This Friday is our next Messy Church event at OBUC!
Messy Church isn't necessarily "messy", it's just a different way of being church. It's for people of all ages- from children to seniors. It's for families to experience together, and for individuals to come and connect with others (although please do let us know in advance if there will be any unaccompanied minors, so we can plan for volunteers to accompany them).
We share a taco supper together, followed by a short interactive worship service.
Then we have a variety of activities to help us connect to the theme- crafts, colouring, and puzzles, active games, conversation, and a place set aside for quiet contemplation.
This month, with Mother's and Father's day coming up, we're celebrating being part of God's family, and some of our crafts will be things that can be given as gifts to moms/dads/other family members/special people in our lives we want to celebrate!
There's no cost to come to Messy Church (donations are always gratefully received for the life and work of our church, but totally optional!) No need to register in advance, or do anything other than show up as your own "messy" self this Friday, March 6 5-7:30pm at Oak Bank United Church!

Here is a prayer for the community of Tumbler Ridge, and all affected by the tragedy that took place there yesterday. πŸ™

Of course, we know God hears all prayers, even (or especially) the ones we have no words for.

A Prayer with the Community of Tumbler Ridge, BC

Providing God,
With people across the country and around the world,
we seek your care as we bear witness to the mass shooting in the community of Tumbler Ridge.
Provide solace for all affected.
Provide comfort to those overwhelmed by grief.
Provide compassionate strength to those who are providing support to the broken-hearted.

Providing God,
guide us, as we continue to the build the world you have imagined:
A world where a child's right to learn, laugh, love and live is cherished and protected in every village – everywhere;
A world without violence;
A world where the most vulnerable among us feel safe, cherished and protected, always.

For the sake of Christ who entrusted us to each other,
may it be so.
Amen.

β€”Rev. Dr. Alydia Smith

The first week back after the Christmas break can be rough! Instead of cooking this Friday night, why not join us for Messy Church instead?
We'll be sharing a taco supper together, followed by a short interactive worship service celebrating the Magi's Journey to visit Jesus, and the journey of discipleship we're on!
Then we'll have time to choose from a variety of activities connected to our "Journey" theme- crafts, colouring, and puzzles, a Lego challenge, cookie decorating, games,
a place for quiet contemplation, another place for conversation, and a special building project outside in our church yard using coloured ice blocks!
There's no cost to come to Messy Church (donations are always gratefully received but totally optional!) No need to register in advance, or do anything other than show up as your own "messy" self!

Tomorrow will be a busy day in the life of our church! First, our regular 10:45am worship service, which will be full of special music as we mark the last Sunday of Advent.
Next, we will have our "Celebrate the Season" afternoon concert of music performances and carols at 2pm (postponed from Friday due to the snow).
And in the evening, we will be quieting things down for the Blue Christmas service at Seasons Funeral Chapel, which is a good service for anyone who has suffered a loss, or who just finds this time of year difficult or stressful.
No matter how this season finds you, you are most welcome at any or all of these services!
