The Search
The Search begins this Sunday after the 11:30am Mass in the parish hall. All are welcome to join.

Bundle Sunday
St. Vincent de Paul Fall Bundle Sunday will be next weekend to collect donations for the Fall Bundle. You can leave your generous donations in the van located in the parking lot.

Parish Breakfast
The Knights of Columbus are preparing a free will offering breakfast after each of the Sunday morning Masses on October 25 th . All profits will go to World Youth Day Pilgrims.

Vocations Field Trip
The Parish Vocations Ministry is hosting a vocations field trip for young women from 18 to 24 years to visit the Queenship of Mary sisters at their convent on Baseline Road. Please see the poster in the vestibule to get connected.

CWL Donation Drive
The Catholic Women’s League will be holding a Donation Drive for Cornerstone Housing for women starting on Saturday, October 31st until November 8th. Please refer to the bulletin. Thank you for your generosity.

Office Closed
The Parish office will be closed on Thursday October 22 nd due to Pastoral Day. Adoration will continue as normal.

29th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Our vocation as Christians is to live in union with Jesus Christ. It is only when we are aware of our relationship with Him that we are truly able to accept all that happens to us in faith.

The Gospel
To entrap Jesus, the Pharisees asked Him if it was lawfully to pay taxes to the emperor or not. And Jesus aware of their evil intent responded: “Give to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s and to God the things that are God’s. With these words, Jesus reminds us that we have responsibilities both as citizens of our country and as children of God. We are called to be honest, responsible, and law-abiding citizens, contributing to the good of society. At the same time, we must never forget that our first allegiance is to God, who is the source of our life and all that we have.

We Belong to God
If we are to give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, what then belongs to God? Our very lives belong to God! We are created in His image and likeness. Just as the coin bears Caesar’s image, we bear the image of God. Therefore, giving to God what belongs to Him means offering Him our hearts, our time, our talents, and our entire lives through love and faithful service.

World Mission Sunday
Today is World Mission Sunday, a special day in the liturgical year that we are invited to think about our call to be missionaries and also to pray for the Church’s missionary activities. We are reminded of the urgency of our vocation as disciples and missionaries in our world today. As Christians we all share in the mission of the Church, it is in fact what defines our identity, it is our life.

Our Vocation
Commenting on our vocation as Christians, the Fathers of the Second Vatican Council states: “Their main duty, whether they are men or women, is the witness which they are bound to bear to Christ by their life and works in the home, in their social milieu, and in their own professional circle. In them, there must appear the new man created according to God in justice and true holiness.” The challenge, therefore, is for us to follow in the footsteps of Christ, the Missionary par excellence, even when the road ahead appears threatening and full of dangerous curves. He must surely lead us to the Father’s Kingdom.

Congratulations
Some young people of our parish family are beginning their preparation for the reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation. As they are taking part in the enrolment ceremony this weekend, I would like to congratulate them and their parents on this yet another significant step in their journey of faith. Please keep these candidates and their families in your prayers.

May the Lord help us to fulfil our responsibilities on earth faithfully while keeping our hearts and minds fixed on Him, our ultimate purpose and our eternal home. Amen.

In observance of the Franciscan Jubilee Year marking the 800th anniversary of his death, Holy Redeemer recently welcomed a prayerful addition to its church grounds. The parish’s Care for Creation ministry commissioned an outdoor mural of St. Francis of Assisi. The artwork stands as a daily reflection for the community, invoking the saint’s enduring witness to the holiness of God’s creation.

On Sunday, October 11, the parish community gathered for the official blessing of the mural following the 11:30 am Mass. Bishop Yvan Mathieu presided over the liturgy and blessing, offering prayers that the parish may be guided by the joyful and humble spirit of St. Francis in caring for our common home.

The mural was created by artist Khol Spencer-Newton, who was present for the occasion to meet with parishioners. The composition captures the quiet peace, humility, and ecological devotion of the patron saint of ecology, offering the parish a visual invitation to prayer and contemplation.

As the Franciscan Jubilee Year continues, members of the Archdiocese are invited to view the mural at Holy Redeemer. May this humble image remind us of our sacred responsibility to protect God's creation with gratitude and care.

28TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
‘Invite everyone you find to the wedding banquet.’
— Matt 22:9

God calls us to be happy, not merely in a passing way in this life, but forever in His heavenly kingdom to enjoy the fullness of life which He alone can give.

The Invitation
In today’s Gospel, Jesus compares the Kingdom of Heaven to a great banquet. We have each been invited to this banquet, and in a sense, we have already honoured that invitation; otherwise, we would not be here at Mass today. Yet, we are still on our journey toward the eternal banquet in Heaven. Since we have not yet arrived at that Heavenly Banquet, let us hold fast to our faith and make sure that we do not turn aside along the way.

The Mass
One of the best expressions of our faith in the promise of Heaven is our participation in the Eucharist. Every time we gather around the altar, we are given a foretaste of the Heavenly Banquet to which Christ invites us. May our celebration of the Eucharist strengthen us on our journey and help us remain faithful until we are welcomed into the Eternal Banquet of Heaven.

The Mass is God’s greatest gift to us for which we should be very thankful! The Mass reminds us of our great worth in the eyes of God and of Jesus. The Mass tells us clearly that God is all loving and that each of us is worth loving. The Mass likewise challenges us to go into the world to share the good news and be witnesses of the great love of God revealed in Jesus Christ. The Mass never ends; it must be lived!

Happy Thanksgiving
On this Thanksgiving weekend, we are reminded of God’s immense love and goodness to us as individuals and as a family. It is good to give thanks to the Lord, the Psalmist reminds us, because from the fullness of His grace we have all received one blessing after another. We have so much to be thankful for: the gift of life, health, food on our table, our family, our parish, our country, Canada, and above all God’s gift of His Only Son, Jesus Christ in the Eucharist! These are great signs of God’s extravagant love and goodness to us! It is, therefore, right and just to give thanks to God! We do this by continuously seeking His face and to be mindful of the less privileged in our midst. Charity and gratitude go together. Happy Thanksgiving!

May we always be open to the Lord’s invitation to live in His Presence.

40 Days for Life
40 Days for Life is an international campaign to end abortion through prayer and community action. Parishes across Ottawa pray outside the bubble zone near the abortion facility at the corner of Bank and Sparks in downtown Ottawa. Our parish's vigil day for silent public prayer is this Thursday October 8. Please sign up at the 40 Days for Life display in the church entrance for an hour of silent prayer at the vigil site on October 8.

Life Chain
Life Chain is this weekend Sunday October 4 th from 2 to 3 PM. Life Chain is an opportunity for public witness to share positive pro-life messages while praying silently near high visibility traffic intersections. There are over 350 Life Chain locations across Canada. Our location is at the intersection of Eagleson and Hazeldean. We also have a family friendly location just in front of the church. There is no registration. Simply come and join us tomorrow from 2 to 3 PM.

Bereavement
The Bereavement Ministry offers a welcoming space that enables people to share their grief story in a safe and confidential manner while providing the tools and resources necessary to successfully manage grief. Our next Bereavement support group will begin on Tuesday, October 20th. Registration is required as space is limited.

Vocations

Legion of Mary
The Legion of Mary would like to invite you to celebrate October, the month of the Holy Rosary, by joining them in reciting the rosary. We have 3 opportunities to do so: First, throughout the month of October, the Rosary will be prayed before all weekday Masses, the 5pm Mass on Saturdays, and the 8am Mass on Sundays. Second, the Legion of Mary is holding a Candlelight Living Rosary at Holy Redeemer on Wednesday, October 7th at 6pm. Third, you are invited to host a statue of Our Lady of Fatima in your home for a week and pray the rosary daily. Contact Balsam to arrange your visit.

Mural Blessing
Please join us at the official blessing of the mural after the 11:30 am Mass on Sunday Oct 11. A small reception will follow. Bishop Yvan Mathieu will be presiding and the artist (Khol Spencer-Newton) will be present.

27TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
‘The landowner will lease the vineyard to other tenants.’
— Matt 21:41

Both the First Reading and the Gospel of today’s Liturgy are about vineyards whose vines bring forth grapes, which in turn are made into w**e. However, what both Isaiah and Jesus are talking about is people – the People of God, the House of Israel, and the People of God now, the Church!

Our Souls as Gardens
Gardens are carefully created by gardeners in order to enable plants to be healthy and reach maturity, bearing abundant fruit. God sees our souls as gardens of virtue.
Just as God supplied the vineyard with air, sunlight, water, soil, the wall to protect it, and the tower to guard it, so He supplies each one of us with life, talents, opportunities, family, sacraments, faith, knowledge, conscience, and the guidance of the Church. This is a powerful reminder that all good things in life comes from God!

God is Patient
Today's Readings show how many chances God gives His tenants to do the right thing, to fulfill their duties, to do what they were put there to do. When they don't do what's right, God sends three different messengers, including His own Son. In justice, however, He didn't have to send any. He could have evicted those selfish stewards right away. But God is patient with our sin and selfishness. He keeps giving us more and more chances, many more than we deserve. He never gives up on us, even though sometimes we give up on ourselves.

Go Bear Fruit
What God wants of us as a Church today, is a growing awareness of a world in need of Christ. God wants us to know that we are a people on a mission, that of showing forth Christ on our lives and attitudes. God wants a deeper concern for everyone who is in need of any kind. In a word, what God wants of us is Christ-likeness and a deep sense of our being loved by Christ with a love that surpasses all our desires. We are called to be sacrament of God’s love to the whole world - such power given to us to transform our world.

1) Life Chain Sunday is THIS weekend on October 4. I invite you to join me in standing at the corner of Hazeldean and Eagleson Roads for an hour of silent prayer and witness from 2:00 – 3:00 pm or, with Father Ambrose at our family friendly location in front of the Church.

2) 40 Days for Life is an all-day vigil at the corner of Bank and Queen, and continues daily until Sunday November 1st. Our Parish vigil day is THIS Thursday, October 8, from 7am—5pm. Please visit the display in the vestibule and sign-up for an hour of silent prayer.
