Message from the Primate:

Christ is Risen, Alleluia!

Rejoice and be glad! For by death, He conquered death; winning for us eternal life!

In these desperate times, when wars and the consequences of war envelop the whole world, let us endeavour to see with eyes of faith that which reason cannot perceive, namely, that where the world sees defeat; God finds victory.

Let our faith be the fulgent star that guides us, let charity be the sure vessel in which we navigate these troubled waters, and, let hope be our sustenance that nourishes us in the crossing.

Truly, He is risen!

And behold an angel of the Lord stood by them, and the brightness of God shone round about them; and they feared with a great fear.
And the angel said to them: Fear not; for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, that shall be to all the people:
For, this day, is born to you a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord, in the city of David.
And this shall be a sign unto you. You shall find the infant wrapped in swaddling clothes, and laid in a manger.
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly army, praising God, and saying:
Glory to God in the highest; and on earth peace to men of good will.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Yesterday, with great shock and sadness, we learned of the sickening attack on participants at the Filipino Lapu Lapu Day festival in Vancouver, British Columbia, that left 11 dead (ranging in ages between 5 and 65) with many others injured. The attacker, who drove an SUV into the crowd, was known to police and has been charged with 8 counts of second degree murder. Police say the alleged attacker has a history of mental health issues, so they do not believe he was motivated by terrorism.

Please join me in praying for the victims of this attack and for their families during this difficult time.

May the souls of the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

Back on February 23, 2023, I was honoured to preach (on I John 3:1-15) at Evensong and Benediction at the Church of St Barnabas, Apostle and Martyr. The sermon can be found at 36:40 during the service. I hope you find it edifying.

1 John 3:1-15

3 See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 2 Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears,[a] we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. 3 All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.

4 Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness. 5 But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin. 6 No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him.

7 Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. The one who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous. 8 The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work. 9 No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God. 10 This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not God’s child, nor is anyone who does not love their brother and sister.

More on Love and Hatred

11 For this is the message you heard from the beginning: We should love one another. 12 Do not be like Cain, who belonged to the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own actions were evil and his brother’s were righteous. 13 Do not be surprised, my brothers and sisters,[b] if the world hates you. 14 We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love each other. Anyone who does not love remains in death. 15 Anyone who hates a brother or sister is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him.
