Renewal Church

Renewal Church A church where the love of God and others is evident, authenticity and community is pursued, wonder and mystery are celebrated and the gospel is proclaimed.

Renewal church is a multi-ethnic church that strives to be an incarnational presence in a postmodern culture. We are a community that believes in the one true God, the beauty and brokenness of humanity and joining God in the renewal of all things. We are a church committed to the gospel. It informs who we are and shapes how we live. Each Sunday we gather to worship and confess, to engage in Script

ure and prayer, to celebrate the eucharist and be sent out into the city with a blessing. These practices enable us to celebrate God and be reminded of who He is and His work in and through us.

And we’re off to our annual Fall Retreat this weekend!

A special note that we will be holding a Baptism Service on Sunday (Sept 25) at 10am at Galilee Bible Camp. All are welcome to join in-person. This means we will not be having our usual worship service at 3pm.

While not all may be able to be with us at camp this weekend, we invite you to access the prayers and reflections we’ve prepared for retreat:

Friends, we know many of us have been anticipating our fall retreat for some time as we’ve been resuming various in-person habits and rhythms of our community.

Due to unforeseen circumstances at Camp Galilee, we regret to inform you that our retreat is cancelled for this weekend (Sept. 9 to 11).

We are currently working with Camp Galilee to potentially reschedule our retreat to a later date, if possible, or consider other ways to carve out time together to rest as a community.

If there are any questions, please contact our retreat team: [email protected]

For this Sunday, Sept. 11, we will be holding our Sunday Worship Service in-person and online as usual at Cedarview Alliance Chuch (2784 Cedarview Rd) and www.renewalchurch.ca/online at 3pm.

We want to share one of our prayers for this weekend, from St. Benedict:

“Father,
Give us wisdom to perceive you,
Intellect to understand you.
Diligence to seek you
Patience to wait for you,
Eyes to behold you,
A heart to meditate on you
And a life to proclaim you,
Through the power of the Spirit
Of our Lord Jesus.”

Gabriel’s words to Mary “For with God all things are possible”. How does that translate into my story with believable faith? How do I live that out? Is it even possible? We will look at some different examples in the Bible about how to walk by faith. We will explore the complexities of what this faith looks like. We will pose the question, to be reflected upon, “Can I enter 2022 with a decision to live by faith in the Heart of the Father, who is also Almighty God and for whom all things are possible?”

Join us for worship this Sunday as Paul Racine preaches from Ephesians 3
Join us online at http://renewalchurch.ca/zoom this Sunday at 3pm. Our in-person services are postponed until further notice.

Merry Christmas!

For many of us the story of how we live does not include the reality that “all things are possible with God”. There have been too many broken and unexpected moments, prayers not answered the way we hoped for and pain too deep to believe relief could really enter into this moment with transformational healing. Often times it is simply the belief that God’s way for our story to unfold is not ours and the clash is inevitable with the results being our dreams being waylaid. Is this really true? What if we took God at His Word? What if we came to a brand new understanding of His Heart? What would it mean to live a story where God is at work powerfully?

Join us for worship this Christmas Sunday as Paul Racine preaches from Luke 1:26-38.

This fourth Sunday of Advent, we turn our attention to the story of Mary. A woman who says “I am the Lord’s servant. May everything you have said about me come true." That ‘yes’ to God is a yes to immense heartache and social judgment. However, it’s a yes to a God who extends his mercy to generations, a God who opposes the proud, a God who sees the hungry and the humble. It’s a yes to a God who says yes to dwelling with us. At Christmas, we celebrate a God who could not remain distant because God is love. Join us for worship this Fourth Sunday of Advent.

Vipers. The word draws associations with predators, venomous, threatening, and stealthy. John the Baptist faces a crowd that has gathered to be baptized and he opens by calling them “a brood of vipers.” He then communicates that God is like a consuming fire. Could it be that these shocking images are meant to inspire the emergence of a new mind and way of life? John acts as a sounding alarm that there is a new heart and abounding joy to be found in Jesus. Join us for worship this Third Sunday of Advent.

Our weaknesses can often hide in the shadows but cause harm and separation from others. The prophet Malachi uses the imagery of a patient refiner to describe God’s careful work in our lives. What if yielding to God’s painful process, rather than fighting against it; is the pathway to greater peace and wholeness? Advent is a season to prepare Him room so that the Spirit may form our character into the character of Christ. Join us for worship this Second Sunday of Advent.

Hope is what sustains life. The prophet Jeremiah is imprisoned and writing to an exiled and besieged people and offers them the promise of God. It was hope rooted in God’s character that sustained the Israelites when they faced collapse and bitter exile. It is that same hope that will not lead us to disappointment today. Join us for worship this First Sunday of Advent.

Join us online tomorrow (Sat Oct 30) at 10am for our Renewal Church Family Meeting.

This meeting provides an opportunity for those newer to our community to learn a little more about us and the heartbeat of Renewal Church.

It is also an opportunity for long-time members of the church family to be reminded of the why behind our rhythms, habits and life practices of our community.

We’ll also share an overview of the various opportunities to get involved, how we steward our financial resources, our leadership structure as well as sharing stories of how God is at work.

God has plans for a people. One of the most harmful mistakes we make reading the Bible is interpreting everything as an individualistic command. For the Christian, your life in God’s plan is interwoven with others in the family of God. On Sunday we begin a new series about our life together and God’s heart for unity.
Join us at Cedarview Alliance Church or at renewalchurch.ca/zoom today at 3pm.
