Christ is Risen!
Our dear Matushka Sarah Kambites and her family have experienced a very tragic and sudden loss of her niece, Helen, in Uganda.

M. Sarah invites all who are able and willing, to come pray for the soul of the newly departed Helen, this Saturday at 3:30pm at St Xenia (served by Fr David Parker, London, ON).

A meal prepared by Mat. Sarah's daughter (chief) Angela will be served afterwards in the Elisabeth L. Skok Memorial Hall (church basement).

Helen was an outspoken and defender of Orthodox values ​​as a Member of Parliament in Uganda, who suddenly and unexpectedly passed away this week at only 40 years old, when she did not wake up from her surgery.

Many of you know Fr. Christopher Walusimbi, Mat. Sarah's brother, who serves our Lord on Bukasa Island in Uganda… Helen marks his 5th child who he has had the misfortune of burying.

Please remember the soul of the newly departed servant of God, Helen, and her grieving family, in your prayers.

Наша дорогая матушка Сара Камбитес и её семья пережили очень трагическую и внезапную потерю племянницы Елены в Уганде.

М. Сара приглашает всех, кто может и желает, прийти помолиться за душу недавно ушедшей Елены в эту субботу в 15:30 в церкви Святой Ксении (поминальную службу проведёт отец Дэвид Паркер, Лондон, Онтарио).

После службы в Мемориальном зале Элизабет Л. Скок (подвал церкви) будет подана трапеза, приготовленная дочерью матушки Сары (шеф-поваром) Анжелой.

Елена была откровенной защитницей православных ценностей, членом парламента Уганды, и внезапно и неожиданно скончалась на этой неделе в возрасте всего 40 лет, не очнувшись после операции.

Многие из вас знают отца Кристофера Валусимби, матушку Сару Камбитес. Брат Сары, служащий Господу на острове Букаса в Уганде… Елена стала пятым ребенком в его семье, которого ему, к сожалению, пришлось похоронить.

Пожалуйста, помолитесь за упокой души новопреставленной рабы Божьей Елены и ее скорбящую семью.

Таинство Соборования в Храме Покрова Пресвятой Богородицы 20 марта 2026 года
Дорогие братья и сестры!

Приглашаем прихожан нашего прихода принять участие в Таинстве Соборования (Елеосвящения), которое состоится в пятницу, 20 марта, в 18:00 в Храме Покрова Пресвятой Богородицы. (99 Stonehurst Avenue, Ottawa, Ontario, K1Y 4R6).

Таинство совершит епископ Спиридон Торонтский в сослужении отца Алексия и отца Олега.

Соборование — это Таинство Православной Церкви, во время которого верующие помазываются освящённым елеем во исцеление души и тела и во оставление грехов.

К участию приглашаются прихожане обоих приходов.

Также возможно, что ещё одно Таинство Соборования в нашем приходе совершит отец Олег в конце марта или в начале апреля.

Архипастырский визит епископа Спиридона Торонтского в наш приход 21 марта 2026 года
Божественная литургия в Родительскую субботу — последняя в этот Великий пост — будет совершена в нашем приходе 21 марта в 10:00. Литургию архиерейским чином возглавит Преосвященнейший Спиридон, епископ Торонтский, викарий Канадской Епархии.

Sacrament of Holy Unction at the Protection of the Holy Virgin Memorial Church on March 20, 2026
Dear Brothers and Sisters,

We invite the faithful of our parish to participate in the Sacrament of Holy Unction, which will take place on Friday, March 20, at 6:00 PM at the Protection of the Holy Virgin Memorial Church
(99 Stonehurst Avenue, Ottawa, Ontario, K1Y 4R6).

The Sacrament will be celebrated by His Grace, Bishop Spyridon of Toronto, concelebrating with Fr. Alexis and Fr. Oleg.

Holy Unction is a sacrament of the Orthodox Church during which the faithful are anointed with blessed oil for the healing of soul and body and for the forgiveness of sins.

Parishioners of both parishes are invited to attend and participate in this sacred mystery.

It is also possible that another celebration of the Sacrament of Holy Unction will take place in our parish, served by Fr. Oleg, in late March or early April. The exact date will be announced at a later time.

Archpastoral Visit of His Grace, Bishop Spyridon, to Our Parish on March 21, 2026
The Parents’ Saturday Divine Liturgy – the last of this Lenten season – will be celebrated at our parish on March 21 at 10:00 AM. The service will be celebrated hierarchically by His Grace, Bishop Spyridon of Toronto, Vicar of the Canadian Diocese.

Dear parishioners,

Sunday, February 22, 2026, Vespers for Forgiveness Sunday will be served immediately after Liturgy.

Following Vespers, all are invited to our parish’s Family Blini Luncheon. Profits from that day will be donated to the Ostrogozhsk Orphanage, Voronezh Oblast.

The minimum suggested donation for luncheon is $10 for adults and $5 for children. Wine and beer will also be available by additional donation.

В воскресенье, 22 февраля 2026 года, Вечерня Прощённого воскресенья будет совершена сразу после Литургии.

По окончании Вечерни все приглашаются на приходской семейный обед с блинами. Вырученные в этот день средства будут переданы в пользу Острогожского детского дома, Воронежская область.
Рекомендуемое минимальное пожертвование за обед составляет 10 долларов для взрослых и 5 долларов для детей. Вино и пиво также будут предложены за дополнительное пожертвование.

Утром во вторник, 28 октября 2025 года, Георгий Скок мирно отошёл ко Господу в своём семейном доме в Торонто.

Отпевание состоится в субботу, 8 ноября, в 11:00 утра в храме Блаженной Ксении Петербургской в Канате (Оттава). Хором будет руководить Пётр Фекула, для которого большая честь — возглавить пение в этот день.

После богослужения состоится погребение на кладбище Пайн-Гроув в Ланарке, Онтарио, где Георгий будет упокоен рядом со своими родителями. Поминальная трапеза (Поминки) пройдёт в приходском зале храма Блаженной Ксении сразу после погребения.

Первая панихида состоится в храме Блаженной Ксении в Оттаве в среду, 29 октября, в 18:30.

Панихида в Торонто состоялась во вторник, 28 октября, в 19:00 в Свято-Троицком Русском Православном храме, где Георгий многие годы был уважаемым и любимым регентом хора.

В память о Георгии учреждён фонд под эгидой Фонда Православного храма в Канате, предназначенный для поддержки молодых православных церковных регентов. Дополнительная информация о фонде будет сообщена позже.

On the morning of Tuesday, October 28, 2025, George Skok fell asleep in the Lord at his family home in Toronto.

The Rite of Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 8, at Blessed St. Xenia of Petersburg Orthodox Church in Kanata (Ottawa). The choir will be directed by Peter Fekula, who is honoured to lead the singing.

Following the service, interment will take place at Pine Grove Cemetery in Lanark, Ontario, where George will be laid to rest near his parents. A Pominki luncheon will be offered at the St. Xenia Parish Hall immediately after the burial.

A First Panikhida will be served at St. Xenia Church in Ottawa on Wednesday, October 29, at 6:30 p.m.

A Panikhida in Toronto was also held at Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church—where George was a long-standing and deeply respected conductor—on Tuesday evening, October 28, at 7:00 p.m.

In George’s memory, a fund under the Kanata Orthodox Church Foundation has been established to support the development of young Orthodox church conductors. Further details will be shared in due course.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Please note that on behalf of the Parish Council, in the absence of Fr. Oleg, Archbishop Gabriel has arranged with our Warden Michael Popovich for Very Rev. Valeriy Chemskii, Archpriest at St. Nicholas Cathedral in Montreal, to serve Divine Liturgy this Sunday at St Xenia, Kanata, on Sunday 03 August.

There will be no Vigil on Saturday 02 August.

Father Valeriy is scheduled to arrive from Montreal at St. Xenia on Sunday 03 August by 9:00 am so as to prepare for Divine Liturgy and hear Confessions. He will return to Montreal following the service. If possible, we would be grateful if one of our parishioners could offer Father Valery lunch.

Fr Oleg is scheduled to return to Ottawa in the forthcoming week and will be available for Divine Services as posted for August.

Обращаем ваше внимание, что от имени приходского совета, в отсутствие о. Олега, Aрхиепископ Гавриил благословил нашего старосту Михаила Поповича и всех нас, чтобы в это воскресенье в церкви Святой Ксении в Канате Божественную литургию отслужил протоиерей Валерий Чемский, клирик собора Святого Николая в Монреале.

В субботу, 2 августа, всенощного бдения не будет.

Отец Валерий планирует прибыть из Монреаля в храм Святой Ксении в воскресенье, 3 августа, к 9:00 утра, чтобы подготовиться к Божественной литургии и принять исповеди. После службы он вернется в Монреаль. Если возможно, мы были бы благодарны, если бы кто-нибудь из наших прихожан предложил отцу Валерию обед.

Отец Олег планирует вернуться в Оттаву на следующей неделе и будет доступен для богослужений, как указано в расписании на август.

English Language Divine Services during the absence of Fr. Oleg at St. Xenia Saturday 19-Sunday 20 July and Saturday 26-Sunday 27 July 2025

Given the absence of Fr. Oleg and with the blessing of Archbishop Gabriel, Fr. David Parker from our ROCOR parish in London, Ontario will be serving Vigil and Divine Liturgy this weekend and the next. Father David had previously served at St. Xenia’s in May 2025.

His profile is attached below.

The service times will be as normal and Fr David will be available to hear Confession before and after Saturday Vigil, before Sunday Divine Liturgy and during the Hours. For those unable to attend the afore mentioned, Fr David is open to hear Confession just before administering the Gifts at Divine Liturgy as the last opportunity.

Unfortunately his Matushka, Margaret and their daughter Olga were unable to accompany Fr. David and his three sons on this trip due to a prior commitment.

The Church manse has been made available to him and they will stay there for the week. Parishioners are therefore encouraged if possible to offer Father and his sons hospitality during this period.

Father David very much looks forward to seeing all the faithful at St. Xenia’s, God willing.

In 2023 on the feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord (6/19 August), Subdeacon David Parker, then a distance learning student at Holy Trinity Orthodox Seminary, Jordanville, New York, was ordained to the diaconate by His Grace, Bishop Luke of Syracuse. He started to carry out his service to the Church at Christ the Saviour Orthodox Church in London, Ontario, and was ordained to the priesthood by His Grace, Archbishop Gabriel of Montreal and Canada in October. Father David is originally from Clydebank, Scotland and is married with seven children.
