🌸 Prayer Shawl Ministry ~ Tea, Fellowship & Mission 🌸

Seventeen years ago, a few ladies gathered with yarn, needles, willing hands, and faithful hearts. Today, our circle continues to grow in friendship and purpose.

Yesterday, we celebrated another season together with a wonderful tea, a garden tour, a little fashion show, much laughter, and enough treats to satisfy every sweet tooth. Champagne flutes were filled with sparkling apple raspberry juice, peonies from the garden graced the table, and each lady took home a Blossom Time bread-and-butter plate as a remembrance of our years together.

But the true beauty of the day wasn't found on the table.

It was found in the love and care shared among friends.

One especially touching moment came when Carol completed the blue and white prayer shawl Jean had been working on before she passed away. Jean's loving hands began it, and Carol's loving hands finished it. A beautiful reminder that in this ministry, no one works alone, and love carries on.

We admired the beautiful shawls completed this season and reflected on the hundreds that have wrapped people in comfort and prayer over the year.

Though recovering in hospital after surgery, our dear Sophie joined us by video call. It was a joy to see her smile, share a few laughs, and let her know she remains surrounded by our love and prayers.

And just when we thought one member was missing, Wayne made a surprise appearance through the Ring camera to say hello to his "Prayer Shawl Ladies." There were smiles all around, and he was delighted to hear all the chatter he has missed these past weeks.

Thank you, dear friends, for seventeen years of prayers, shawls, tea, laughter, and faithful companionship.

Our mission remains simple:

To wrap others in warmth, comfort, hope, and God's love.

On Indigenous Peoples’ Day of Prayer, we remembered the generosity of the late Pat Pictou, elder of Sipekne’katik First Nation, who knitted thousands of mittens for children. We placed two pairs on our altar. The original Laker column telling her story is in the comments.

What a wonderful afternoon! 🌿🌸

Cool temperatures, cloudy skies and the occasional shower couldn't dampen the spirits of our guests or volunteers. Thank you to everyone who helped make the Secret Gardens of Oakfield such a success — our hosts, greeters, gardeners, tea team and countless helping hands behind the scenes.

It was a delight to hear the hum of conversation and laughter filling St. Margaret's Church after the tour. Many guests visited our church for the first time and lingered over tea and treats — always a sign that people felt welcomed and at home.

Again and again we heard, "What a brilliant idea!" and many are already hoping we'll do it again.

Thank you for sharing your gardens, your talents and your hospitality. Together, we created something truly special. 💕🌿☕

🌿 Secret Gardens of Oakfield – We're On! 🌿
After consulting with our hosts this morning, the vote was an enthusiastic YES!
Yes, there have been showers this morning, but every gardener knows that a little rain only makes the gardens greener and more beautiful. The forecast calls for cool temperatures (13°C) and perhaps the odd passing shower this afternoon, so please dress warmly and bring an umbrella. 🌂
We look forward to welcoming you to an afternoon of hidden gardens, winding driveways, and lakeside beauty, followed by warm greetings, tea, lemonade, and sweet treats beneath the trees at St. Margaret's.
After all, we're gardeners — and gardeners don't melt!
Thank you to our generous hosts, volunteers, and guests. We can't wait to share these beautiful gardens with you.
