Dear Parishioners of St. Joseph Parish,

By now, many have likely heard that Fr. Ken Thorson, OMI, who was expected to become pastor of St. Joseph Parish June 1, has been appointed by Pope Leo as Bishop of the Diocese of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.

We recognize this announcement comes as a surprise and may also bring disappointment and uncertainty for members of the parish community. Fr. Ken was preparing to begin this new ministry among you, and we recognize that this unexpected change affects the plans and hopes to which many were looking forward.

At the same time, we give thanks to God for Fr. Ken’s generous response to this new call in the Church. After prayer and discernment, he accepted this appointment with humility, faith, and trust in God’s guidance.

As Provincial Leadership of OMI Lacombe Canada, we want to assure you that we are actively looking at options to address the pastoral situation at St. Joseph Parish and to provide continued care and support for the parish community. We ask for your patience and understanding as we discern the best path forward.

Please keep Fr. Ken in your prayers as he prepares for this new ministry as bishop. We also ask your prayers for your parish of St. Joseph and for all those involved in this time of transition.

May God continue to bless your parish community with faith, hope, and unity.

Andrzej Stendzina OMI: Provincial - OMI Lacombe Canada

In lieu of what would be a giant card, we have created a Memory Book. The Memory Book is available at the back of the church and available for you to sign. Please add your pleasant memories and well wishes to our outgoing pastor, Fr. Robert, as he prepares for his new mission in Kenya.
The Memory Book will also be presented at the Farewell Gathering on Sunday, May 31.

Did you know? The Oblates have served communities for generations, part of a 200-year global mission. St. Joseph's Parish has always been an Oblate parish, and the Ottawa Diocese was also founded by Missionary Oblates.

What’s the difference between an oblate priest and a diocesan priest?
Both serve as Catholic priests, but Oblates are part of a religious community with a shared mission. They live and serve together, often going where the need is greatest, locally and globally. Diocesan priests typically serve within a single diocese, focusing on parish life in that region.
✨ Different paths. One shared mission: serving God’s people.

Who are the Oblates?

The Oblates of Mary Immaculate are Catholic priests and brothers called to serve where the need is greatest, especially among those who are most in need of hope.

For 200 years, Oblates have lived out this mission in communities around the world.

🙏 A life of service. A life of mission.
