St John's Syriac Orthodox Church - Jacobite

St John's Syriac Orthodox Church - Jacobite Vicar: Rev Fr Dr. Baiju Varghese
Holy Qurbana Every Sunday @ 4PM Our Parish

St John's Syriac Orthodox Church is in its budding stage. St. Peter.

It is formed with a clear mission with a vision. The Church has been formed by a group of families who are followers of Syriac orthodox tradition in India (Malankara). John’s Syriac Orthodox Church of Ontario, a Jacobite Church, mainly consists of the members from South India (Kerala) who speak the Malayalam language. We belong to the very ancient church called ‘Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch (

SOCA)’, one of the members of the Oriental Orthodox Church family. The Syriac Orthodox Church is held to be the first church of Christianity established by the Apostle St. Our Archdiocese, The Malankara Archdiocese of the Syrian Orthodox Church in North America is a non-profit religious organization in the United States, incorporated in the State of New York. The Archdiocese is under the ecclesiastical jurisdiction of His Holiness the Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, Moran Mor Ignatius Aphrem II, the Supreme Head of the Universal Syrian Orthodox Church. This Archdiocese under the jurisdiction of Diocesan Bishop: H.G. Yeldo Mor Theethose, Arch Bishop Diocese of North America, comprises of the parishes all over the United States and Canada for the people predominantly from India who follow the Syriac tradition. The Church uses the Syriac language, a dialect of Aramaic spoken by Lord Jesus, as the Liturgical language along with English & Malayalam, a vernacular language of South India. Here we hope to present the orthodox faith, principles and organization of the church and its related entities. We gather here to celebrate holy Qurbana according to the ancient tradition of Syriac Orthodox Church. We are looking forward to expand our mission by transferring the rich orthodox tradition to our young generation through Sunday-schools and Youth associations.

Expecting all your kind support towards spreading the messages of our savior - Jesus Christ.

✨ Feast of St. Geevarghese Mar Gregorios (Parumala Thirumeni) ✨

St. John’s Syriac Orthodox Church, North York, Ontario

Today, our parish family at St. John’s Syriac Orthodox Church joyfully celebrated the Feast of Parumala Thirumeni.

The service, led by our Vicar Rev. Fr. Jiju Joseph, included a special remembrance prayer honoring the blessed saint, followed by the traditional nercha.

We prayerfully remember Parumala Thirumeni, the saintly shepherd whose life of humility, fasting, and unceasing prayer continues to illuminate our faith. His unwavering trust in God and compassion for all remind us that holiness is found in simple obedience and steadfast love.

May the intercession of St. Geevarghese Mar Gregorios of Parumala strengthen our faith, comfort our hearts, and guide us to walk ever closer with Christ. 🙏✨

✨ St. John’s Syriac Orthodox Church, North York, Ontario, Annual Retreat 2025 ✨
October 31 – November 1 | Five Oaks Retreat Centre, Paris, Ontario

What a blessed and joy-filled weekend it was for our St. John’s family! The retreat began on Friday with evening prayers led by our Vicar, Rev. Fr. Jiju Joseph, followed by a memorable late Onam celebration. Everyone enjoyed a delicious Onam Sadhya lovingly prepared by our parish members — a true feast of fellowship and flavor!

The evening came alive with laughter and fun as Chintu and Neha led exciting games and an Onam-themed quiz, Sundariykkupottu, and other games that brought engagement from everyone.

Saturday began with peaceful morning prayers, a scrumptious breakfast, and time to explore the beautiful lakeside surroundings. The day was filled with campfire moments, games, antakshari, and joyful energy from our kids playing spike ball.

After a hearty lunch, the stage lit up with performances that showcased the incredible talents of our church family — vibrant dances from our children, a graceful ballroom performance and uplifting Nuhro and Choir practices as we prepare to welcome our Catholicos in November. The evening concluded perfectly with a mouthwatering grill session.

It was truly a retreat to remember — a weekend of prayer, laughter, music, and togetherness that deepened our bonds and strengthened our fellowship as one St. John’s family. ❤️🙏
