Armenian Diocese of Canada Appoints Rev. Fr. Myron Sarkissian as Coordinator of Youth Ministries

The Armenian Diocese of Canada is pleased to announce the appointment of the Reverend Father Myron Sarkissian as Coordinator of Youth Ministries for the Armenian Diocese of Canada.

In this important role, Fr. Myron will serve under the direction of His Grace Bishop Abgar Hovakimyan, Primate of the Armenian Diocese of Canada, and will be based at the Diocesan Office in Montreal. He will work closely with parishes, clergy, youth leaders, and volunteers across the country to strengthen and expand the Diocese’s ministry to youth and young adults.

As Coordinator of Youth Ministries, Fr. Myron will provide leadership in the development of programs, retreats, leadership initiatives, and outreach efforts designed to foster the spiritual growth, Christian formation, and active participation of young people in the life of the Armenian Apostolic Church. He will also serve as the principal coordinator of the Armenian Church Youth Organization of Canada (ACYOC), helping to build stronger connections among Armenian youth throughout Canada and encouraging the next generation of faithful leaders.

Recognizing the vital importance of youth engagement in the future of the Church, Fr. Myron has been entrusted with a special mandate to revitalize diocesan youth ministry. During his first year of service, he will organize and implement a national reunion gathering for participants and alumni of the Armenian Church Youth Organization of Canada (ACYOC) and the Canadian Youth Mission to Armenia (CYMA). This landmark initiative will seek to reconnect former participants, strengthen friendships and networks among Armenian youth and young adults, promote spiritual growth and Christian fellowship, and establish a sustainable framework for future youth engagement across the Diocese.

The Armenian Diocese of Canada invites all faithful, parish communities, youth leaders, and young adults to join in welcoming Fr. Myron to this important ministry and to support him with their prayers as he undertakes this mission.

On May 28, His Grace Bishop Abgar Hovakimyan had the pleasure of welcoming renowned Armenian weightlifting champion Nazik Avdalyan to the Armenian Diocese of Canada.

The visit was arranged through Mr. Levon Afeyan, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Armenia in Quebec, who introduced Mrs. Avdalyan to His Grace.

Born in Gyumri, Armenia, Nazik Avdalyan made history by becoming the first Armenian weightlifter to win a gold medal at the World Weightlifting Championships in 2009. She is also the first Armenian woman to become a world champion in any sport, an achievement that has inspired generations of athletes both in Armenia and throughout the diaspora.

During the visit, Bishop Abgar congratulated Ms. Avdalyan on her remarkable accomplishments and her continued dedication to the development of sports and youth.
