Orillia Community Church

Orillia Community Church A Jesus-centered church in Orillia helping people connect, grow, and live out their faith. You don’t have to have it all together to belong here.

At OCC we believe church is for everyone – a place of enthusiasm and joy where the relevance of Jesus’ message for today is explored and celebrated. OCC isn’t perfect, but it’s real, honest, and a place where you can bravely ask questions about God and not feel uncomfortable. You don’t have to dress up. You don’t have to pretend your life is perfectly in order. You can find love no matter who you

are, where you’ve been, or what you’ve done. It’s a place where you can find hope and discover what having a relationship with Jesus is all about.

On Sunday we talked about how spiritual drift rarely happens dramatically. Most of the time it happens gradually through distraction, compromise, discouragement, or simply losing attentiveness to Christ over time.

In Ephesians 6, Paul reminds believers that we are not on neutral ground. The Christian life requires alertness, dependence on God, and a willingness to keep standing firm even when life feels heavy or distracting.

But the encouragement in this passage is that God has not left us on our own.

He gives us strength.
He gives us truth.
He gives us prayer.
He gives us one another.
And most importantly, He gives us Christ.

We are not fighting for victory. We are fighting from victory.

Midweek reminder:

Christlike love is often much less dramatic than we imagine.

Most of the time it looks like:
• patience
• paying attention
• serving quietly
• carrying burdens nobody else sees
• continuing to love when it’s inconvenient

The world already knows what selfish relationships look like.
But humility, tenderness, forgiveness, and sacrificial love reflect something true about Jesus.

“but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” — Romans 5:8

One of the big things we learned yesterday from Ephesians 5 is that this passage is not ultimately about power or control, it is about Jesus.

Before Paul ever speaks to husbands and wives, he says:
“submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.” (Ephesians 5:21)

The foundation underneath Christian relationships is humility, sacrifice, service, and love shaped by the gospel.

The real centre of marriage is not the husband or the wife.
The real centre is Christ Himself.

And as the gospel shapes people, it begins to reshape how we speak, forgive, serve, and love one another.

Happy Mother’s Day from Orillia Community Church 💐

Today we’re thankful for the many women who have loved, served, encouraged, prayed for, and cared for others in quiet and faithful ways over the years.

We also recognize that Mother’s Day can carry many different emotions. For some it is joyful, for others it can be difficult or complicated. Wherever this day finds you, we want you to know you are welcome here.

Join us this morning at 10:00 AM as we worship together and continue our series through Ephesians.

Midweek check-in.
It’s easy to get caught up in everything going on and slip back into autopilot.
But the invitation from Ephesians 5 isn’t to try harder, rather t’s to pay attention and come back.
To be aware of what’s shaping us.
To make space for God in the middle of ordinary days.
To be filled again with His Spirit.

You don’t need to reset everything.
Just take a moment today.
Slow down.
Refocus.
Be open.

Small shifts over time lead to real change.

This Sunday we looked at Ephesians 5:15–21 and were reminded of something simple, but easy to miss:
Life doesn’t usually fall apart all at once. It drifts.
Paul calls us to “look carefully how you walk,” to pay attention to how we’re living, how we’re using our time, and what is shaping us.
A wise life isn’t accidental. It’s intentional.
It’s shaped over time as we remain open to the Spirit’s work in us.
And as that begins to take hold, it shows up in worship, in gratitude, and in how we treat one another.
If you missed Sunday, or want to reflect on it again, take a few minutes this week to slow down and ask:
What is shaping my life right now?

Midweek reminder:
You are always being formed.

By what you take in.
By what you focus on.
By what you give space to.

So pause for a moment and ask:
Is this shaping me toward what is good and right and true?

“Walk as children of light…” (Ephesians 5:8)

You don’t have to be perfect but you don’t have to settle either.

What we learned yesterday:
We don’t usually drift all at once.

It’s subtle.
What we barely notice… we start to tolerate.
What we tolerate… we eventually normalize.

But Ephesians 5 reminds us:
“You are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.”

Following Jesus isn’t just about avoiding sin, it’s about becoming someone new.

This Sunday, we’re continuing in our series through Ephesians, looking at a passage that’s honest and a little uncomfortable but really important.

Ephesians 5:3–14 shows us what happens when the light of Christ shines into our lives. It doesn’t just point things out—it begins to change us.

We’ll be asking a simple question:
What does it actually look like to live as people who are in the light?

If you’ve ever felt the tension between what you know is right and what’s become normal around you, this one will connect.

Join us at 10AM. We’d love to see you.

By midweek, it’s easy to forget what we heard on Sunday.

But this is where it actually matters.
Not in big moments but in the small ones:
- how we respond when we’re frustrated
- the tone we use when we’re tired
- the words we choose without thinking

That’s where the gospel takes hold.
And the good news is you don’t have to get it perfect.
Just be aware.
Pause.

And ask:
What would it look like to respond differently… right here?
