St. Davids-Queenston United Church

St. Davids-Queenston United Church We are the St. Davids-Queenston United Church, where God’s love for us all is celebrated. In the vestibule of the current church is a pew from the Warner Church.

Christian Warner was one of the first converts to Methodism and held meetings in his home starting in 1788. In 1801, the first Methodist Church in Upper Canada was known as "Warner's Meeting House" and meetings continued to be held there until 1870. The Alter, Bible and Collection Baskets are existing relics of this congregation. A church was built on land that was donated by Major David Secord in

1813. The first church was burned with the Village of St. Davids (during the War of 1812), but was started again in 1815. The church served until February 18, 1945 when the last service was held. The pews are being used in the present church built from 1946-1955, and the Memorial window in the Chancel wall is made from glass taken from the old church. Services were held in the basement of the new church from April 17, 1949 until March 27, 1955 when the new church was dedicated. In 1963 a Christian Education building was started and dedicated on October 31, 1965. In Queenston, meetings were held in various homes and old school until 1862 when a church was built. It was dedicated on January 25, 1863. From 1863 to 1927 it was part of the Queenston-St. Davids-Stamford circuit. In 1925 the United Church of Canada was formed and in 1927 Stamford withdrew and that left a two-point charge that existed until 1996. In the 1940's and 1950's the village grew and Sunday School grew with it. The church had no Sunday School rooms, no washrooms and no parking. The decision was made to move the church and a piece of property was bought, a basement dug and the church was moved, then an addition was added. The rededication was set for October 16, 1960, the 174th anniversary of the founding of the congregation. Due to a declining number of congregation members, a very moving and historical service was held on October 6, 1996 to celebrate the amalgamation of the St. Davids and Queenston United Church congregations. The Queenston church was given to the Niagara Parks Commission as a historical site. The church building was moved to the Laura Secord property in Queenston in 2011.

An interim covenant of interest.

The United Church of Canada General Council Executive and the United Methodist Council of Bishops, at separate meetings this spring, each approved an interim covenant that mutually affirms both denominations’ clergy and opens the door to greater cooperation across national borders.

The covenant also declares the leaders’ intention to propose a formal relationship between the two denominations to their top policymaking bodies — the United Methodist General Conference and the Canadian church’s General Council. Both assemblies are next set to meet in 2028.

The denominations’ leaders see the interim agreement as a crucial step toward full communion between the two denominations.

“I think that it’s a critical step forward in building the relationship with The UMC,” said United Church General Secretary Michael Blair. “But also, I think one of the payoffs will be how we support migrant Methodist communities here in Canada.”

Praying for the people of the Philippines. 🙏🏻

Please pray for the people of the Philippines, where a magnitude-7.8 earthquake struck off the coast of Mindanao island in the southern part of the country at 7:37 a.m. local time on Monday, causing widespread damage and destruction. The number of those killed or injured is still being determined.

God of justice and compassion,
You call us to be peacemakers in a world that longs for healing.
Be present with those who grieve,
those who live in fear,
and those who continue to struggle for dignity and justice.
Strengthen all who seek truth.
Guide leaders in the ways of accountability and peace.
Move our hearts beyond silence into faithful action.
Help us to work together—across communities and faiths—
in solidarity and hope,
trusting in your vision of a just and peaceful world.
Amen.

Union Sunday! Commemorating the 101st anniversary of the United church of Canada!

As we prepare to celebrate the 101st anniversary of The United Church of Canada on June 10, we give thanks for the faith, courage, and vision that have sustained our church through more than a century of ministry.

Reflecting on our past with gratitude, we also look forward with hope, trusting that God continues to lead us into new possibilities.

In a world that is both beautiful and broken, we are called to discern the new things God is doing among us and to embrace a future marked by renewal, compassion, and faithful service to our neighbours and communities.

Union Sunday Prayer

God in whom we live and move and have our being:
From sea to sea to sea we gather in prayer;
from generation to generation we sing;
on this anniversary we give thanks
for your care
guidance
and correction.
In this heritage of trust
we pray for this United Church
and for faithful living on this land,
Our Source of Life, Living Word, and Bonding Love:
Amen.

A Pride Month Prayer.

God of the Rainbow,
More than those who watch for morning,
Our souls wait, for the day when each of us,
of every gender expression, gender identity, and sexual orientation
knows that we are meant to be:
loved, cherished, and protected; and
that we are to be:
proud of our identities; and
celebrated.

For we are your imperfectly perfect children,
called to reflect Christ’s radiant light,
embody Christ’s radical love; and
build your beloved community,
especially when storms of fear and hatred rage around us.

And so, more than those who watch for morning,
we, in our great diversity,
wait for your promised rainbow of peace,
as we work towards a world where every gender expression, gender identity, and sexual orientation is affirmed as beloved; and,
every soul’s spirit is able to sparkle, shine and sing your dream with pride.

May it be so,

Amen.

Moose Hide Campaign Day at Queens Park.

At this Pentecost moment.
05/24/2026

At this Pentecost moment.

We have entered into a new way of being church.
At this Pentecost moment,
we are not alone:

God will reveal Creation’s dream,
as we give thanks for whose we are.

Christ will claim us as his own,
as we declare who we are.

God’s Spirit will pour out on us,
as we anticipate who we will become.

At this Pentecost:
We take courage in the assurance of whose we are;
we affirm our call to be Christ’s disciples; and
we trust the Spirit to guide us through the challenging space between who we are and who we will be.

Surely, we are not alone.
Thanks be to God.
