It is with great sadness that the family of Jill Durant Greenham (Baxter) are announcing her death at Hospice Halifax on September 30th, 2026.
Jill will be remembered always by her husband Terry (John Terrence), daughter Nancy (Iona), son Peter (Terrence) Greenham and four grandchildren Ryan (Terrence), Tyler (Skye), Lexie (Juliana) Greenham and Paige (Iona Phoebe) Kash. Jill was predeceased by parents Reginald and Iona Baxter.
Jill was a loving mother, grandmother, and wife who worked tirelessly for her family and went to great efforts to make her family events and celebrations memorable beyond words. Spending time watching her grandchildren grow meant the world to her. She was an amazing and gifted cook and made wonderful cakes and pies. Jill has been known by many names in her life: “Mum” or “Gran” to some, the “Doughnut Queen”, “Polly Pigtail”, the “Boss” or “my friend” to others. But regardless of which name, Jill was always loving, generous, kind, true and reliable to her word, and devoted to her family.
Jill cherished time with family and friends at the family cottage in the town of Parrsboro, Nova Scotia. Jill spent many summers there with her mother Iona (Gertrude) and sister Beverly (Ann) so they could continue to enjoy the social life of Parrsboro and live “the good life on 1st beach” as long as possible. She nurtured, planted and kept numerous beautiful flower gardens and planted many trees on the cottage property, to be enjoyed for years to come.
After getting married and having their first child, Nancy in Halifax, Nova Scotia they moved in the late 1960s to Ottawa, Ontario where they had their second child, Peter where they raised their two children at their home on Belgrave Rd. Jill also went on to a successful career as a Travel Agent in Ottawa. Jill loved to travel and throughout her career, travelled to many exotic destinations around the world, both as a travel agent or as a tourist vacationing with her husband. In 1999, Jill and Terry moved to their current home in Bedford, N.S.
Jill was a 60 year member of the sisterhood of Beta Sigma Phi sorority in Ottawa and Halifax where she made dear friends and shared events and celebrations with them. Jill was also a patron of the arts, enjoying chamber music in Halifax and the various productions at the Ship’s Company Theatre aboard the “Kipawo” in Parrsboro. Jill was a dedicated volunteer at food kitchens in Halifax, feeding those in need at Saint George’s “Round” church and Souls Harbour Rescue Mission. Jill was a person with a smile for all and a compassion for life.
In retirement, she was an avid quilter, active bridge player, and played Mah Jongg games with many friends. Whether it was having lunch with friends at local restaurants, or volunteering in community events or spending time with family, Jill and Terry mixed their lives into the Maritimes and made many happy memories together throughout the years.

403 Upper Main St, Parrsboro, Nova Scotia
All are welcome to attend a graveside committal service at the Parrsboro United Cemetery immediately following the service at Smith’s Funeral Home on Saturday.
Memorial donations in Jill's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Souls Harbour Rescue Mission, Ship's Company Theatre or to a charity of your choice.
