We join with Anglicans and other Christians around the world to mark the Season of Creation.

Caring for creation is an integral part of Anglican mission.

During the Season of Creation, Christians around the world celebrate God as Creator and reflect on our shared calling to care for all that God has made.

For Anglicans, this calling is expressed in the Fifth Mark of Mission:

‘To strive to safeguard the integrity of creation, and sustain and renew the life of the earth.’

Added to the Marks of Mission by the Anglican Consultative Council in 1990, the Fifth Mark recognises care for creation as part of the Church's mission and our faithfulness to God as Creator.

Across the Anglican Communion, this is being lived out through prayer, advocacy and practical action in response to climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution.

Season of Creation GREEN Anglicans

The Feast of the Creator opens the Season of Creation with worship that turns attention to God’s work in creation. Rooted for centuries in Orthodox tradition, the feast has become the focus of a wider ecumenical movement, embraced by many churches seeking a shared liturgical expression of God as Creator.

Resources for the Feast of the Creator, authorized for trial use by the Council of the General Synod earlier this year, are available at https://www.anglican.ca/resources/feast-of-the-creator/.

1 September marks the beginning of the Season of Creation and is observed by many Christians as Creation Day, or the Feast of Creation in Christ.

The celebration has ancient roots. Since the seventh century, 1 September has been associated with the creation of the world in the Byzantine Christian tradition and marks the beginning of its liturgical year.

In 2026, the Feast of Creation in Christ was officially added to the Revised Common Lectionary. It may be celebrated on 1 September or the first Sunday in September, which falls on 6 September this year. The Feast invites Christians to celebrate God as Creator and reflect on the mystery of creation through Christ.
