"Come to me, all who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."

Friday is the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. The readings set the feast in sharp relief: Moses reminds Israel that God's choice of her had nothing to do with her greatness. Israel was the last among all peoples and yet beloved and chosen by God. Saint John says about the Incarnation that God loved us, lowly sinners, before we loved Him, sending His Son as expiation for our sins. Devotion to the Sacred Heart is given us by the Church that we might love more closely our God who took on flesh.

As we enter the Third Sunday of Easter, we hear again the wondrous story of the Risen Christ drawing near to His disciples on the road, opening the Scriptures, and revealing Himself in the breaking of bread in the Upper Room.
