St. Joe’s Supper Table’s 4th Annual Autumn Harvest Fundraiser will be held on Saturday, October 24 at 6:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall. Tickets can be purchased online through Zeffy or after Mass the weekend of September 26-27. Join us for a night of community and celebration as we honour our relationship with Notre Dame Visitation Province. There will be door prizes and many raffle prize. All funds go to support the St Joe’s Supper Table in its mission to feed all who come to our doors.

In the spring of this year, Pope Leo published his encyclical Magnifica Humanitas shedding the light of Catholic social teaching on artificial intelligence. A group of St. Joe's parishioners will be coming together on Zoom for a weekly study group to explore Magnifica Humanitas beginning on Tuesday, September 29 from 7:30-9:00pm and continuing until Tuesday, November 24.

Building Fund Update – St. Joe's to install new Fire Control Panel

Thank you to parishioners who continue to use their envelopes or online giving to donate to the Parish's "Step Up Building Fund." Between January and August 2026, the Parish raised $7,455 through this special fund, which helps us cover essential capital expenses. A capital cost is a generational investment in our parish; which is different from the on-going maintenance of our building. Between January and August 2026, the Parish spent $83,144 on interior and exterior regular maintenance, and on other non-capital repairs.
Activox is the company that provides the Parish with fire protection monitoring. They inspect our fire protection equipment each year, and provide a report on any deficiencies that must be addressed. They recently identified that the building's fire control panel must be replaced. The fire control panel communicates to the fire department in two ways: a phone line and the Internet. If one fails, the system uses the other to communicate an emergency successfully. The current panel is designed to work with 2G and 3G Internet, which Canada's telecommunications providers have phased out and replaced with 4G and 5G Internet. A recent inspection identified that the current panel, which is over 15 years old, cannot be upgraded to function reliably with 4G Internet and therefore must be replaced.
The cost of a new fire control panel is $22,648, and this quote was many times higher than anticipated. As a matter of safety, we have to proceed with this essential capital project. We are in communication with Activox to schedule the upgrade in the coming weeks.
The Step Up – Building Fund helps to replenish the Parish's Capital Asset Renewal Reserve, which is how we pay for essential capital expenses, such as the replacement of the fire control panel. Next weekend, September 19/20, Fr. Stephen Wekesa, OMI will be a guest at St. Joseph’s Parish. Fr. Stephen is a member of the Kenya Mission, which is part of OMI Lacombe Province. He will speak at the weekend celebrations and share some of his experience as a member of the Mission and its relationship to the Oblates of OMI Lacombe and the church in Canada – a perfect bridge-building visit as the Oblates celebrate their 200th Anniversary this year!
He will be available after the Masses to meet and have a conversation with you. The Missionary Association of Mary Immaculate (MAMI), the fundraising arm of OMI Lacombe, will have material available for those who are interested in learning more about the Oblate missions as well and to learn about how you can offer support.

Pope Leo XIV has chosen “Even just one of these children” as the title for his message for this date, making clear reference to the Gospel according to Matthew: “Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me” (Mt 18:5).

Guest Speaker — Emilio Rodríguez is a Salvadoran Canadian policy leader and editor of “A Renewed Canadian Welcome: Eleven Visions from Migrants and Advocates,” a May 2026 publication that centres human rights in Canadian immigration.

The Season of Creation, running from September 1 to October 4th, is a time to be grateful for God’s abundance, for all His Creation. Creation is the first love message of God to humankind. It is a place where we can encounter God. This year’s theme for the Season of Creation is “Living Water” (see Ezekiel 47:1-12: water flowing from God’s sanctuary). The theme highlights the interconnectedness of spiritual life and environmental stewardship, calling participants to immerse themselves in God’s life-giving water and to actively work for the renewal of creation.

Throughout the year, individuals come forward seeking to learn more about the Catholic faith. You may have a friend who is Catholic… you may be dating, engaged, or married to a Catholic…or you may just be seeking information on your own. You may have even been baptized a Catholic but never completed your initiation.

If you are such a seeker, we welcome you. The St. Joseph’s community invites you to have a look at the adult initiation process here at the parish with the hope that you will find an opportunity to grow closer to God at this time in your faith journey. The adult initiation process is a process of prayer, reflection, and learning that allows for the continual discernment of God’s will in our lives. No matter where you are on your faith journey, there is a place for you at St. Joseph’s.

You’re Invited: Faith Sharing Group – Fall Session

Are you looking for a welcoming place to grow in faith, reflect on Scripture, and share the journey with others? Our Faith Sharing Group will begin its fall session on Monday evenings from September 14 to October 26 in the chapel, using the Serendipity New Testament for Groups. (Please note there will be no meeting on Thanksgiving Monday, October 12.) This small group offers an open, supportive, and informal setting where each person's faith story is valued. Whether you have participated before or are considering joining for the first time, you are warmly welcome.
