As we gather for worship on the Second Sunday after Pentecost

Our guilt and shame leads us to cover ourselves up—to hide from others. It happens in our relationship with God too! We use any excuse,
argument, or mechanism we can think of to insist that everything’s fine, there are no problems, nothing to see here! Thankfully, God sees through our pretending. He knows the real score. And (get this) he calls us to trust him and follow him anyway. That was true for Abraham…
Israel… and Matthew. Now it’ s true for us. Come, let us worship him.

As we gather for worship on Trinity Sunday

The doctrine of the Trinity is complicated, no question. It took the church hundreds of years to figure out how the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are related to each other. But our trust in the Trinity is pretty straightforward. We serve God the Father, who created us. We receive his
forgiveness and love through God the Son—Jesus, our Saviour. And we come to know and
believe this through God the Holy Spirit. So, doctrine and life, teaching and faith. Lots to think about… savour… take in… reflect on… and be thankful for, this Sunday!

Readings:
Genesis 1:1-2:4a
Acts 2:14a, 22-36
Matthew 28:16-2

Music:
Holy, Holy, Holy
King of Kings Come,

As we gather for worship on “the Sunday of the Ascension Of Our Lord”

Life is tiring. We tend to get worn-down gradually over time, with sudden shocks draining us still more. No wonder it’s so common for us to feel exhausted and at the end of our rope!
None of that, though, is anything new. Our Christian ancestors felt the same. And before he
ascended into heaven, Jesus recognized that all of his disciples were going to need periodic
boosts. That’s why he promised to send the Holy Spirit—to charge their spiritual batteries
regularly. So even as we remember Jesus’ departure, this Sunday of the Ascension, we also anticipate the coming of the Holy Spirit, which we remember next Sunday (Pentecost).

Readings:
Acts 1:1-11 1
Peter 4:12-19, 5:6-11
Luke 24:44-53

Music:

As we gather for worship this Sixth Sunday of Easter “Don’t dawdle!” Maybe we heard that, often, as kids. “Don’t miss out!” Well, that’s God’s message to the world. “Don’t off until tomorrow what you can do today!” In particular, God wants us to turn to him in repentance and faith. Stop being distracted by trivial things… and start paying attention to what lasts forever. Stop focusing so much on ourselves… start
focusing more on Him, and others. As this Easter season comes close to its close, we are
reminded that “Now is the time of God’s favour; now is the day of salvation!” (2 Cor 6:2)

As we gather for worship this Third Sunday of Easter

Wouldn’t it be great if Jesus could come along with us every day? Just think-- he would be instantly available to answer all our questions and help with all our problems. Physically, of course, that isn’t going to happen. It did happen to two of Jesus’ disciples one day not long after he rose from the dead, and we’ll be hearing about their experience this Sunday. But even if we can’t count on him doing that for us, still he comes to us in different ways. As we hear, read, and study his Word—he speaks. As we
receive his gifts of bread and wine—he gives us his body and blood, to forgive and strengthen us. Come and let him give you these gifts this Sunday!

As we gather for worship this Second Sunday of Easter

After Easter—what? Christ is risen (He is risen indeed, Alleluia!). But where does that leave us? The joy of the resurrection is not automatic. We don’t always feel it. In fact, we sometimes feel its absence more than its presence. Yes, we long for it, wait for it, and hope for it. But the very fact that we do all those things, rather than actually physically enjoying it here and now, says something. The resurrection of Jesus is more of a promise than a currently realized gift. As precious as that promise is, we still need to wait for its fulfilment.
How good, then, to gather together in worship while we wait. In the strong company of other
“waiters,” we find encouragement… patience… hope… and joy!

Acts 5:29–42 1

As we gather for worship this Sunday – the 3rd Sunday after Epiphany

Volunteers? Sort of… but not really! God calls us to faith, through the power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus calls us to follow him, leading us into new
opportunities and commitments. In Sunday’s Gospel we see how this played out in the lives of several ordinary fishermen. Their Saviour interrupted their lives—for their own good!—and called them into his service—for the good of
their neighbours.

As we gather for worship this Sunday – The Baptism of Our Lord
(the 1st Sunday after Epiphany )

Jesus did not appear out of nowhere. He showed up as the fulfilment of centuries of prophecy. As we sang at Christmas, “The hopes and fears of all the years… are met in Thee tonight!” Problem is, it is not always easy to see this. Many people in Jesus ’day did not, would not, could not recognize him as the Saviour. But some did! And we do too!! We realize that God
the Father truly meant it when he said about Jesus, at the time of his baptism (which is this
Sunday’s focus), “This is my Son, whom I love. With Him I am well pleased!”
