Land Acknowledgement
We acknowledge the first people who walked this land before us. The land on which we gather is the ancestral territory of the Anishinabek (ah-nish-in-nah-bek) Nation, specifically the Chippewas of Rama First Nation. This territory is covered by the John Collins Purchase of 1795 and the Williams Treaties. We gratefully acknowledge the beauty and bounty of the land where we live

, and our gratitude for the earth, the provider of all that is required to sustain physical life. We, as the youngest visitors here upon the earth, must ensure that the earth is here for the future generations of all beings that live upon her. We recognize the enduring presence of Indigenous peoples connected to and on this land. We are grateful for the opportunity to gather on this territory and work in this community, and we commit ourselves to the work of reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.

On the left side in the back row, from the left are Miss Alice Stewart, Miss Hewitt, Mrs. Annie (Barker) Jupp, left side 2nd row, Unknown, John Owen, Mary (Goffat) Haw, left side front row, Mrs. Herbert Horner, Miss Kate Hatley?, Miss Maude Boyce, Miss Dora Dryer, Miss Hewitt, Miss Lassie Marston (Fitton), and Dick Greene.

Alice Elizabeth Stewart (1848-1920) was the daughter of the Rev. Alexander Stewart who retired as a minister in 1888 and died in 1896. “Mrs. Annie (Barker) Jupp” was probably Mary Hannah (Baker) Jupp (1859-1922) the wife of Robert Harry Jupp who owned a jewellery store at 73 Mississaga St. East. Mary Elisa (Goffatt) Haw (c1866-1950) was the daughter of Thomas Goffatt a fur trader and merchant in Orillia. “Dick” Greene was Richard Eustace Greene, the son of the Rev. Canon Richard W.E. Greene. In 1895, Dick drowned in Lake Couchiching while returning from a camping trip. Other names remain a mystery.
