WALTON’S HISTORY
Walton was founded in 1850 under the Methodist Episcopal Church in Canada. The original sanctuary was a white wooden church situated at the mouth of Bronte Creek on what was then called Triller Street. In 1912, the church was moved across the road and was used while the present brick building was erected, as a gift from the Walton Family in memory of their father. Our church has b
een at this location for over 150 years and many descendants of the original families are still in the area and attending our church. The United Church was formed in 1925 when the Methodists, Congregational Union and 70% of the Presbyterian Churches in Canada united. At that time, Walton Memorial became part of the United Church of Canada, which is the largest Protestant denomination in Canada. WHEN WE MEET
At 10:00 am, we hold our family service, with a regular Sunday School and Nursery for our children. Our service is filled with wonderful music, led by one of our three choirs and directed by Linda Fletcher. We strive to enhance the worship experience by using guest soloists, musicians, video, and drama. Our congregation of over 400 families is made up of all ages and there is something for everyone. We are wheelchair accessible, with a ramp and elevator at the rear entrance, off the parking lot. Between services, there is a chance for fellowship and socializing with a cup of tea, coffee, or cool drink in Bronte Hall. In the summer, we gather outside on the inviting front lawn and garden. HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED? If you are interested in using your gifts, please consider ushering or reading scripture verses in a worship service, running the elevator, serving communion, baking some goodies, driving others to and from church, working with the homeless, serving coffee & tea, visiting the sick, making some phone calls or even decorating the sanctuary with flowers. There are plenty of options! We also invite you to get involved with numerous events, activities, groups and committees. We welcome everyone to come and join us and we encourage all to participate in communion with us. Child Baptisms take place during the service after the parents have attended a baptismal preparation class. Our minister welcomes couples who are non-members to be married in our sanctuary. Our doors are open and you are welcome.
