Brothers & sisters in Christ,
Our Lenten journey is complete and now we turn our attention to the Easter Triduum.
Holy Thursday - Jesus' final night on earth....what did Jesus do? He gathered together his closest friends for the Last Supper. It is, for us, the first day of the Easter Triduum and is one of our most sacred days. Not only does Jesus transform the Passover meal, he institutes the Sacrament of the Eucharist and the Priesthood. He also washes the feet of his Apostles, a reminder to us of humility and service. Perhaps your prayer today can be one of thanksgiving for the gift of the Priesthood and the gift of Jesus himself in the Eucharist. Only one Mass can be celebrated on this day - usually in the evening, and for us at 7:00 pm (this year at St. Ann’s). It is a holy day, come to Mass and pray with Jesus as we recall his last night on earth. Spend time with Jesus in Holy Adoration before the Altar of Repose anytime after Mass and up to midnight.
Good Friday - the day of the final breath of our Saviour. The second day of the Triduum. Jesus was tortured for love of us. We call this day Good Friday, because this unimaginable suffering brought us our salvation. We are never alone in our personal sufferings, he is always with us. We invite you, if you are able, to come to the Good Friday Service and experience for yourself the silence, the sadness and glory and true meaning at the Cross, and the meaning of it all in the light of what is to come. Seek solitude and silence and prayer, especially between 12:00 pm and 3:00 pm (the time Jesus hung on the Cross for us). Our Good Friday services are at 12:00pm at St. Ann’s and 3:00pm at St. John Vianney. Both services are preceded 1 hour before by the Stations of the Cross and the first day of the Divine Mercy Novena.
Holy Saturday - a day of emptiness and darkness, a day without Jesus. It is our preparation day for the joy of Easter. Perhaps on this day, we can reflect on what are you feeling on this day? Fear? Loneliness? Emptiness? Anxiety? Take all this to our Lord and offer it to him in prayer. Trust in Him. Have faith in Him.
The Easter Vigil - the third day of the Triduum. This is the most holy of all holy nights! The Easter Vigil looks to the Resurrection of our Lord and Saviour. It ushers in His glorious triumph over death, fear, loneliness, emptiness and anxiety. It also brings sure and true joy, expectation and the life giving Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Eucharist to our RCIA candidates who have been longing for this moment of personal encounter with Him. There is no greater joy than this most Holy night! We invite you to pray for an open heart and soul so you can receive Jesus into your very being. Our Easter Vigil begins at 7:30pm at St. John Vianney.
Easter Sunday - He is Risen! You will find him looking for you! Shout Alleluia from the mountain tops and as you may be celebrating the coming of the Easter Bunny with your family - also celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord and Saviour! He is Risen - for our salvation! In Him, through Him, we have eternal life. Ignite my faith in you, O Lord, help me to bring you to my family, my workplace, my home and to all those I love. Easter Sundays Masses are at 9:00am at St. John Vianney and then at 11:00am & 6:00pm at St. Ann’s.
God Bless!
