Adath Shalom Congregation is very pleased that Rabbi Deborah Zuker will provide spiritual leadership for our High Holiday Services at the Soloway Jewish Community Centre on Rosh Hashanah, September 22-24, 2025, and on Yom Kippur October 1-2, 2025.
Ottawa-born and raised, Rabbi Zuker is the first woman Conservative rabbi to serve in the city. She is a proponent of egalitarianism in traditional Judaism.
Rabbi Zuker’s educational background includes a Master of Social Work, a Master in Jewish studies from the Joint Program at Columbia University and the Jewish Theological Seminary, as well as a Master in Talmud and Codes.
Rabbi Zuker’s first congregation was in Peabody, Massachusetts at Temple Ner Tamid from 2011 to 2015, where she focused on creating family programming and fostering community collaboration. Rabbi Zuker returned to Ottawa and was Kehillat Beth Israel’s Associate Rabbi from 2016 to 2022.
She also trained in family mediation, and, for over a decade, has been involved in counselling. Rabbi Zuker has a private practice that offers one-on-one Jewish spiritual counselling and life-cycle rabbinical services. Her clients represent all parts of the religious spectrum.
Rabbi Zuker also helped spearhead JOIN, the Jewish Ottawa Inclusion Network, which works for greater inclusion for children with exceptionalities and adults with special needs in the Ottawa Jewish community.
Rabbi Zuker has stimulated Adath Shalom Congregation for several years as a teacher. We look forward to her role as our spiritual guide for the High Holy Days this year.
