God’s Kitchen is very sad to announce that one of our faithful leaders at God’s Kitchen graduated to heaven.
Bruce Fidler was a wonderful presence for the street family and volunteers. He actively participated in serving, praying, baptizing, leading, counseling and being part of the leadership team.
One memory in particular was when we moved into our new location, downtown Penticton.
The first two weeks of opening we had every kind of spiritual attack in ways we had never ever had before. Prayer was always enough and people had great respect the decade prior. We never needed any kind of security.
But suddenly, drugs on the table, people running around the building on other levels, fighting. To the point we needed a debriefing to address all the volunteers fears and frustrations and come up with solutions or decide to close for the safety of our volunteers.
Well my first thought was that we needed to pray through the building from one corner to the other. So that’s what our leadership team did and I asked Bruce Fidler to lead it.
I will never forget that morning at about 7 am. Bruce rode up on his motorcycle and we began to pray. You could tangibly feel the heaviness/darkness we all felt, lift. It never returned and we never had any chaos like that ever again.
