Sadly, Roy William Weaver of Moorefield, Ontario passed away peacefully on May 17th, 2026, at the age of 91years old. Surrounded by the love of his massive family he spent his life building.
He was the beloved husband and soulmate of Violet Weaver (nee Rody), with whom he shared 66 incredible years of marriage and partnership. Together, they raised six children: Darlene (Bertrand), Dale (Janice), Donald (Lisa), David (Shelley), Doug, and Duane (Lori).
Roy was a man who appreciated the fast lane. In his earlier days, he loved the adrenaline of racing his own racecar #71, which proudly carried the moniker “Slim Weaver” around the track. He was a lifelong enthusiast of NASCAR and the horse races, an avid golfer in his earlier years, and a fiercely loyal fan of the Philadelphia Flyers hockey team. Loved music, classic country and modern country and rapping to Megan Thee Stallion, a memory we will never forget in his last moments. Unbelievably, at the age of 91, Roy was still driving his car till the week before his passing.
While he loved sports, nothing compared to his role as the patriarch of his sprawling family. To his 15 grandchildren, he was affectionately known only as “Grumpy Grandpa.” It was a title given with love and accepted with a smirk, masking a man who was deeply proud of every single one of them.
His legacy of love, wit, and strong-willed charm will live on through his grandchildren: Justin, Jasmyne, Joshua, Holly ,Christian, Arlene, Joanie, Aaron, Troy, Jesse, Steven, Karson, Scott, Sydney, Sarah, and Brandon; his 12 great-grandchildren: Taylor, Bryson, Abigail, Allison, Kashlynn, Remmington, Stella, Jack, Lily, Audrey, Claire, and Sophie; and his great-great-granddaughter, Isla. Missed by two sisters Ilene (Gord) Horlock, Ruth (Graham) Ford, several nieces and nephews, sister in laws and brother in laws and friends. Predeceased by his parents Beatrice and William Weaver.
Roy lived a full and vibrant life, leaving his family with countless memories, a love for the game, and a template for a long, dedicated marriage. He will be deeply missed.
As Roy has requested, no funeral or visitation. A private celebration and burial at a later date.
Thank you to all the doctors, staff at The Palmerston District Hospital and the Guelph General Hospital.
Memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
A tree will be planted in memory of Roy W. Weaver in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest.
