Thank you to everyone who supported our Mt. Zion United Church food drive. Our Lent and Easter drive produced almost 200 pounds of food for the Petawawa Pantry Food Bank. Our next drive will support the St. Joseph's Food Bank.

Loving God, we pray for your blessings upon all our food drive donors.

We pray for your blessings upon the volunteers of the Petawawa Pantry.

We pray that you rain down blessings of safety, security and hope upon each and every guest of the Petawawa Pantry Food Bank.

And God of all our days, inspire us and help us create a world where food banks are no longer needed - where nobody goes to bed hungry or in want.

I pray in the holy name of Jesus the Christ, Amen.

"...Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord..." Ephesians 5:19

With all the high drama and deep emotion of the Last Supper, we often forget a key aspect of this life-changing event.

Scriptures record that following the revelation of his betrayal, following his final teaching and following the poignant and spiritually groundbreaking sharing of bread and wine, the Last Supper ended, "When they had sung a hymn, [and] went out to the Mount of Olives." Matthew 27:30 As he was approaching the cross and his passion, Jesus did so with music in his heart.

Music is not just nice to have. It is an essential expression of the praise and worship we bring to God. Music touches our hearts, and in doing so, amplifies our praise and worship of the one who sang as he prepared to bring us final victory over sin and death.

Today's Memory Verse: "Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one." Deuteronomy 6:4.

This the foundational declaration for our Christian walk - and for all the Judaic religions.

There are not multiple gods. There are no shrines or sculptures or images that are God. There is only one God, the creator of all things. He is the Great IAM, so powerful and majestic he declares, "Heaven is my throne and earth is my footstool." (Isaiah 66: 1)

And yet this dynamic and all powerful creator climbed down from his throne and walked among us, with compassion and caring and grace and love. Praise be to the one and only God!

Today's Memory Verse: "And in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit...and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams..." Acts 2: 17

Sometimes when people ask us why we believe in Jesus, we struggle to find an answer. Sometimes we simply rely on the fact we grew up believing in him.

But the prophets show us the way! And they did so with amazing accuracy, hundreds and even thousands of years before Jesus arrived among us. I was a news reporter when I gave my life to Christ. Reporters are dedicated to facts. And my study of Old Testament prophecies satisfied my need for factual proof of Jesus as Messiah.

When people ask why you believe in Jesus, you can tell them it was not a random event. You can tell them it is not just a myth, or a tall tale. You can tell people;
the birth,
life,
ministry,
death,
and the resurrection
of Jesus the Christ, Jesus the anointed one,
was all foretold in the Bible, hundreds and thousands of years before it all transpired. Praise be to God!

Today's memory verse: "Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me." Revelation 5:20

Jesus is the cornerstone of God’s plan for each and every one of us – the plan to overcome our sinful humanity and find comfort, rest and peace through a close, personal relationship with Jesus.
On the cross - and in the empty tomb - God’s plan was carried out. And that personal relationship with Jesus, God come to earth, is the the ultimate result. All we need to do is embrace God's plan. Jesus says, I stand at the door and knock. Have you answered?
