Labour Day Office Hours
A reminder that the Parish Office will be closed on Monday for Labour day and will open again on Tuesday.

Online Safety
We have been made aware of fraudulent emails and text messages being sent in the name of our pastors or volunteers. Please be advised that our pastors and church volunteers will never request funds, e-transfers, or electronic gift cards (such as Apple or Amazon cards). We encourage everyone to remain vigilant.

Young Adults Group
The Young Adults' group is happy to invite you to two different events:

1. The first is a Karaoke Night on Friday, September 18th at 6:30pm in the Parish Hall. We will have Praise and Worship, followed by Karaoke. An optional $10 entrance donation would be gratefully accepted to support our World Youth Day pilgrims!

2. The second event is a new weekly initiative called Torch. Young adults will gather at Clarence Maheral park to play sports, then at the Parish to engage in other faith activities. Torch will launch on Sunday September 20th at 4pm.

Fall Faith Opportunities
Fall is around the corner! Looking for ways to grow in your faith? Learn how to read the Bible or Catechism this year! Classes start at the end of September and beginning of October. Visit holyredeemer.ca/bible-study

First Communion/Confirmation
If you wish for your child to celebrate First Communion or Confirmation in 2027, you need to attend an important information seminar on Saturday, September 19th for First Communion or Tuesday September 22nd for Confirmation.

Finance Council Members Needed
The Finance Council needs to fill vacant positions. If interested, please contact Anita Henson by September 25th. The Finance Council monitors the Parish Treasure (income and expenses) and makes recommendations to the Pastor on financial matters.

Experience with business management, finances, including budgeting, would be an asset. The Finance Council commitment includes monthly meetings and meetings with other Parish Leadership Teams throughout the year.

CWL Workshop Fundraiser
The Catholic Women’s League is holding a Cardmaking Workshop Fundraiser in the Church Hall on Saturday September 19 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. Come for the fun and discover or display your artistic talent. Invite your friends. All are welcome, register with Corrienne Matthews.

Legion of Mary
This weekend the Legion of Mary ministry will host a celebration for the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It will be held at the 11am Mass beginning with a rosary at 10:30am, a flower procession and Marian hymns during Mass; followed by cake in the hall. We hope you can join us for Our Lady's Birthday.


Season of Creation
Each year we mark the Season of Creation (Sept. 1 - Oct 4) and we are invited to reflect on our responsibility as stewards of our common home. You can read the Archbishop's letter here.

23RD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
In today’s Gospel, Jesus gives us a beautiful and practical teaching on fraternal correction: “If your brother or sister sins against you, go and point out the fault when the two of you are alone.” (Matthew 18:15).

Understandably, correction is never easy. Our natural tendency may be to ignore the problem, complain to others, or simply distance ourselves from the person who has hurt us. Yet Jesus invites us to choose a better path— a path of love, courage, humility, and reconciliation.

True fraternal correction is not about proving someone wrong or making ourselves feel superior. It is about caring enough to help one another grow in holiness and to restore relationships when they have been wounded. It requires that we speak honestly, but also gently; that we listen as much as we speak; and that we examine our own hearts before pointing out the faults of another.

Season of Creation
As we begin the Season of Creation — September 1, the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, to October 4, the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi — we are encouraged to reflect on our responsibility as stewards of our common home. During this season, may we give thanks for the beauty of creation, examine how our choices affect our common home, and commit ourselves to caring for it with greater gratitude and responsibility.

Back to School
As our children and young people return to school, and our teachers and school staff begin another year of service, let us entrust them all to the loving care of God. May the Lord bless our students, teachers, administrators, and all who support them. May He grant them wisdom, patience, courage, and joy throughout the year, and may our schools be places where faith, friendship, knowledge, and respect flourish.

Our Parish Feast – 45th Anniversary
Our much-anticipated Parish Feast is only one week away! I hope everyone is as excited and ready as I am to celebrate our wonderful parish family!

With parishioners from 70 different countries, including Canada, we certainly have every reason to give thanks to God for the wonderful gift of our parish and to celebrate the rich diversity that makes our parish family so special. This promises to be a wonderful community-building celebration that you won’t want to miss! Come and enjoy good food, great fellowship, and the company of your fellow parishioners. Bring a friend. Bring a neighbour. Come and eat your way around the world as we celebrate our parish and 45 years of faith, family, and fellowship! Let’s come together, celebrate our diversity, and give thanks to God for the beautiful parish family we are blessed to be!

Welcome Our New Facilities Maintenance Coordinator

We are pleased to welcome Ancy Nze to the Holy Redeemer Parish team as our new Facilities Maintenance Coordinator . In this role, Ancy will help oversee the care, maintenance, and upkeep of our parish facilities, ensuring that our buildings and grounds remain safe, welcoming, and well maintained. Please join me in giving Ancy a warm welcome to the Holy Redeemer team. We are delighted to have him with us and look forward to working with him!

Dear Parishioners,

As you know, in July we conducted a survey regarding proposed changes to our Sunday morning Mass times. The survey was necessitated by the limited time between the end of the 9:30 a.m. Mass and the beginning of the 11:00 a.m. Mass. The reason for this is simple: our parish is growing, and attendance at these Masses continues to increase. What a wonderful blessing!

To address this challenge, we have decided to adjust our Sunday morning Mass schedule to allow more time between Masses. This will give our liturgical volunteers sufficient time to prepare for each celebration and help with a smoother transition in our parking lot between Masses - especially if we offer community building activities between the Masses. We are also planning to implement other efficiencies to help keep the Masses close to one hour. Thank you to those who have offered suggestions on ways to help us streamline. Unfortunately, these measures alone will not completely resolve the challenge of having sufficient time between Masses; therefore, an adjustment to the Mass times remains necessary.

Over 500 parishioners completed the survey, and the Mass schedule option chosen by 61% of respondents was:

8:00 a.m., 9:30 a.m., and 11:30 a.m.

This change to our Sunday morning Mass schedule will take effect on the first weekend of October, Sunday, October 4. We know that transition and change can sometimes be challenging. Our hope is that this adjustment will be a positive one for the parish and all our ministries as we continue to grow and work together.

Fundraiser
After Mass, please enjoy the bake sale to help raise funds for Grace-Emmanuel, who will be attending the St. Thérèse Institute of Faith and Mission this coming fall.

Join Our Choirs!
Parishioners of reading age are invited to join our 9:30 AM or 5:00 PM Choirs . We especially need members for the 5:00 PM Choir . No experience is required; all are welcome. The first practice will be on Saturday, September 5th at 3:00 PM. Please see the bulletin for more information.

Communion
For parishioners who receive the Precious Blood, please ensure to let the Sacristan know at least 10 minutes before Mass begins. For further information, please see a brief announcement in the bulletin.

Season of Creation
Join the Care for Creation and Indigenous ministries in celebrating the Season of Creation from September 1st to October 4th. It is the Church’s annual celebration when Christians worldwide pray, reflect, and care for God's creation.
How can you participate? Similar to praying with Scripture, spend 10 minutes silently observing a single element of creation—such as a specific tree, a stone, a flower, or a flowing stream. Look closely at its textures, colors, and how it interacts with light or wind. Consider what this reveals about the Creator’s patience, creativity, and love. Offer a silent prayer of thanksgiving for the protection of that ecosystem.

First Friday Adoration
First Friday all-night Adoration begins this coming Friday September 4th at 8PM, and continues until Saturday morning, at followed by 9AM Mass. Sign-up sheets are provided at the back of the Church, or register online here.
Parish Feast Day
Sunday, September 13th is our Parish Feast Day celebration! For the day to run smoothly, we need your help! If you would like to give of your time that day to help with the set up and activities or to donate food for us to serve that day, speak with one of the Parish Feast Day team members after Mass today or scan the QR codes on the posters in the vestibule. High schoolers, it can be a great way for you to get some volunteer hours in!

“If any want to become My followers, l et them deny themselves.” (Matt 16:24).
A Reflection by Scott Hahn: For your life
This Sunday’s First Reading catches the prophet Jeremiah in a moment of weakness. His intimate lamentation contains some of the strongest language of doubt found in the Bible. Following God’s call, he feels abandoned. Preaching His Word has brought him only derision.

But God does not deceive, and Jeremiah knows this. He tests the just (see Jeremiah 20:11–12), and disciplines His children through their sufferings and trials (see Hebrews 12:5–7).

What Jeremiah learns, Jesus states explicitly in this week’s Gospel. To follow Him is to take up a cross, to deny yourself: your priorities, preferences, and comforts.

It is to be willing to give it all up, even life itself, for the sake of His Gospel.

As Paul says in the Epistle, we have to join ourselves to the passion of Christ, to offer our bodies — our whole beings — as living sacrifices to God.

By His cross, Jesus has shown us what Israel’s sacrifices of animals were meant to teach: that we owe to God all that we have.

God’s kindness is a greater good than life itself, as we sing in the Psalms. The only thanks we can offer is our spiritual worship, to give our lives to the service of His Will (see Hebrews 10:3-11; Psalm 50:14, 23).

Peter doesn’t yet get this in the Gospel. As it was for Jeremiah, the cross is a stumbling block for Peter (see 1 Corinthians 1:23). This, too, is our natural temptation, to refuse to believe that our sufferings play a necessary part in God’s plan.

That’s how people think, Jesus tells us this week. But we are called to the renewal of our minds, to think as God thinks, to will what He Wills.

In the Mass, we once again offer ourselves as perfect and pleasing sacrifices of praise (see Hebrews 13:15). We bless Him as we live, confident that we will find our lives in losing them, that with the riches of His banquet, our souls will be satisfied.
