I love Palm Sunday. As a kid, churches ladies placed palm branches in my hands and said I had permission to dance around. It never made much sense. But now, it is deeply significant.

Join us as we wave palm branches and cry out “Hosanna!”- Lord save us.

The message this week will unpack the character of Judas in the Holy Week narrative. He faced similar disappointment to the crowd who screamed “Hosanna” one day and “Crucify Him!” a few days afterwards. Jesus didn’t do what the people expected. Sometimes we also find ourselves disappointed in our spiritual walk. How will we respond?

If you can, please bring a dish to share. After a long winter, it is appropriate that this month’s theme is comfort food! Sign up on email or our group chat to let us know what you are brining.

Before our potluck we will have a short family service. Join us as we wrap up our “Misuses of Power” series and reflect on Jesus as the Servant King.

Perhaps there is nowhere better to get to know someone than a meal. This winter we are exploring how Jesus came and moved into the neighbourhood. He revealed who God is to the world.

An important part of the story is how the cross demonstrated God’s love and character. At Bytown, we celebrate the Lord’s Supper each week. It is a very important part of our faith, as we come together to remember Jesus’ sacrifice.

Join us this Sunday as we discuss how the Eucharist roots us in our faith! See you at 4pm at 181 First Ave.

“Are any among you suffering? They should pray. Are any cheerful? They should sing songs of praise. Are any among you sick? They should call for the elders of the church and have them pray over them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord.” -James 5:13-14

Once a month, we join with other churches in our conference to pray for our city.

On Tuesday January 6, the churches in Ottawa will be participating in One Church One Day. We’ll try to cover our city in prayer for 24 hours straight. You can sign up at the link sent by email or WhatsApp to commit to pray for our church and our city for half an hour. Then, on Tuesday evening, Bytown will host a prayer meeting with the other MB churches in Ottawa. We will meet at the Connect Centre, 816 Bank St (connected to Fourth Baptist) at 7 pm.

In addition, on January 9th, we’ll join together for our 2026 One Church One Day launch event. This will be an encouraging evening as churches participating in this initiative gather to encourage one another and unify around prayer. You won’t want to miss it!
