We ask Allah ď·» to protect Muslims and all communities around the world from hatred, threats, and violence, and to keep everyone safe.
We would also like to reassure our community that we are taking the recent matter seriously and are actively working with the Police Service. We will continue to cooperate with the authorities and take the necessary steps to help ensure the safety and security of our community.
Please remain vigilant, look out for one another, and report any suspicious or concerning activity to the appropriate authorities.
May Allah protect our community and grant everyone safety, peace, and security. Ameen.
Ottawa Police is aware of threatening and hateful emails sent to Muslim Association of Canada schools and centres in Ottawa on September 20 and October 6. We are working with the RCMP, which is leading the investigation.
We recognize how deeply concerning and unsettling these threats may be for members of Ottawa’s Muslim community.
OPS is in contact with Muslim community leaders and local institutions to hear their concerns, share information and provide support. We have also increased our police presence around affected Ottawa locations to provide reassurance and help support community safety.
Everyone has the right to learn, worship and gather without fear. Hate, threats and intimidation have no place in our community.
If you experience or witness a hate-motivated crime or incident, please report it to the Ottawa Police Hate and Bias Crime Unit at 613-236-1222, ext. 7300, or online at ottawapolice.ca/report. Call 9-1-1 if a crime is in progress or there is an immediate threat to safety.
