What a wonderful afternoon! 🌿🌸

Cool temperatures, cloudy skies and the occasional shower couldn't dampen the spirits of our guests or volunteers. Thank you to everyone who helped make the Secret Gardens of Oakfield such a success — our hosts, greeters, gardeners, tea team and countless helping hands behind the scenes.

It was a delight to hear the hum of conversation and laughter filling St. Margaret's Church after the tour. Many guests visited our church for the first time and lingered over tea and treats — always a sign that people felt welcomed and at home.

Again and again we heard, "What a brilliant idea!" and many are already hoping we'll do it again.

Thank you for sharing your gardens, your talents and your hospitality. Together, we created something truly special. 💕🌿☕

🌿 Secret Gardens of Oakfield – We're On! 🌿
After consulting with our hosts this morning, the vote was an enthusiastic YES!
Yes, there have been showers this morning, but every gardener knows that a little rain only makes the gardens greener and more beautiful. The forecast calls for cool temperatures (13°C) and perhaps the odd passing shower this afternoon, so please dress warmly and bring an umbrella. 🌂
We look forward to welcoming you to an afternoon of hidden gardens, winding driveways, and lakeside beauty, followed by warm greetings, tea, lemonade, and sweet treats beneath the trees at St. Margaret's.
After all, we're gardeners — and gardeners don't melt!
Thank you to our generous hosts, volunteers, and guests. We can't wait to share these beautiful gardens with you.

Today's prayer shawl, lovingly knit by Cathy Nolan in a beautiful butterfly pattern, is accompanied by treasured books of faith from my family.

The Book of Common Prayer belonged to my grandmother, signed nearly 100 years ago, Mrs. Joe Alexander—a reminder of a different era and the quiet strength of the women who came before us.

Two belonged to my father, William "Billy" Alexander. One was given to him for Christmas 1939, when he was just nine years old. The Great Depression was over and war had begun. Inside, in a young boy's handwriting, are the words, "Billy Alexander Christmas 1939." Another bears a note from 1942 recording his second highest aggregate for the school year. I can only imagine how proud his family must have been.

Nestled among them is my a rosary given to me by a dear friend—simple reminders that faith is nurtured in many ways and passed from one generation to the next.

These books are worn and lovingly repaired, their pages held together by tape, time, and generations of loving hands. Like the butterfly pattern woven into this shawl, they remind me that through all the seasons of life, God continues to transform, renew, and surround us with His love.

Stitched with love and prayer, may this shawl bring comfort, peace, and the assurance that no one walks alone.

🌿 The Gardens Have Come to Life 🌿
As spring gives way to early summer, the gardens at St. Margaret's are waking up in all their glory. The flowering trees are putting on a spectacular show, the groundcovers are spilling over the pathways, and every corner seems to reveal something new.
Much of the beauty you see is thanks to one very special person — Janet Butcher, who at 79 years young has been the heart and hands behind these gardens for many years. Janet has dug, planted, weeded, divided, transplanted, watered, and lovingly cared for these gardens through countless seasons. Her vision, hard work, and dedication have created a welcoming and peaceful place for all who visit.
The gardens are beautiful now, but in another week or two the rhododendrons will be in full bloom, just in time to welcome guests to the Secret Gardens of Oakfield on June 13.
Thank you, Janet, for helping make St. Margaret's such a special place. Your fingerprints are on every blossom. 🌸
We can't wait to share these gardens—and several others throughout Oakfield—with our Secret Gardens guests.

“Every stitch a prayer, every shawl a hug. 💜

Gathered on Jean’s bench at St. Margaret’s Church before being blessed, these prayer shawls were lovingly created by Mary Tinney and Cathy Pryde for those in need of comfort, strength, and care.
