THE 12TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
“… Do not be afraid; you are of more value than many sparrows …” — Matthew 10:31

In today’s Gospel, Jesus told His Apostles three times not to be afraid — three times! He wouldn't say it if they didn't need to hear it.

But why would they need to hear it? Because as they go out in Christ's Name to spread the Gospel in word and deed, they are going to run into serious difficulties. He is warning them that their Christian mission will demand heroic courage, perseverance, and fidelity as they constantly face suffering, mockery, and opposition. They are going to run into people who will want to destroy them, humiliate them, and even kill them, just because they bear Christ's Name and are trying to spread Christ's message.

Those same warnings apply to us too. Being a Christian is not like joining a tennis club. There is a spiritual battle going on in this fallen world.

Strong in Faith
Whenever we are truly following Christ and building up His Kingdom, the powers of darkness, the devil and his minions, don't like it, and they try to make it hard for us, just as they made it hard for the Apostles. We must be vigilant and strong in our faith!

Sacred Heart of Jesus Icon
From Wednesday June 24th to Thursday July 2nd Holy Redeemer parish will host a travelling image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, courtesy of the Knights of Columbus. The image will be available for veneration in the back of the church during that time. On Friday, June 26th at 7pm, to close out the month of June, we will have a special votive Mass to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

I pray that our parishioners will take advantage of this opportunity to venerate the image and be drawn ever more deeply into the love of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, who loves us with a love beyond all telling!

Happy Fathers’ Day
“Fathers must not shrink from their important leadership role in their family, which is to be exercised with humility, joy, grace and love.” Fathers, like mothers, are special gifts from God. Today we honour our fathers, who provide love and care for us. It is something worth doing!

As we honour our earthly fathers, may we never fail to thank our Heavenly Father, who loves us unconditionally, and will never leave nor forsake us. He is the Father of us all!
As summer begins, I would like to wish everyone a safe, restful, and refreshing summer holiday — a wonderful time to be with family and friends. As you make time for others, I encourage you also to make time for God during the summer months. Summer often affords us a little more time and a slower pace of life, making it an ideal season to listen more attentively to the Lord. It is a time to sit outside in the sunshine or under the shade of a tree, to speak with God and to listen to Him.

May this summer be a season of rest, renewal, and deeper communion with the One who loves us most. God is good!

THE 11TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
“Then Jesus summoned His twelve disciples and sent them out.” — Matthew 10:1-15

Saint Paul reminds us in today's Second Reading that Christ died for us while we were still sinners, without looking for anything in return. We should do the same.

Looking for Nothing in Return
When we look for recognition or payment for doing right, we are not really free to experience the transforming power of Christian love. Instead, we start to get bitter and harbour grudges, making ourselves and those around us miserable. But if we do the Christian thing seeking only to please Christ and follow Him, then we experience a huge sense of relief, joy, and internal peace, because we are freed from the slavery of other people's approval.

What Must We Do?
Spend time making a good meal for the family, even though no one will say thank you — do it for Christ; He won't forget. Go ahead and help someone with their homework or their work project, even though they don't appreciate it — do it for Christ. Go ahead and work hard, giving your best, even though your boss or your coach or your teacher has something against you — do it for Christ. Go ahead and serve the weak, the poor, the unpopular even though the in-crowd will laugh at you — do it for Christ. Just as Christ's heart beats for us, so our hearts are meant to beat only for Him. Today, let's ask Him to teach our hearts the right beat.

Congratulations
Each year, we recognize parishioners whose dedication and generosity exemplify the spirit of Christian service. This year, we are pleased to honour three such individuals: Ed Olszewski, Cathy Deogrades, and Peter Fortier. Certificates of appreciation were presented to them at our Annual General Meeting.

We are deeply grateful for their many years of faithful, selfless, and dedicated service. On behalf of the entire parish community, I extend my heartfelt congratulations and sincere thanks for all they have done to enrich the life of our parish family.

Pastoral Year End
With the Annual General Meeting held on Wednesday, we have come to the end of another pastoral year. On behalf of Father Marc and Deacon Ron, I would like to once again express our sincere gratitude to all those whose dedicated efforts have made the dynamic life of our parish possible: our four leadership groups — the Parish Staff, the Parish Leadership Team (PLT), the Parish Pastoral Council (PPC), and the Finance Council; our amazing volunteers; the various committees and ministry leaders; and all those who work faithfully behind the scenes.

Your generous gifts of time, talent, and dedication are deeply appreciated. A special word of thanks goes to our Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Women's League (CWL) for their invaluable contributions to the life and leadership of our parish.

May God bless us all!
Fr. Paul

THE SOLEMNITY OF THE MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST
“My flesh is true food and My blood is true drink.”
— John 6:55

Today, we reflect on the Lord’s greatest gift: the gift of Himself in the Eucharist. In the Eucharist, we meet Jesus in a most extraordinary way. Today, He invites us to eat and drink, so as to live eternally with Him in His Heavenly Kingdom!

The Sacrament of Love
The Eucharist is an ultimate manifestation of the love of God. In the Eucharist, Jesus gives Himself completely out of love. In his apostolic exhortation “Sacramentum Caritatis” (The Sacrament of Charity) Pope Benedict XVI said, “The Holy Eucharist is the gift that Jesus Christ makes of Himself, thus revealing to us God's infinite love for every man and woman ... In the Sacrament of the Altar, the Lord meets us, men and women, created in God's image and likeness, and becomes our companion along the way. In this sacrament, the Lord truly becomes food for us, to satisfy our hunger for truth and freedom ...”

Jesus, Our Bread of Life
“Jesus promised eternal life to anyone who eats of the Divine Food which He offers, His Precious Body and Blood. The Eucharist is an extraordinary manifestation of the power and love of God, and each time we receive Him, we experience something extraordinary – a joy, a fragrance, a well-being that thrills the whole body and causes it to exalt.” – St. John Vianney. What a tremendous gift from a loving God! May we be drawn ever nearer to God’s love and to persevere in that love each time we celebrate the Eucharist and partake.

Nomination to PPC
I’m happy to announce that Adellah Chimbindi has been nominated to the Parish Pastoral Council and will be officially presented and acclaimed to the parish at the Annual General Meeting on June 10th. The AGM will begin at 6:30pm with Holy Mass and a light reception will follow.

Congratulations
I wish to congratulate all the young people of our parish who recently received the Sacrament of First Holy Communion (46 of them!). A special thank you to the team of catechists who worked tirelessly to prepare them for the Sacrament.

May we always receive the Eucharist with devotion and reverence so as to enjoy the fullness of life which Christ alone can give!
