diocesan Council and on the Postulancy Committee. Alan was a pioneer in the Psychiatric realm and a man of great faith and dedication. He is survived by his wife, Mary, and their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends and larger circle of family.

A celebration of his life will be held at St. James on Monday, August 17th at 10:30am with a reception and light refreshments following the service.

Rest eternal grant unto Alan, O Lord,
and let Your perpetual light shine upon him.
May Alan's soul and the souls of all the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

At 63 Halton Street, we’re creating 15 permanent, accessible, and energy-efficient homes for local families. But this project is about so much more than brick and mortar, it's about making sure every neighbour has a safe place to rest, grow, and belong.
