Here’s what’s coming up for Homecoming👇

Next Sunday, Sept. 13 — Change4Change

We’re setting up a free thrift shop to bless our church family, then we’ll donate the remainder! Remember to bring gently used clothing: washed, folded, and in good condition.

Change4Change is a tradition that started in Youth Ministries with young people who wanted to find a real, practical way to take care of each other. Now you can join in!

Sunday, Sept. 27 — Church Potluck
Ever notice how the best conversations happen around a table? At the end of Homecoming, we’ll host a church-wide potluck! Because purpose isn’t something you find on your own, it’s something you discover with people. And there’s no better place to practice welcoming others than over a shared plate of food. Last Sunday, Pastor Petra brought us a word that quietly shifted some misunderstandings we may have about God and the Bible.

Here’s what stuck with us:

The Bible is not a manual of rules written by a distant God who wants you to get everything right before He’ll get close.

It’s a library. Written by shepherds and kings, fishermen and prisoners, over more than a thousand years. And running through every page, every story, every argument and lament and song is one thread.

God pursuing people. People running. God pursuing again.

Liars. Murderers. Prostitutes. Cowards. People who got it badly wrong and were loved anyway.

That’s the God revealed in the Bible. Not a God waiting for your doctrine to be perfect, but a God who keeps coming after you.

So this week, don’t open your Bible to master it. Open it to meet Him. 🤍

What kind of friend are you becoming?

Last Sunday, Dr. Scott Bullerwell brought us a word from 1 Samuel 20 that cut straight to the heart of what real friendship looks like, and what it costs.

Jonathan had every reason to walk away from David. He had the most to lose and the least to gain, yet he stayed.

Three things that stuck with us:

🕊️ Friends speak peace into our hearts when we feel overwhelmed. When David arrived breathless and afraid, Jonathan didn’t manage him or dismiss him. He spoke directly into the fear: “You are not going to die.” That kind of encouragement can change a life.

🛡️ Friends take our part when others are trying to take us apart. Jonathan stood between David and everything pursuing him, without hesitation and calculation. That’s loyalty, and it’s rarer than we think.

🌉 Friends build bridges of hope even when there is nothing in it for ourselves. Jonathan built toward David’s future knowing he wouldn’t be in it. That’s hope — the most costly and beautiful kind of friendship there is.

This week, be the kind of friend that Jonathan and Jesus model to us.

There’s purpose in your posture.

Last Sunday we opened Matthew 13, the one parable Jesus said unlocks all the others:

🌾 The Seed ➔ Your Purpose. God sows the same good seed into every one of us. His goodness, His peace, His blessing, His presence, His plans. The Sower is never the variable.

🪴 The Soil ➔ Your Posture. Everyone in the story hears. What changes is the ground.

🪏 The Spade ➔ Your Practice. Good soil is toiled. Open it, root it, clear it, and keep going, because the rocks come back.

Taken, torched, tangled. Three ways the seed gets lost, and all of them show up in one field.

🇨🇦 “Yeah, no, yeah”

Nobody can tell what we mean until they watch what we do 👀 Because what happens is what is real.

Sunday we sat in Matthew 21, where Jesus tells a story about two sons and one field. One said no and went anyway. One said yes and never showed up.

Three questions came out of it:

🙋 Who is my answer for? Rank, the room, or for real?
 🔓 Is my answer still open? (Spoiler: yes.)
 🏠 Who am I in the house? (Child, lame, blind, pr******te, corrupt tax collector, religious leader... or a mix of all of them.)

The Lord of the temple comes to the temple of your heart today.

Will you recognize Him and make Him the Centre of it all? 
Will you be real, and let your “no” soften so your feet can say yes? 
Can you have mercy for the pharisee in you? And for the tax collector, the child, the pr******te, the lame and the blind?
