Today, May 4, 2026, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith’s Annual Christian Summit opened in Red Deer. More than 200 faith leaders. from multiple faiths including United Church leaders, have raised concerns about this Summit, their statement says, in part: “The event's structure - its cost, its curated guest list, its exclusive framing - means that many voices will simply not be in the room. Smaller congregations, racialized communities, younger leaders, and those without means or connections will be absent. That is not a gathering shaped by the values of welcome and humility. It is a gathering shaped by access and privilege.” Please read the statement and share it.

Today, Premier Danielle Smith's Annual Christian Summit opened in Red Deer. Danielle Smith is the headline speaker. The proceeds go directly to the Christian Impact Network, whose founder wrote a classified plan - obtained by CBC News - to manufacture 10,000 Christian political candidates across Canada and align Canadian law with biblical principles.

This is not a harmless prayer breakfast. This is a sitting Premier lending the authority of her office to a movement with a documented agenda to replace secular democratic governance with one religion's interpretation of biblical law. When that happens, it doesn't just threaten religious minorities or people of other faiths. It threatens everyone's freedom - including the freedom of Christians who don't share that interpretation. Which, as it turns out, is a lot of us.

202 faith leaders have signed A Statement of Conviction from Alberta Faith Leaders in response. They come from United Church, Anglican, Lutheran, Presbyterian, Mennonite, Quaker, Community of Christ, Unitarian, Muslim, Roman Catholic, and Jewish communities.

From Calgary and Red Deer and Hanna and Hughenden and small towns across this province. From ten traditions. Signing because the breadth of faith in this country is not represented in that room today - and the public deserves to know that.
